Trupe Daddy is the GOAT
I had him for Humanities in 2015, I got a C one semester and a B the next. One of the toughest classes at Torrey with one of the most rigorous professors. However he will prepare you if you do what he says, and tries to get you to think in the right way - rather than memorize random factoids. Even though I struggled in the course, I received a 4 on the AP exam.
So glad I took this class. Not going to lie, I was pretty scared when I saw his name on my schedule, but it ended up being for the best. He really knows his stuff and it's ALWAYS an interesting class. Sometimes he enters the class and screams as a way of greeting. Gave us an article on babyfarming. Maybe I'm biased because I scored pretty well on the tests, but I think he's an awesome teacher. Some kids can't handle the vigor of the class & that's a personal problem. Lots of homework though.
Mr. Trupe is an all around cool guy. I had him for AP World and while the class is challenging, the content is fascinating and it'll do you good to pay attention to his lectures and the insanely long articles he assigns for homework. He is not the most efficient at lecturing and will often not cover materials that will be tested. He does an extremely well job of teaching essay writing and structure. You may not learn history, but you will definitely learn how to write a good essay.
Mr. Trupe is like his vuvuzela, very loud and interesting, he screams a lot but has very interesting stories and history, he doesn't teach from the book, but the man sure does know his history, he isn't a brain dead teacher who just reads the material and quizzes you, he actually knows it, if you have him be prepared for a lot of screaming, vuvuzelaing, screaming, inside jokes, and screaming. This teacher knows what he's doing. Very helpful in terms of preparing for tests. Great teacher
Undeniably one of the best, funniest, and nicest teachers I have ever had. Yes his tests are extremely hard and yes he isn't an easy grader etc. However the man knows what he's talking about, he's a great teacher, his AP World class impacted my perspective and life more than any other class I've ever had before. Try and get him because if you're nice and put yourself out there to him, you could make a good friend not just for high school, but for life.
Insane, but he knows what he's talking about. Expect lots of homework, essay writing, lectures, & manic shouting. There's a lot of reading from online sources and taking notes, but it helps with the tests and understanding the material. He cares deeply about all of his students and will help you if you take the time to ask. Several years ago he asked for new textbooks. He didn't get them so now he teaches without it. Everything you need is on blackboard.
Also, he has a vuvuzela & WILL use it
I have him for apwh and he's awesome. best history teacher ever.
For some reason he thinks students have the time to sit there doing homework that will never help us on anything, or study for tests that are harder than the actual ap test. Just this week, we didn't know about an upcoming test until he told us the day before. He's never willing to help students outside of class or change anything about his ineffective curriculum. Plus, he doesn't even give out a textbook, so I had to pay $30 to buy one myself. He's uninformed, irresponsible, and disrespectful.
nice person but not the best teacher. Lectures the entire two hour class period. Tests contain material that was never covered.
the tests are not that easy, and he doesn't even use a textbook at all! what even are these ratings? these people are not posting objectively on the class difficulty, they are giving him good ratings because they like him personally and think he's funny! please be honest to incoming students so they can make an informed decision. this course actually requires a fair amount of studying outside of class.
The best teacher I've ever had. Luh ya Lard.
There isn't even a way to describe my experience with Lars Trupe. Don't you dare drop his class because he is possibly the best person you will ever meet in your lifetime. Stick with it and it might just be the best decision you've ever made I know it was for me at least.
Truly, his only proviso for teaching is, "To where can I be of the greatest service?" He's an excellent teacher, coach, mentor, and friend. Over-qualified for what he currently does. My cousin had him and would applaud my critique. A real Renaissance man.
you may be tempted to drop out, but stick through with it, and you'll love it. his tests are challenging, his lectures maybe dry, but he is a teacher worth having. he is a teacher you can meet in public and get to know as a person. uber knowledgeable about everything. he's a doctor, he has been knighted, and he is worth your time. don't believe me? take drake then and reap your eternal reward in tartarus.
I don't know what to say
He rides a vespa to school...
Trupe is the type of teacher you need to get to know before judging him. I hated him and his class before I got to know him and by the end of the year, even though his tests and his class was super hard, it was all worth it and i love him so much
He says not to use the textbook, but its the most helpful tool, because the articles for hw have nothing. As for the tests you pretty much have to know the powerpoints and outlines word for word. Chill guy though, if that means anything.
Most of the year went as follows: Read a bunch of scholarly articles, take notes on slide shows and videos. He did not prepare student well for tests, so most got C/D. It was like a college class, you could learn if you wanted to or slack off.
Hasn't taught anything, expects us to learn the history of EVERYWHERE-- without even handing out a textbook, instead he gives us scholarly articles that are pages long and lack helpful information. Overall, horrible teacher.
Honest. This is a No-BS class. Do your work. It's hard, but he will prepare the hell out of you. His personality is funny and quirky and I didn't really dread it for as hard as it was. His personality can come off as a bit abrasive or obnoxious, though. Especially if you aren't in the mood and he cracks a joke at you, it can be hurtful or annoying for someone to criticize you the way he does, but it isn't his fault. He sometimes pushed this one guy in my class way too far. Good teacher, though.
People here seem to dislike Mr. Trupe, mostly because they didn't pay attention and don't like his humour. If you paid the least bit of attention to any of his instruction and done any amount of studying, you'll be fine. People who say he's super mean and hard are just used to cruising through middle school and freshman year. If you actually learn how to read and study like it's an AP class and you listen to his instruction, you'll do well on exams and have an awesome time. -Steven D. 2012-2013
Trupe is the ideal teacher. Honest, patient, knowledgeable, and more than willing to talk about real issues with his students.
The guy NEVER grades anything. How are we supposed to know how we're doing or how to improve??? Allwe do is read and take tests and write stuff but we never find out what our grades are. He must be the laziest teacher ever. On top of that HIS assignments always seem to have mistakes and typos...what a joke! If kids do well on the AP exam I think its because they study hard NOT because of him at all.
You will love Trupe. The work load is a lot but it's an AP class. Sometimes the jokes get old but he's a funny guy and knows what he is talking about.
I think he'd be ok if he weren't such a Eurofile. He really wants people to know he was born in Germany and speaks German and French, so he mentions it repeatedly every class. He always goes off on unrelated tangents that center on how cultured and European he is... it gets really annoying. BTW he really isn't that funny (lots of immature ****/bathroom humor). So if you like pretentious, self-absorbed teachers who waste half the class, I think Mr. Trupe is the teacher for you!
Amazing teacher, wont let you down. his tests are hard but he is strict, to the point, and will definitely ensure you pass the AP test and dominate the next history class you take. highly recommended, not that you can choose your teachers.
I do not wear my seatbelt when driving to school because I dread making it to this terrible class alive.
the best man, the best. THE BEST. He is so great and know what he's talking about. Some people think he's too hard and don't take his class but I took it on as a challenge and it payed off because he's a great teacher, and person in general.
Such a fun class!!!!!! We tend to go off topic quite a bit, but all of his stories have some sort of relevance to the matirial you are learning. His answers to questions are sometimes confusing, but he is so funny!!!! His tests are the equivalent to death so be aware its a hard effing class but the teacher is so fun
one of the best teachers at torrey. its a hard class but in the end you realize how much it all helped if you really tried
Trupe tells it like it is he is very knowledgeable and seeks to spark a certain awereness or curiosity in his students - He was my favorite teacher although he gave me a tough time, which I appreciated much later :)
really funny nice guy! gives you a challenge, but its an ap class. thats what you signed up for.
He's a very funny teacher and really nice if he likes you, but he is so hard it's unfair. His tests are completely RANDOM
love him or hate him, you have to appreciate the sheer outrageousness of Trupe
Even though his class is really hard, he's an amazing teacher! because of his class i got really high scores on the sat 2's and the ap exam. he's also really funny and his class is never boring. and he has really awesome stickers up on his wall
Having Trupe for World History has its ups and downs. You get a pretty funny teacher, but he also plays favourites and hardly helps when studying, whether it was for a quiz or the AP test itself.
Trupe is a really great guy who takes care of his students, but if you get on his bad side, you're pretty much dead...and have no chance in getting an A. He gives a ton of homework...but always read the chapters he assignes even if you have to stay up until 1 in the morning...don't just skim them. read every word...it makes it sooo much easier to get an A. I wouldn't say he is a bad teacher, he's just not that good. His lectures are so boring and he talks about a lot of random stuff...
I'd love to see him and Caughey go head to head in a debate
he is NOT funny, even though he's under the impression that he is hysterical. In the beginning you may laugh at some of his jokes, but you'll realize soon that it's really not that funny. When he starts lecturing it is SOO boring and you just wanna fall asleep. Goes into random tangents A LOT, and makes fun of people a lot, which most of the times is just rude.
trupe is not a good teacher. he appears to be "cool" and "funny" and "awesome" but he really isnt. he doesnt teach and even though his jokes seem funny at first, you will soon realize (hopefully) that they are actually really rude and inappropriate. dont be fooled. in addition to that, he does NOT prepare you for the ap test at all.
I love Mr. Trupe and think he's a nice person, but he doesn't teach. His classes are boring and he teaches using powerpoints that you could just as easily read off of edline. For half the class he will talk about nothing relating to history, and the other half is lectures that are hard to follow. If you ask a question, know that he will take at between 5-30 minutes to answer it. He's funny and entertaining but sometimes crude. His tests are usually a collection of questions from previous tests.
An awesome teacher. Some classes are wasted on random tangents, but overall an enlightening experience. Getting an A in his class really means you know history.
He's really smart, and feels like a friend to all his students. But, often in class, he goes off track and once he starts lecturing, he uses monotone and becomes kinda boring. Also he takes 30 minutes to answer one simple question, if you know whati mean. Great person, funny, but teaching-wise, i'd say he's not the best teacher i've seen. Oh yeah, his tests are really really hard and you have to do all the homework to try to get an A on the tests.
mr. trupe is the most amazing teacher ive ever had. he is soo funny and such a good teacher. its up to u to pay attention and do the hw oh and make sure u become one of his favorites. he really prepares you for the ap test. his test really teach you to think in a different way and really analyze the question which is a great skill for many other classes. overall most amazing class ive ever taken
Trupe is one of the greatest people I have ever met. He is extremely cultured, and knows so much about EVERYTHING. He is so humorous, intelligent, and very clever. He is an easy grader in spite of his hard tests (old AP tests). It is quite an enjoyable class.
make sure you stay on his good side and you'll LOVE his class.
Its a lot of work, so if you're not prepared to work really hard, definitely wouldn't recommend it. First class I've ever really had to study for, but if you work, you'll do well. Doesn't really teach all that much in class, most of the learning, etc. is through the huge hw load. Cool guy.
yeah wen i first heard about trupe everyones like OHHH HESSS SOOOO COOOL!! YOU WANT HIMMM!! but like really his tests are actually rrlyy hard and he doesnt teach u in class so b sure to read the stuff
so funny. you learn a lot, prepares you better for ap than you would think.
he gives way too much homework. it makes it hard to keep up and have any free time.
trupe is by far one of the greatest teachers i have ever had. and he knows what hes teaching unlike a lot of other teachers. basically, he rocks and you are SO lucky if you get him, i his class.
trupe is bipolar. he used to tease all the time and talk about me behind my back if you do the homework there is no way you can fail of ap test. he doesn't check the hw and test are hard
he know so much about history but he just drones on in class about random stuff. it makes class fun i guess but when you take the ap test in may your screwed. ohh and hes tests are hard. hes too lazy to read all of your assignments so just puts a hundred on the top
Trupe tells the most hillarious stories, writes AMAZING college reccomendations and he cares endlessly about his students. He may be a little provocative and feisty at times but that just makes him Trupey... He knows everything about history and is an amazing resource for life in general... Anyone who says otherwise is quite blatantly hug deprived and needs to recognize Trupey for the over-sized teddy bear that he is. Oh and "psycho" has a "p" in it and it was me that bought the glorious arm.
He's a good teacher and he really knows what he's teaching. But it's really hard to know if what he's telling you is real or not. I always get confused. When you get his jokes, they're kinda funny, but when you don't, everyone thinks you're stupid =( He really makes you like history though and I think that's the most important thing you can get out of his class. Don't really take him seriously or you'll get hurt (like emotionally and physically =( ).
Awesome and challenging teacher. Critical but in a great way. You learn a lot and ARE prepared for the AP test. I got a 4 :D
Trupe is a pretty cool guy.. he's extremely funny, and theres not a dull moment when he's going off on a tangent.. however, when he gets started on talking about the things we're SUPPOSED to be learning.. it gets extremely boring. he's fun.. but his grading is a little wack.. the smart people get As.. the dumb people get Bs... tests dont really matter.. but DO YOUR HOMEWORK.. thats all
one of the best teachers ive ever had. really personal with his students, and very cool. if you just pay attention you'll learn A LOT. and dont let others freak you out about the AP test; he prepares you fine.
Trupe is insane in an acceptable and almost okay way. Best art history teacher of all time.
Great Teacher! Favorite class this year! Go MAN U!!!
Perhaps on the the best teachers I've ever had. Hard class, but worth every second of the Trupedaddy love.
Hard class. Don't take it if you aren't prepared to work. Really interesting and fun though. I loved this class.
He is really funny and makes the class entertaining, but he'll spend the whole class lecturing on one topic. And he plays major favorites. Keep on his good side
I've never had a better teacher, knows his stuff better than anyone. Prepares you so well for Ap test if you study. Don't be intimidated, it's all an act!
TRUPE is awesome!! he has a great sense of humor. His tests are very hard, the grades are mostly C's and D's, but you can still get an A with bad test grades.
Trupe knows history EXTREMELY well. Expect to get C's and D's on tests even with studying. You can still get a solid A. Participate in his discussions.
he's pretty cool in the beginning of the year but after awhile his jokes get kinda lame...but at least he makes the class interesting.
Coolest teacher ever. Funny guy. Makes history interesting, and students learn a lot. I liked the comic book project.
Likes you if you're popular. Puts on a good show but is only as deep as the shallowest students.
very entertaining class, but doesnt allways prepare you for the test. memorize, memorize, memorize!!
At firs the scares you but it's all part of the act.
He's the best teacher I've ever had, hands down. He makes you think...you come out of his class very well prepared for every other class you'll ever take.
Hard teacher and if you fail all of his quizzes and tests and do decent on the projects it is no problem getting a B.
Trupe is the man! He's a hard teacher, yo may fail the tests, but you'll still get a passing grade. He rocks at Volleyball!
