Me. Bird is hands down the best teacher I have ever had. She cares about each one of her students and is a great person. It's not a dread to attend one of her classes as she is makes each class period fun and interesting. I really do think she is the best teacher at Westlake and you should count yourself lucky if you get to be in one of her classes
Seems really good the first week and then gets cranky the rest of the year. Forces kids to do presentations in front of the class for a grade (seriously messed up). Expects us to do homework over the breaks, and acts like the entire break was just for us to do English homework. I'm not denying any of the other reviews, because freshman year she was great, but she has gotten a lot worse.
I really like Ms.Bird. She only wants the best for her students and is very realistic, she understands that we have other classes so she never overloads us with work. We have lots of discussions in class and I like that because it makes the whole class more personal and relatable.
I have had Ms. Bird for all of my junior year, and I have to say she has been one of my top five teachers I've had in WHS.
The review below is so far off base, it's comical. I had Ms. Bird as a freshman and again as a junior. She is probably the most incredible teacher I have ever had. She teaches students how to write proficiently in all areas and give such constructive feedback; the only way you leave her class not a better writer is if you are lazy and don't do the work. Ms. Bird cares a lot about her students and does all she can to help us understand the material. She is an awesome teacher.
Ms. Bird is an undeniably likable person. The constant coffee aroma in her classroom and her calm yet kind composure is charming. However, she is a horrible teacher. It took me all year to realize just how little I learned in her classroom. We wrote the most essays out of all the other classes, but learned the least on how to write essays. She expects students to miraculously improve at writing without putting in any effort into teaching us. Ultimately, Bird = good person; bad teacher.
Ms. Bird is such a phenomenal English teacher, and in teaching style and curriculum content/focus the best one you can have for English 9 Honors. If you are not already considerably solid and established in your writing style, you will struggle with the constant writings. However if you are reasonably confident in your writing you will find that she offers very valuable critique for small nuances that make a great paper. Beware pop reading quizzes! I will miss having her!
Bird is awesome. she is super dedicated and really cares about you and will work with you. Great teacher
one of the best teachers i have ever had at westlake. she really wants to get to know each student and you can honestly talk to her about anything and she will be there for you.
Ms.Bird was honestly the BEST english teacher I have ever had. She understands you, really explains and clarifys everything, and reads all the books out loud so it is easier for us to understand.
One of the only teachers that can relate to high school students. Holds her students to high standards but is fair too.
Be prepared to work and not sit idly but she's an amazing, kind-hearted lady, you'll love her. Don't give attitude and be nice. She's really amazing though.
mrs. bird is the best teacher i had at westlake...she wasn't the easiest but she was fun and made me want to learn and do my best
Ms. Bird is awesome. I've been so lucky to have her as a teacher for two years.
I had Ms. Bird when she was still Mrs. Larson. She's a very fun and helpful teacher.
I only had Ms. Bird for a little while, but I've loved her ever since. She's been there for me.
