Had her for AS Eng2-- came into her class expecting a teaching quality reflecting her bad reviews. At first, she came off as rather eccentric, but as the year passed on, the slight eccentricities made the oftentimes boring class delightful. Looking at these reviews, Burke is vastly underrated. If you read the book (she gave a few pop quizzes 1st semester) and put effort into the essays, getting an A is as easy as pie (do the hw-- they are easy pts), and you'll definitely get something out of it.
I had Ms. Burke for her first year teaching AS English II. Other people in my class really didn't enjoy her class, but I actually learned a lot that will definitely help me in the future. Her class was really difficult at times, but it was worth it (sometimes). You really have to stay ontop of your work/reading though, that was kind of tough. Ms. Burke as a person is super quirky (in a good way) and cool, so try and get to know her a little. Would recommend.
She is probably one of my least favorite teachers. Whenever people ask her questions, she completely ignores them and says that she's too busy to answer. She also has a very short temper and doesn't seem to care about the students. And lastly, she assigns way too much work and gives us way too little time to do it. She taught us good grammar though, so there's that.
Awful teacher, I had her for one semester for AP english language, and despite my A in the class, transfered out because I couldnt stand the thought of having her for an entire year. Unfortunately for me she was the ONLY AP literature teacher so I ended up being stuck with her for a year. Senior year, she decided that I was a B student. So every single essay I turned in, no matter how hard I worked on it, I got an 84% on it. RUN AWAY FROM HER
she teaches a difficult class, but i also think that ms. burke gets a bad rap. yes, her class isn't exactly easy, or clear, but such is life. i feel like this just helps to prepare us for the world of jobs, where you won't always like your boss, but you still need to be respectful, or you'll lose your job. some people on here could certainly learn a lesson from that.
I really hate her. She's entirely condescending towards her students, very spiteful, and will confuse alot. Ex) "You didn't focus enough on this part," but 5 minutes later when another student does the exact same project with the exact same amount of details, "You focused too much on this part."
her short fuse, inability to explain anything and flappy arms have made me an unhappy boy
NOTHING against Ms burke personally. Just, when it comes to the classroom, I STRONGLY dislike ap english.
Even before having her she already had a bad reputation. Very boring. She assigns reading for homework and you just go to class and she basically reads everything outloud again. For essays, if you don't a certain point of it you will not get an A on the essay. She actually does help on the AP and for grammar though.
You'll hopefully learn something from her- how to deal with the rotten cards you're given. And actually, that does help on the AP. Don't take this class for a fun time.
Assigns boring and pointless things with vague directions.
A large amount of her students cheat their way through her class and tests and she for the most part knows this but doesn't care. In fact, that's the problem: she doesn't care about her students.
Very mean, discouraging, and unaccepting of students' opinions if they are not the exact same as her own.
The only teacher I've ever had that has actually discouraged me.
Very, very cool teacher. Funny, inspiring, motivating... She acted like one of the students. One of my fav teachers...Too bad she's not teaching anymore.
interesting course material but hard .. DROPPED ME OUT OF HONORS
