Ms Shuman although sometimes picking favorites overall is a good teacher. If you say are polite, participate and put in alittle effort she will give you a good grade.
Anybody who complains about Ms. Shuman just means that she didn't like them. Her teaching may not win any awards but she tries her best to provide a good experience. She is probably one of my favorite teachers at stuy. Just participate and you won't be upset about your grade. If you show you're trying and are motivated she will look out for your grade.
Does random things out of nowhere. Only thing u can actually predict about her is that she'll eat wholefoods everyday. Starts Many things but stops halfway for some reason. We were supposed to write an essay about the French Revolution, we picked our topics, filled out a chart, she collected them, and never said anything again. She gives the answers out during her tests and spends 10 minutes making simple decisions. Doesn't teach, can pass her tests but not regents.
Your grades on your tests DONT matter, she pulls the grades out of nowhere. Everything is solely based on how much she likes you. Basically, if you want to pass the regents or finals, bury yourself into the textbook and try to sound semi-intelligent in class.
Ms.Shuman tends to get a bad rap. I don't think this is fair because if you actually do what she tells you to do you do learn. My experience with her has been nothing but good. Just make sure she likes you and don't OVER argue with her on things like test questions. But arguing a little never hurt because chances are if she likes you she'll give you the points for the question. Again how much she likes you counts ALOT so make sure to participate and kiss up.
Ms. Shuman is an incredibly sweet woman. But as everyone said, she really CANNOT teach. I've had her for one semester my freshman year, and I learned nothing. She does make up the notes as the class goes on and it's probably true that she can't pass her own tests. We grade our tests in class even though it takes her 3 weeks just to get them back to us. Again, she's a great lady, but maybe teaching isn't something she should be doing, especially not at a school like Stuyvesant.
She's a reasonable lady, but a horrendous teacher. If you don't really care about history and don't mind getting a random grade (consistent 88's), doesn't hurt to stay. She almost never checks homework. But if you really want to learn, switch. Also her tests are bad, for you AND her (she doesn't make them herself, you'll spend two periods going over them and changing the key).
worst teacher in stuy. if you get her, transfer, transfer, transfer. doesn't know anything and i bet she can't even get above an 80% on her own tests
GG, had shuman 2 years in a row
lol waxman is betur
Fails to teach. Her students learn from reading the textbook.
Ms.Shuman's a really nice teacher, but i agree with her being disorganized. It's like she's making the notes up as we go along. Her tests are fairly easy, just study from the textbook and you'll be fine.
She is an awful teacher. Her "notes" are created in class based on student answers. She doesn't teach AT ALL. Expect to be behind. Late to class 80% of the time. Tests are difficult considering she doesn't teach. Very disorganized, doesn't know names
She lacks knowledge in everything. Wastes class time and makes the course miserable.
i swear, most disorganized teacher i have ever seen. Rushed 6 out of 11 chapters in one week before the finals. Has no idea how to keep good notes, and is just a big mess
Without a doubt the worst teacher I have ever had.
Ms. Shuman is a very sweet lady. However, not so sweet as a teacher. She has absolutely no idea what she's talking about, which leads to her exams taking very specific details from the textbook. Her notes don't even qualify as notes, they are simply outlines messy ones in fact that contain various vocabulary words. By the way, do not give us Pop test if you have no idea how to teach
Worst teacher I have ever had. Always disorganized, and has absolutely no idea how to teach. She should not be a teacher.
Way too disorganized. Half the students do not get the worksheets she passes out.
She's not as bad teacher as some might say. Just work hard and study the book. Participate a lot, and she will reflect your willingness to learn. Much more lenient than most teachers, and is willing to understand the problem rather than blame the student.
She can't teach at all. She's extremely disorganized and can never get anything done. She is also almost always late, sometimes by half the period or so, and goes way to slow in class. Her classes are behind other classes by three chapters or so and now she's attempting to rush through the rest of the content to catch up and cover the curriculum. Not that it would actually change how much we learn because I've only learned from the textbook and never from her.
WORST. TEACHER. EVER.
Like legit i couldnt endure any more of her. She sucks at teaching. Like at one point it got so bad that I just stopped going to class for 3 weeks straight. She will bore the hell out of you and im pretty sure she doesnt know wth shes talking about.
She was amazing! I learned so much history in her class! She loves participation! Ra-Ra-Rasputin lover of the russian queen!
Shuman's class was the most terrible thing I have endured. She is absolutely th worst teacher I've ever had in my years at Stuy. She cannot teach. She's so disorganized and claims that you have to be
she tries her best but is very disorganized. kiss up to her and it'll guarantee a 90 ! also make sure u do the hw even if she doesn't check it
Nice lady. Very disorganized, pretty incompetent teacher. Just read the textbook for the tests and try to get on her good side and you'll do just fine. Rarely checks hw.
you're going to have to learn everything on your own because unfortunately she doesn't teach a thing
She's really nice and if you study for your tests a little and participate in the discussions, you'll get 90 . Our class tended to be more distracting so we didn't get a lot of stuff done. She tries:)
Procrastinate. All History info obtained only from textbook.
A very disorganized and confusing teacher. I have a feeling she procrastinates a lot, I never got back some of my tests. Class often goes off in tangents. You can tell she tries and does genuinely car
Extremely disorganized, can't really teach. But she tries, and she's very nice. Just study from the textbook for tests and you'll do fine.
shes an easy teacher if u pay attention in class and do the homework. her discussions are pretty interesting too. but she gets off topic alot and her article analysises and all that were unnecessary a
She's a really nice teacher and all and teachers well if you just pay attention and take notes, but she moves wayyyy way wayyyy too slowly.
Shes a really nice teacher but picks on the same 3 ppl everyday to debate about the same question if u dont read the txtbk everyday for tests (which has nothng to do w/ the discussions) ur gona fail
Well, she's a pretty nice teacher but watch out for repeatitive lessons every day... it feels like an endless circle about the same topics. But at the same time, this makes it easy to pass her class.
Very nice, sometimes gives too much homework, and a lot of class discussions, so be sure to take notes and pay attention.
Amazing ! Really nice, - and made me interested in history.
didnt learn anything in the class gave me an 88 when i got a 99 on the regents
everyone here is so harsh... if YOU fell asleep that's your problem. I stayed awake and loved the class. Are you really going to blame her for being a chill teacher? overall, great
You don't learn anything but quite possibly the nicest teacher in Stuy
Nice person, a bit disorganized but she tries to teach and let us appreciate history.
Why does everyone hate her so much? I had her for 1 1/2 years, not only was she a good teacher she was a relatively easy grader. She put good nots on the blackboard and was friendly and interactive.
a fun teacher. get to know her and you'll do good. but her tests are probably the worst ever..
she gives us no notes... she also seems REALLY disorganized and blames it on us sometimes...sometimes we have good discussions tho. she gets off topic A LOT. i geuss shes ok
i was pretty prepared for the departmental final (93) but she loves giving low grades and she gave me a 90. only her best students get 93s. i hate her!
Worst teacher ever! Class is basically off topic discussions and she repeats the same things over and over again! She does not prepare you for ANYTHING. And also a bad grader. She gives totally random grades.
Too many class discussions. She barely writes notes. Like most people said: TEXTBOOK iS YOUR LiFE.
Many class discussions, most of them really funny, but she is very, very, VERY disorganized. It got annoying after a while when I had to go back to her room at the end of the day to pick up a handout she forgot about...
I miss her! I hated her freshman year but now I realize how awesome she was.
GIVES Alot of HW ....tooo much man and half the times she tells us we did it wrong
Lots of class discussions, which are fun (albeit sometimes off-topic), not too much work, but lots of entertaining information, goes by more than just the textbook! Handouts are valuable. Seems like a fun, motivated teacher.
always goes off-topic, incredibly disorganized, & her grading policy kind of really sucks. not much work though, reaaally few tests and she almost never checked hw.
Great teacher, and always wants us to be geography freaks, which is kinda funny. overall, you can learn a lot in that class, and have a fun time
i dont think shes that great . .shes kinda mean at times
cool homeroom teaher! really cares about us. so sweet
Always seems to get chalk on her clothes from the chalkboard. Good teacher very "pivotal." Let's be geography freaks! 7 Dwarves! Easy tests. Fun so far. I like the "group" projects.
one of my favorits this year. I heard she's the golf coach. Has nice shoes
It was a good semesterin the end. I think I did learn a lot of things.
She has an interesting class. She talks about food a lot, which can be funny.
what? I had Ms. shuman last year. I loved the class and her teaching - funny and fun. whoever is writing this sounds mad b/c they are doing bad. she also takes us to good lecture
Huh? i had her for global 3/4 and really learned alot. She is really cool and her class is alot of fun to be in. I look foward to going to it everyday. she is into maps.
Annoying! u can easily tell y she teachin only freshmans. talks 2 much about stuff that dont matter! study the textbook if u wanna pass
i liked her a lot! i thought she made class interesting. tthen again, i had her 3 years ago so maybe i just dont remember BUT she lost my term project and only gave me a 90 on it!
The text book will be your life, dont listen to what she says and memorize maps.
She reminds me a bit of Holly's character in what i like about you. Unlike the actress who plays her, she is ditzy and annoying and should go back to junior high.
Her H4G class was pretty enjoyable..we watched a lot of movies
She's nice and at least tries, but she's not really as knowledgeable as she should be. I used to love history...
not a hard teacher but when you're in her class, you feel as if she doesn't know as much as she should. always bragging about her law degree too (no one believes her though).
Shes pretty dern cool. And I actually walk away from the discussions having learned something. Don't hate.
really nice teacher but spends too much time on discussions.
she's alright,but she can't teach,all she does is "excellent, wow, i didn't think of that, that's excellet..."
She's actually quite good. Also, there is no C in her name.
not cool. I don't see any strong qualities as a teacher
An all right person, but she'd be much better suited teaching third graders.
