I am a former student of Mr. Beeckman's -- he was an excellent teacher and I learned the French language very well at TJ. His grading could be bizarre -- I always got well over 100% on everything but had friends who received negative scores (I recall one where I received around 450 points on a 350 point exam, and a friend of mine received a -50!) -- but he provided ample opportunities to redeem y
REMEMBER NOT TO SPEAK ENGLISH IN THE ZONE. WHERE ELSE DO YOU GET TO LEARN THE DOOGIE FROM DA DIVA.DO ALL THE WORKSHEETS AND YOU BE ALL GOOD FOR THE TESTS.
I only had Mr. Beeckman for a month, but it was great. I learned a lot in that short period. He told us a lot of stories and it was fun. It's really sad that he left. He was one of the greatest teachers I had at TJ and he will be missed.
I'm just a freshmen so I've only had him for about a month. On the first day he seemed really boring and strict but after that he got really cool and fun. Tests are a bit hard but he tries his best to get you prepared and help you understand your mistakes. He also really checks your homework to make you better. It sucks that he's leaving, he was really cool and the new lady is weird :/
Mr. Beeckman gives the air of a strict teacher when you first see him, but after a little while you see that he's a really friendly teacher with a good sense of humor.
Sometimes I find that the class time isn't spent teaching us the material very well, and is somewhat old-fashioned (copying down everything on board, hoping you study the right ones)
Overall he's a great guy, not the best teacher.
speak Only French in the ZONE and you will get a good grade in the course . Do the homework and take notes from the board for the bonus pts on exams
Doesn't teach at all. Tests are difficult because you can't expect what is going to be on them. Class time is really laid back.
FAVTEACHER. soo nice. His stories about France can often be random, but seriously hilarious. M. Beeckman never checks homework, and that can be good or bad depending on the type of student you are.
if you actually do the work, it's surprising how much you learn. it's pretty easy to blow the class off and get a decent grade, but if you put effort into it you can easily get an a
Mr B. is a great teacher. I like his stories and pictures about his trips to France, especially when he was lost in the medieval castle. It makes me love the language.
If you do not do the partner work and homework , the exams will be difficult.
He's very strict about not saying a single English word during French class. He uses the term, "Pas d'Anglais dans la zone", which means, NO ENGLISH IN THE ZONE! As long as you only speak French, do the homework, and study a bit. You will be fine. Also, he's really funny after 1st semester.
He never explains any of the different verb conjugations but he gives really hard tests. The only people I know who have A's in his class are already fluent in french or spend their whole life studying!
Beeckman is a great teacher! He may seem intimidating at first, but after that, the class is fine. He prepares you very well for the AP and you will definitely learn a lot of french!
His class was tough, but he was very fair. As long as you study and do the work, you can get a good grade. Most importantly, you WILL be extremely well prepared for the AP as long as you listen to him
I Love monsieur Beeckman...he is pretty much amazing, you don't need to do ANY homework all year and his tests are ridiculously easy, be careful though, when you test on a story he is really specific
Really great teacher. So funny and teaches you a lot about everthing.
Hes a tough grader, but I got a 4 on the AP without trying very hard in his class. Hes got a great sense of humor and is by far the BEST french teacher at TJ!
A fun (and funny) teacher, but it depends on the class. French 3 was a lot of work (you learn a lot); AP was more relaxed and fun despite the semi-daily tests. He spends a lot of time for his classes.
moves us before every test ..we are at least 3 feet from each other
Pretty cool teacher, and you pretty much get used to the class. Doesn't really feel like you learn a whole lot, but good preparation for the AP.
he's pretty cool. i mean, he talks fast, and it's hard to understand him at first, but you get used to it. and DO HOMEWORK. that's the only way to get on the good side.
Mr. Beeckman may talk to fast sometimes, but he really knows what he's talking about and teaches well. He explains everything very thoroughlt and gives plenty of extra credit on tests, which is nice.
cares about you as a person evn if you suk @ french...if yo need a rec and hav not worked in class he will sey no
Best teacher I had in high school. I graduated in 1991, but took 3 years of French with Mr. Beeckman.
j'adore m.beeckman! he is an amazing teacher and you learn SO much from him. if you have him(i hope i'll have him this year), i think you will learn so much from him.
My favorite teacher ever! Genuinely cares about the language & while preparing you for the AP, gives you great native perspective. Sure it's a challenge, but worth every minute. Awesome teacher recs.
A little intimidating at first, but as the year goes on, he opens up and the classes become hilarious.
Hard teacher, hard class. He takes off a lot of points for tiny mistakes on tests. He does surprise hw check every once in a while so be ready for those and definitely study for tests.
I had Mr. Beeckman 5 years ago. Helpful, fun, great instruction. Do your homework, you'll be fine. Great prep for the Language AP.
awesome teacher. alwasy willing to make a joke, especially when it involves a student not knowing what he's saying!
I had Mr. Beeckman as a teacher nearly 10 years ago and cannot thank him enough for all that he taught me. I only took three years of French and yet to this day I have no problem carrying a conversation when traveling overseas. His class covered an extraordinary amount of information in a short period of time, which often caused quite a bit of stress. However, if you are truly committed to learning the language then he will help you achieve this goal.
My son has complained about Beeckman several times. His requirement that we buy yellow legal-sized pads has cost us several hours of our time.
Great teacher. He's the ONLY route to a high AP grade.
M. Beeckman is really fair a tough grader but it's not impossible to do well. He makes quizzes and tests worth ridiculous amounts of points, so by the end of a quarter you have thousands of points! The grades are only based on quizzes/tests, and the prepartation grades are totally random. The class includes a lot of busy work, but it's not necessary to do it all. The class itself can get boring, but he's a good teacher. no projects or fun games or anything...lots of reading stories. Study!
m.b-about as honest as you can get..sometimes too honest but at least then you know what needs to be done to improve
more to class than french, you learn abt food manners, music ,fashion, and literature
He is extremely tough and sometimes grades weird. But he tries the hardest of all the teachers.
i got Cs across the board in his class but i love mr beeckman. he's funny if can understand him and the 400 point class grade keeps you from doing too badly in his class and fair also
no trick questions here just be on time and show interest and you'll be all good
grades are based on quizzes, tests, preparation, and more quizzes. just be a good student, pretend you're listening, and ask questions.. hes really fair
mosieur is giving us no work during thanksgiving...he fly mon
no games here just work, work, and more work but we always get our tests back and he explains everithing
makes ya work but really fair and cares when ya havn problems
no chillin' here monsieur B. gives way to much homework but it pays off on exams and pals
Knowledgeable teacher for a challenging class. He's not satisfied unless his whole class gets 5's. If you really want to triple your french skills, get le Beek.
do your homework 'cause he tests you on it-go figure-only at tj
remembers every1 and everything, even knows my uncle taught at w.springfield
Has a reputation of being impossible. I hated French, but he was my favorite of the 3 french teachers i had, I actually learned grammar and it wasn't too hard.
ap exam was easy compared to the practice tests.French lit should be easier now
one of the hardest teachers i've had but i felt somewhat fluent in french after i had him.
he's AMAZING. I love him so much. And so should you. He's the greatest.
a very nice fellow, but we did nothing but take practice AP tests for the entire third quarter of AP french- no teaching involved. Hard times.
"C'est Incroyable" He is a really good teacher assigns a lot of hw but things like translations and stuff really help.
He's a kickbutt teacher. He definitely knows his stuff. He's a little tough, and I have trouble staying awake, but he's great at teaching.
BEEEk. this man is the definition of beautiful... if your having a hard time in his class he will nuzzle you in his busom. i love him, but his class is hard.
do NOT slack off or it will hurt your grade. Just getting your homework done and getting to class on time is enough to get atleast a B.
Hes hard, tests are really hard, hes really demanding, but a great teacher and really knows his stuff!
HARD tests, but mr. beeckman is one of the nicest, most helpful teachers ever. if you work hard, he will do everything he can to help you raise your grade
Very tough, but fair. He asks a lot of you, but not an unreasonable amount. I am very glad for the three years I had with him
Does not so much teach as gives assignments and grades them--taking French 3 from M. Beeckman was more like being given a "teach yourself French" class.
Tough but fair, the only year I actually learned anything in French
my brother is at Yale and getting A's in adv french thanks to the two years with him and madame delfosse
Always there to help, even though you need to talk to him in french, worthwhile
quite a lot of work, but you learn a lot; nice guy if you get to know him
