Mr. DeZwaan is my IB Histroy teacher. He is quite an interesting guy. I can tell he is very knowledgeable about everything he teachers, however his ramblings make little sense and if it weren't for the videos and packets I would be lost. His jokes are humorous but I wish he knew how to explain things himself.
Note that this critique is based on Mr. DeZwaan's American History class, not on IB2. DeZwaan's class, unlike other history classes, is NOT a discussion. DeZwaan's assignments all revolve around repeating what is described in the videos and packets used to teach the class. This would be okay if DeZwaan's packets and videos didn't all follow a hilariously politicized "progressive" historiography. He even spent 2 weeks teaching about WW2 war crimes vs. the Japanese Army. Not civilians, the ARMY.
Mr. De Zwaan is hilarious and AWESOME! With that said, his class can be dry with videos and packets, but if you pay attention to his videos and actually read his packets, you can learn a lot. Mr. De Zwaan is one of the most intelligent and intellectual people I've met, he loves what he does and knows what he is doing. He's the ideal teachher (I know it's spelled wrong): a smart, happy and funny guy. He seems like he is a good guy and always has a positive attitude. He is a living legend!
DZ is, in my opinion, the best teacher at IA. He is hilarious, silly, and incredibly nice and understanding. He works really hard—DZ practically lives at IA and I don’t know what it’d be like without him. I love talking to him and I enjoyed his class immensely. It was always entertaining but jam-packed with info. He knows EVERYTHING about history and he’s extremely good at conveying it all. Those powerpoints are amazing and I learned TONS! The statewide teaching award he won this year was well deser
He knows his stuff, but he talks for 20 minutes without saying anything at all, gives the same lecture every class, and answers every question with both "yes" and "no." His is extremely unclear and confusing. He also treats some students poorly and grades quite unfairly.
Maybe a little too easy and doesn't go enough in depth, but he knows what he's talking about and he has a way of making students remember what they're studying. Also, he's hilarious. 'Nuff said.
No one messes with Dezzy. Believe it or not, he knows his history quite well. In the class, you get what you deserve...he does cut quite a bit of slack. Only con: can't sleep in his class...unless he will go zzzzzzzp (funny noise)
he may not be the best history teacher but he's pretty easy (all those videos) and the acronyms and packets he gives us really help in preparing for the ibs :)
As a person he would be one of my favorite, however as a teacher I do not like him. He's a great guy, but I find his explanations very unclear and his teaching style to be boring and difficult to focus on
What for Pete's sake....no help. No help at all. Repeats everything at least five times and gives out random worksheets and makes us watch too many movies and says the WEIRDEST things ever. I am so worried about my ib history exam..
yes he is ADD, but he is hillarious and he actually makes history fun! seriously, I always used to sleep in history, but I have actually been able to learn in his class!
If you can manage to stay awake in his class, you'll know everything you need to know for the test. Funny guy, very helpful if you have questions. My break down for his class was 20% learning and 80% watching movies.
I know that everyone loves him but I never listen in his class. I end up teaching it all to myself the night before a test.
Great teacher! Makes material so clear and easy. Everything he teaches just sticks in your head. His videos are reallyyy helpful. Also very funny and makes class actually fun.
dz is awesome! i am actually enjoying history this yr
De Zwaan is the best teacher at IA. He knows what hes talking about.
For the amount of work we actually do (which is not much), we learn a LOT....and he makes really great analogies. The "Crab Walk" heheh
I dont know how Mr. De Zwaan does it, but even though he is probably the easiest teacher that I have ever had you leave his class actually knowing the material. Combined I only lost like maybe 3 points. You really do have to work at it to leave his class with anything less then an A and a fairly firm handle on European history.
Mr. DeZwaan is a good teacher. His lecutres are informative and he really nice guy. too bad that a lot of BAD people rely on him being nice and now he isn't as nice as before
his dutch accent is awesome, and he is "interdiscplinary" he starts talking about china and ends up talking about random things.
Thanks for telling us how to keep "The Man"'s hands off of our stuff. It really came in handy. He also knows a lot about America
Oh my god. the amazingness. adding letters to peoples names and being...well...dutch.
mr. dezwaan is awesome... and if you think otherwise, i hope you get in a car accident
His class is boring and repetetive. But that is offset by his easiness and Dutch accent.
Well.. he's very easy, not much homework, and lots of movies. You still learn, but sometimes you wish he'd be less repetitive and have more class involvement.
lol crappy teacher... doesn't let u say one word but hes really easy and can get A very easy... dind't mind until the end of the year where i got fed up wit him
mr. dezwaan, or as he is sometimes known "dezwaadle"- coolest teacher. very amusing class
"Todaay... we'll be watching a myooooovie." Yay for the Netherlands!
I love what he called a certain student in his classroom one day! He's great!
De Zwaan is awesome. Huzzah for het vaderland, Nederlands!
Mr. de Zwaan is pretty cool. He's foreign and the accent is hilarious.
"America's a salad and the Dutch people are the onions!"
one of the most fun and easy going history teachers around
true, mr. de zwaan's english is probably better than most of ours. He's not giving piles of work like some of the other ib teachers but i learned so much
He needs to learn english. he isn't preparing us...but i'm not complaining, well, yeah i am. oh well. he's cool.
