Her class is very different from most conventional classes but if you do the work and put your heart into it, you can get a lot out of class. Mrs. Mastriano loves her students and has a lot to teach. Be ready for 50 pages of notebook writing every quarter though.
She's a good person and has many interesting stories to tell, but academically she is incredibly confusing. No structure in class curriculum. I'd be surprised if she was even following a curriculum. She sometimes rants for an entire class and expects you to have quizzes on materials she never taught you. She expects you to read entire plays in one night and take in depth notes on them. She gives hours of homework a night. Switch out while you can! I haven't learned a single thing all year.
Although the class is difficult, Mastriano is an amazing teacher that will help you grow in ways no one else can.
If you want to adapt to her ways of teaching, then do so and you will get an A. If you don't, you'll struggle and most likely finish with a low C high D
seriously, best teacher ive ever had, if you go into her class, be nice! shell love you as long as you respect her and everything she does. i have no idea what some of the people are saying about her methods of teaching, because as long as you focus on the vocabulary and actually pay attention, youll blow through the quarter with ease (coming from a serious slacker).-N
Awesome teacher, super lively and helpful. Likes to get to know you as a person and her class is enjoyable.
I disliked her. She is the type of teacher you will either love or hate. She loved me because I did art and theater but I hate her and actively avoid her to this day. I usually had no idea what she was talking about. her class was a lot of memorization. I really love theater and she butchered the shakespeare unit and killed theater for a lot of people. the class is also a lot of group work which is very stressful. It was a really traumatizing class. I still get nauseaus if i walk by her room
There have always been mixed reviews on her. However, she truly reinforced creativity, and although people said her unorganized schedule was a mess, it was better than a preplanned one. She is an great teacher, and one who cares about her students :)
I know that Mastriano seems completely out there, off-topic and honestly a little scary, but if you actually let yourself enjoy the class and forget about what anyone else might think of her or you, you will enjoy it. Most things she does she has a reason, though it may be a skewed one, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!! If she's letting you play ninja in the hallway, why be one of those kids who doesn't try and looks embarrassed?? She is very passionate, and if you let her she will help you a lot.
I'm currently class of 2015, and halfway through the year. Most of my classmates hate her and so do i. She's really unorganized you get quizzes back 2-3 weeks after you take them, she lets you play games in class almost every week and sleep, Her tests are weird and her e-board is impossible, she makes you do Shakespeare but overall she's so passionate and into what she's doing. If you like theater and drama you'll like her class otherwise you'll realize she was an amazing teacher in the summer.
Mastriano is simply the worst teacher. If you are cursed with being put in this class drop it as fast as you humanly can. She goes off curriculum, adds pointless, insane amounts of stress; is selfish, careless and vague, impossible homework/ tests. Words cannot describe how awful she is and how bad she is at her job and how out of touch with reality she is. I honestly can't believe she is still employed by this school and I sincerely hope for the good of any future students that she is removed.
Mastriano is great. I was honestly terrified of her in the beginning of the school year, but as you get to know her, you learn that she's a wonderful teacher and person. She's idealistic, not very clear on assignments, and likes dropping pop quizzes on you, but don't stress out! They don't matter for that much of your grade and as long as you do the assigned reading everything's fine. Just show her that you're willing to put effort into her class and assignments and she will love you.
Mastriano is a great teacher. Sure, a lot of her assignments seem pointless, but really she is just trying to get everyone to open up with assignments and loosen up a bit. I wouldn't advise a switch out of her class and I never wanted to myself. I believe that only a type of student will like her class though. She has her tough moments and she gets overemotional, but in reality she can teach you a lot. She is a sweetheart and she appreciates good effort.
Former students of hers warned me the beginning of sophomore year to switch ASAP. I didn't listen and thought they were exaggerating. Second semester - can not stand her. Dread her class and just her in general. Worst teacher and just a mean person. Doesn't teach anything besides theater and stage directions, and goes on pointless rants about hating technology. Biggest waste of time and I still manage to get poor grades. Currently trying to switch out. Never hated a teacher this much in my life.
I tried very hard to get switched out of her class at the beginning of the year but it didn't work out. after being forced to have her I realized she taught me many things that no other teacher could.
She is an excellent teacher, but probably misunderstood by many grade-obsessed students at LM. She turned out to be one of the best teachers I've ever had, and I am so grateful for that class.
If you are an upcoming sophomore and you are assigned this teacher, I highly suggest switching out. Worst teacher I have ever had extremely vague, bizarre/ irrelevant assignments Completely spaced out
very smart. very fun class. but challenging when it comes to getting good grades. very smart lady
one of my favorite teachers of all time. once the student is able to get past their own ego and obsession with percentages and gpa's they'll be able to discover her incredible insight she has to offer
One of the worst experiences of my life. Expects her class to be her students' top priority. Also has a burning hatred against technology; and you really don't learn that much in her class.
Very interesting to listen to, hard to get bored in her class - a little emotionally unstable and unclear at times (assignments can be vague) but it's definitely one of the more interesting classes
Mrs. Mastriano is a "flake." Unreliable with returning assignments, in fact some assignments I never saw again. She comes off as wise, but her "insights" are outdated, and she has little to offer.
i love her. she'll push you to your limits and sometimes even past them, but if you listen to her you'll find that she can be extremely helpful. she's also an amazing person. truly amazing.
Good teacher, but can be a little unclear and unfair. Not a good teacher for those who don't enjoy what I like to call "creative regurgitation." Either you love her or hate her.
She is a trainrec. She would always break down in class and she never had our papers ready when promised because her "daughter wanted to play". Overall, just an unreliable lady.
Although I agree she is intimidating and bordering on annoying at times, if you pay attention youll learn a lottt
She really get's students to try their best and achieve their best writing, but the key is, you must listen to her, and write in the pesky writers notebook. Too idealistic for her own good, and ours.
in general people seem to love her at first, but despise her by halfway through the year. She heavily overworks people, and teaches and acting/drama class, not english like she's supposed to.
Tries too hard to be profound. Insensitive and says things and then often contradicts them. Misses the point of and English class.
She's still a good teacher...Why isn't there a goodness rating?
i mean, i guess i could see how someone would like her, but personlly, for a person who used to love english, hated the class. She is sooo into theatre. its annoying. vocab=huge
She has a very unique style and you either hate her or love her. I got my first B in English from her but I enjoyed the class a lot because she made me look at things differently.
Mrs. Mastriano was the best mentor I had at LM, and she will forever continue to inspire me.
It has been awhile since I've left L.M. but I had this wonderful woman as a teacher. I will never forget the class when she read "Leaves of Grass" to us.
Mrs. Mastriano is an amazing teacher. She encourages students to be creative and gives constructive criticism. A wonderful woman outside of the classroom too!
Very unclear and won't cooperate if you have complaints
alright, a bit spacy at times but her creative writign class is amazing.
if you like theatre youll love her.... if not ....yeah get ready to do scenework etc for at least a quarter.....
Mrs. Mastriano is a great teacher. I would have never learned Iambic pentameter if it wasn't for her and I had a great time doing it!
You can argue her out of half of the grades she gives you if they aren't up to your liking. She is a very lovely individual, and I enjoyed the class.
how good of a teacher she is depends on what kind of student you are...
Cool teacher, at times a little weird...can be very vague w/ assignments.
She was the first teacher that taught me not how to write but to appreciate doing so. Her class was amazing, especially if you like poetry and theatre.
she is difficult, but also very good, very willing to help
