Though I got an A no problem, a lot of it was self-taught/independent research. He doesn't teach the concepts, rather, makes you watch 15-min youtube lectures that, while you are able to go at your own pace, are sometimes confusing and do not go into detail over the IMPORTANT things (main reason behind the "we didn't learn this" moment after every test). He answers any questions the next day, but doesn't review much else. Very funny, kind person though. My advice: definitely read the textbook.
Awesome personality overall, however as a teacher I was very frustrated with him. He has us do labs most of the time in class which does not help very much with learning the material and expects us to learn the whole chapter from his 14 minute videos. Its just a really hard class because I feel like I have to teach myself all of the material and when it comes to tests and quizzes they are so hard and everyone fails but he said he doesn't care about our grades. its a very hard, stressful class.
I like the lecture videos. That way I can review at my own pace. The kids who complain about the videos complain about everything.
I love Mr. Edstrom. I think he works hard, and he is really nice. You have to do your homework, but if you do, he will go out of his way to help you.
Mr. Edstrom is a great teacher! I learned a lot in his class, including the need to think for myself. He tries really hard to get you to think. If you have questions, ask.
I had Mr. Edstrom last year. I think the course was the first course I had to work. It is really easy to blame the teacher, but if you are not getting it, it is your job to ask him for help.
I love Mr. Edstrom. I just do not get why some say he does not teach. My only guess is that others just want to blame him when they don't get it, instead of trying to get it.
My son loves him. He is working hard to communicate his learning objectives, and I appreciate that.
I like Mr. Edstrom. Biology is definiely not easy for me, but he is very willing to give extra help.
Okay some people on here are being too harsh.. He definitely wasn't the best science teacher I've ever had but not the worst. I had him for bio accel freshman year and I always got A's and B's and im not the best at science. You just have to read and do your homework and don't rely on him to teach you in class because chances are, you dont get much done.
Well... hes really funny teacher but he doesnt really help in class.... Bio is one of the only things i need to study for.
Definitely makes his teacher unclear, but if you really pay attention and ask questions, he can really help you! Although, I had to self-teach myself MANY things... it was pretty frustrating and probably the most stressful class of the year. He wouldn't put full credit for my homework, which I understand, but he wouldn't even tell me why! Sometimes he wouldn't also give us our tests/quizzes back. If we don't learn from our mistakes, then how can we do well? Otherwise, he had a great personality.
Horrible in class but funny to mess around with after you've had him. I screamed edstrom in the halls everytime I saw him. He hatedme in class and it was a great time.
I am not sure why others whine about him so much. I was in his Nat. Sci. class, and the students in general could not be more lazy. I appreciate his willingness to work with us every day.
One of the most under-rated teachers at Stevenson. He needs to get out of the freshmen classes (who whine about everything). He deserves better.
Pretty cool guy, and an average teacher. I enjoyed his class
He was the best teacher i ever had, had him for freshmen science, very helpful, made fun jokes, and was awesome
Funny guy, and a good person, but you had to learn everything by yourself. Also he made challenging tests.
so hilarious, except for the part where you have to learn everything yourself, ha.
Hes a funny teacher and entertaining but when your in the mood to learn and he goes off on a rant about something so unimportant it gets annoying. dont talk when hes talking cause he gets REALLY mad. Im naturally good at science so i didnt need a good teacher, got a's all around. If you have him be prepared to laugh and really pay attention in class cause he gives test answers in powerpoints! He's also VERY lazy with grading.
Liked him as a person, but not as a teacher. didn't really teach much or keep the class informed about tests or projects or due dates or the subject matter
NOT a good teacher. Perhaps he's nice, but does that matter when he isn't doing his job-to teach us? I never found him funny either. Terrible teacher.
I liked him. He was a good teacher, and was very easy. I got A's and A 's in his classes. He is funny and always adds humor to the class. He is a little flaky though when putting in grades, but overall, he is great.
hilarious teacher. his class was always one of my favorite classes to go to. He is a terrible teacher though, you have to practically teach yourself everything
great teacher. hes funny and the tests are soooo easy!
He expects that his students have to work to learn. That makes him a great teacher.
fun person but i didnt learn anything from him. he just used his powerpoints the whole class
Hey he was a great person and all but I believe he has no idea what the material is he just leaves on your own with his power points and basically i have to teach my self through the book, but dont get me wrong he was alot of fun but just not very good at teaching the material. Don't like his style
Fun guy and nice. But he didn't teach and was not helpful in anyway. He made that class harder than it had to be with his teaching methods. ANYONE WHO IS NEW TO HIM NEEDS TO READ THE BOOK BECAUSE YOU WILL GET NO HELP FROM HIM!!!
he's fun but doesn't teach. i like him as a person but not a teacher
Our Opinion: A substandard teacher in a school full of great ones. Seems to lack basic biology knowledge. Evasive, unclear, sometimes plain WRONG, when answering substantive bio questions.
HATED him. Ugh. Didn't learn anything. Got through with an A by fighting for every point. He doesn't tell you the answer he wants, then contradicts the book answer on the test so you have to argue your brains out every time.
my favorite person in the world but definately not teacher. hes hilarious... but doesnt teach anything and you have to teach yourself. his tests are brutal but you usually wont know anything on it because he never talks about anything were suppose to know
Loved him, hated the class. I think its very hard to teach the material, but I didn't learn much (and didn't want to), but very fun, and made my day.
awesome teacher even though you learn anything he's so much fun and says hi to you in the halls
Awesome guy with a great personality and he's really nice -- teaches absolutely nothing. If you want to learn Bio, don't get in his class. If you want to have fun, find him.
he is nice except he picks favorites and can have a temper possibly from life outside of school. He recently assigned a very hard video project and expected to much.
decent teacher, and says hello to you in the halls, which is nice.
FOR STUDY HALL HES THE COOLEST GUY EVER AND IS HILARIOUS(didnt have as a teacher tho..)
really nice person, but does not teach at all and talks about random stuff instead of teaching so i learned pretty much nothing
