Make no mistake, Mr. Irwin is a good teacher. If you want to become a better writer and are willing to put in the work, he's your guy. His characterization as a "hippy" is well deserved and he defiantly puts too much personal bias in the social justice aspects of the class, but if you can get through that, you will find a teacher who genuinely wants to help you succeed. His class is the type where you don't realize the effect it's had until you're already through with it. Thank you, Mr. Irwin.

As a young conservative, raised in a primarily liberal town, I have to admit that I have seen many people that I don not agree with. Irwin, however, is a bush-hippy that probably cares more about the minerals in the soil, more than protecting the lives of unborn children. I warn parents, who allow teachers to be examples for their impressionable children, to first make sure they understand good Christian values, before they are brainwashed by this third century hermit. God Bless.

Dont get me wrong hes a fun teacher. First day of school he let us sleep! He definitely keeps you on your toes. We do a writing in a notebook about every week but he throws the notebook to you so learn how to catch one if you dont know how. Anyways if you take standards youll be fine almost no homework and very fun no tests. If youre in honors be ready to have a herd time. If you are in honors he will make it hard. GRADING IS HARD doesn't cut you any slack. QUIZZES/TESTS are hard. Watch Out

A lot of people are put off by Irwin's social justice-lens he seems to impose upon every aspect of the class, but personally I deeply enjoyed being one of his students. He does focus a lot on social issues, but that's only because they're integral to most of the literature we study in his class. I'm not going to argue that he doesn't play favorites, because, well, he does. But as long as you're not racist or misogynistic or an irredeemable jerk, you'll do fine in his class.

Never learned anything. He grades harshly. If you say anything sounding at all racist, he will give you an F. You can not have your own opinion. I wrote a paper on my opinion of a subject and he said it was WRONG with no other critics and I got a C.

One of the worst teachers I had. Plays favorites. Makes absolutely every single student to agree with his opinion. Grades very strictly. Didn't learn any english. All we talked about was his life, occupy wall street, and other useful stuff.

Irwin is a unique teacher. I loved his class because it was so different and interesting. When you read books you explore how that applies to the world which I enjoyed. If you can keep an open mind you will love his class.

He puts his own twist on English class. You have to have opinions in his class, he does. He is funny and has good ideas.

Classic example of an intolerant preacher of tolerance. Don't expect to actually learn English - be prepared instead for quite a bit of leftist propaganda.

Just because he's a "hippy" doesn't mean he's cool. Very inconsistent and definately plays favorites. I don't think we finished a single book in his class.
