Mr. Monty is really knowledgeable and the Mock Congress is a lot of fun. The tests and quizzes are very hard but he cares about his students and will help them if they're struggling.
Great teacher and as long as you take good notes during lectures and know the vocabulary you'll do fine on his tests. As a person, he is really strict and sometimes rude but people say different things depending on the semester they have had him.
Although I do good in his class, its very hard to get used to his flow. In order to do good in his class, you have to know the structure of his tests and based on this study things that are likely to be on the tests. He always tests on people, movements, events, and documents
I've never struggled in a class like this. I've never had problems doing well in history before, yet I struggled to keep a C in Monty's class. All you do is listen to lectures and take notes that end up making no sense later on. For homework, you read really old documents that never really clarify what you're learning. When I approached Monty about my struggles (studying for hours did no good), he just told me to "go over the terms". For tests, there are no study guides, so you're on your own
He will pick favorites, and if you're not one of them, this class will be horrible. He doesn't teach anything, so unless you already have prior knowledge of the subject, the tests will be extremely difficult. Also, he doesn't mention half of the things that are on the tests and doesn't give out a study guide or use the textbook so you're really left in the dark when it comes to studying. Overall, his classes are painfully boring to sit through and unpleasant.
Pay attention in class and you'll learn a lot and be very prepared. Do other work in class and rely on the textbook, and you'll do poorly. He covers a lot of material in his lectures and emphasises the important points. Very personable and realistic both about his subject matter and his students' availability to work. It's not an easy A, but he makes the most of class. Mock congress is almost entirely class-run (he vetoed a bill to invade and annex Canada) which makes it either great or awful.
Great AP Gov teacher. Learned a lot in his class. Would highly recommend.
Don't want to be negative or mean but certainly would not recommend him as a teacher. I had him this past semester and it was extremely difficult and I tried really hard and this is my 10th AP class. His lectures are hard to stay in tune to and he is not very approachable if you need additional help. Gov is already a difficult and unpopular subject for many and he doesn't make it any better. His tests are also the hardest of any subject/teacher I've ever experienced. Plus side is he's so smart
He's a good teacher, just a little dry during discussions and lectures in my opinion. Easily got an A in his class but it was just very, very boring! Raise your hand a lot and decently try and you'll get a good grade.
Awesome guy... he teaches well and I encourage anyone in his class to ALWAYS USE THE BOOK, EVEN WHEN ITS NOT NECESSARY. Exams are difficult in order to make you well-prepared for the AP exam. Monty is the best!
I sleep during his class (but he never catches me), and he actually likes the students who don't do anything. Sometimes, I actually try and do my work and he hates me, but another girl at my table just spends the entire time flirting with this other guy in my class and he likes her more than me. Even his regular world is difficult. REGULAR world. I don't understand Montgomery at all. Drop out (get another teacher) if you get him for regular world or AP government. Worst history teacher ever >:-(
The WORST and MOST ANNOYING teacher I've had during my high school career. So hypocritical, and plays favorites with students who don't even try. This class = why. Oh right, participation. That's why.
Teacher is too tryhard, its a boring class, but I think so are 90% of history classes at TP. IF you have him... not much to be said. At least the homework isn't busywork.
One of the better teachers I had at Torrey Pines, the class was a lot of fun and looking back there was a lot of funny things that happened in that class.
Great teacher if you actually want to learn history. Get him to like you in the beginning of the year and you will be set for an easy, laid back class that can be really FUN!!!!!!
he is literally the BIGGEST douche bag i have ever met in my life. IF YOU GET HIM SWITCH OUT. HE'S HORRIBLE. I HATE HIM. HE TOOK AWAY MY TEST TODAY CAUSE I TOOK TO LONG AND I WAS ON NUMBER 17 AND IT HAD ONLY BEEN LIKE 25 MINUTES. NOW IM GOING TO FAIL THE WHOLE CLASS. great. seriously though. i hate him. switch out.
He thinks he is really smart but he really isnt. There are definitely questions that are wrong but he doesnt budge. He is harsh on projects and harsh on participation. If you get on his good side, he will like you. Just do amazing on tests and quizzes.
Worst teacher I've had... He has stupid class discussions and mood swings, gives everyone B- for participation, which is worth the same as all the quiz grades. If i could choose one word to describe him, it'd be stupid. He acts like he knows what he's talking about but he is a horrible teacher and you will hate going to his class every other day. he ruined my senior year for me. thanks monty.
Plays favorites, stuck up, does not help students................. i hate him along with everyone else i know... godd luck if you get him.....
Good teacher, harder than other History teachers, but does explain everything in his ppt. Most people hate him cause he is kinda strict in class
I honestly don't understand why people hate him. He's a pretty good guy and if you just do his homework, you'll do well on his tests. His biggest fault is that he isn't very interesting in class.
honestly not that bad. just do the little amounts of hmwk he gives you and study the notes and you'll get an a easily. If you are make an effort then he'll help you. Dont try, well then whats the point anyway?
When he is a good mood, he is a cool teacher. But when he is a bad mood, watch out...
He is not a great teacher, who makes you do worksheets and notes all day. He doesnt really seem to know what he is talking about. Hardly no homework but tricky test.
okay teacher. get on his good side! mood swings. stupid activities that dont help. almost no homework but the tests are tricky and hard so that sucks. if you get on his bad side he will call you out of class for no reason at all and will give you a detention for like sneazing. so get on his good side
World History H: He taught decently well, though the class was a bit too big to be really nice and cozy. Tests seem pretty tricky and require quite a bit of studying for. Too many small details! Quite a number of papers, but at least they're short--2 pgs DS. Pretty cool dude, and better than average teacher.
I ask him all the time to help, and he just loves to see kids suffer! Extremely disrespectful to students!
Honestly, he's one of the best teachers I have had at Torrey Pines. His class is exciting (just participate in discussions). It is just the right level of challenge-enough to be rewarding, but it is very easy to get an A if that is your goal!
He's an okay teacher. Pretty moody, too. His class is really boring and really cold. Not a good combination. I find myself nodding off during discussions. I get tired of his "brain explosions" though. Kind of clumsy, trips over things.
I think too many kids at Torrey Pines take AP classes and don't understand that AP means more than a weighted grade. IT'S A COLLEGE CLASS, and that's exactly what Montgomery teaches. Class is discussion and asking questions, just like in college. He has some interesting politics but as long as you're strong in your own beliefs it doesn't affect you. Be respectful and he'll love you.
The class isn't easy, but it's AP. he knows what he's talking about and it very forgiving when grading tests
He is VERY understanding when people need help and when there are special circumstances. He is very friendly and his class is allot of fun. It is allot of work, but it is still a fun and worthwile class.
meh, he's an okay guy. his class is sooo boring, and he does have favorites. and he's OBSESSED with his dog. has MAJOR moodswings. he's cool though.
Not a good teacher. Class isn't enjoyable by any means and he plays favorites and there is no lesson plan to speak of
He is sooo boaring!!!!!!!! All he does is power point presentations.
plays favorites. trys way too hard to be funny. mean.
a cool guy but really moody and gives favorites a lot of advantages
Dude, mr. monty is the coolest teacher ever! he is def. my favorite this year cuz he's hilareous. love ya monty!
monty is a cool teacher a bit tempermental but hes pretty cool overall.
Dude, whats up with him calling people who he knows doesn't know the answer. Also, the amount of homework given is just way too much.
I'd say Mr. Monty is pretty cool, but he puts alot of pressure on you when calling the class. Also he gives alotta hw. But he teaches well.
very nice guy if you give him respect...the class isn't hard if you apply yourself
He's OK...just not as cool or funny as Mr. Trupe (although he thinks he's funny). The whole "cheese" and "ruler of the world" things didn't quite click with me. He's kind of a dodo, but overall nice guy. Also, Mind Trap was a fun game
I like Mr. Monty a lot as a person but his teaching style leaves something to be desired.
Kool guy but way tooo much hw and way too hard tests
super hard classes, too much hw, but pretty funny guy
very clear with directions, but lectures are just repetition of the previous nights reading and can be boring. CE's are fun to discuss though.
