I was her student when Mrs. Tobison was Mrs. Kozel way back when. She was always the absolute tops. I saw her work magic with a group of kids who had never sung before. She was incredibly demanding of her students, but this also applied to herself. She expected the same dedication from her students that she put into her work. I never saw the monster or bully some reviewers imply. Work hard & you are rewarded - screw off & you see her bad side. Mrs. T is a musical genius-watch her at the piano!
Nancie Tobison is an incredible teacher. She may be terrifying but that is because she is 100% honest 100% of the time and she gets the job done. She has inspired hundreds of students and will continue to do so even if she is no longer a teacher at BHS. Her class was not something to joke around with. It was difficult and incredibly serious, and even so it was a great class and I will forever be grateful to Mrs. Tobison for providing me and countless other students with an amazing experience.
She can be intense but she really knows her stuff. I've learned a lot from her. Also, she has really interesting stories. Don't slack off in this class though; it won't fly with her. As long as you're willing to actually take choir seriously she is a fantastic teacher.
Nancie Tobison is one hell of a woman. She's tough, but I have an insane amount of respect for her. Yeah she's a little crazy and plays favorites, but damn. She produces amazing results.
I am very surprised that the Art Department of Barrington High School is still tolerating Nancy Tobison as a teacher. I am very much surprise that the school that has classes/trainings about bullying closes eyes when the teacher is bullying the students. Why this double standard still goes on? How many students will be hurt emotionally so that BHS Art Department gets the recognition....
She is a genius but is terrible with the kids. She verbally abuses them in front of the entire class and wonders why she doesn't get the respect she wants. She holds her power over the children and asks them to do things outside of school that are not school related. She doesn't give everyone a fair chance. Some soloists are soooooo offkey but she continues to use them in every concert and doesn't use the members who have great potential because they aren't her favorite.
yeah she's crazy. But this lady gets the job done. I don't always like her, but I ALWAYS respect her.
She is honestly one of my favorite teachers because she knows her field very well and she produces great shows and musicians. One thing I don't like about her is that she puts you on the spot a whole lot and if, when she puts you on the spot and you mess up, she puts you down and discourages you. She also expects you to either know a lot coming into class or learn quickly without her fully explaining things. Most kids in my class need a tutor because she doesn't fully explain things.
Call it brown nosing but I really appreciate Ms. Tobison. She knows what she is talking about. She's an incredible musician who manages to pull together hundreds of squirrelly high school students, like myself, to produce an incredible musical experience in both the choral concerts, and musicals. Sounds dumb, but if one appreciates music, you would understand. Yes, she can be tough, but you can understand why because it is necessary at most times. I just wish more people recognized this.
Mrs. Tobison is a bully and should not be working with such impressionable kids. She has no respect for the emotional damage she does to the student and should not be anywhere near students that are doing something that they love and not required by the school. Without the students she would be jobless. Barrington High School should be ashamed for allowing this mentally abusive instructor to be involved in any program that molds our future.
She is verbally and emotionally abusive and bullies students. Why on earth is she still teaching?
Tobison produces some of the best high school choirs in the country. The ends don't justify the means though. She emotionally abuses and manipulates students. In front of parents, she's a saint. In cl
Been new to choir this year and all i can say is i couldn't stand the atmosphere of this class at first I didn't feel like i belonged so it takes awhile to get used to the different kinds of ppl (some
Nancie Tobison is careful. Often she reveals insights, makes the job look easy, and understands spontaneity's genius.
she is a mixed person. i thought she was nice but she does pick favorites. I enjoy choir but she can be a bit disrespectful to you.
I've learned so much from her, but beware because she teaches through intimidation. She is an amazing musician, but she doesn't always treat people respectfully. I've had awesome experiences in choir!
she often plays favorites to people that may not necessarily deserve it.
Brillant, just follow her rules wich is not talking and paying attention If you do then you are fine plus she loves to take out of country trips so be good. Also a word of advice no gum she hates it.
aw i love mrs tobison! she's such a great teacher and is always looking out for her students and letting them talk to her about their lives....it'll be sad when she leaves next year
mrs. tobison is awesome!! she offers soo many opportunities to get involved with choir! choir rules!!!
Not cool. I only lasted a week in choir. Seriously, if the song is in 3, don't conduct it in 4.
She nice if get on her good side! Also it takes her a while to warm up to people
