I love Dr. Acio! He has the best stories, and if you read the textbook, do practice problems, and study for his tests, his class isn't as awful as everyone makes it out to be. Honestly Dr. Acio is amazing bromar for life
Pretty cool guy, had him for summer chem. Acid/base and Quantum tests are NOT that hard if you know the material. People just blow it b/c they they don't learn it properly!
Dr. Acio is one of the best teachers I've had at TJ. He knows EVERYTHING about chem (and more) and his classes are always very fun and engaging. If you're in his Chem 1 class, he prepares you REALLY well for AP (uses the same notes).
Best teacher I've ever had. Really knows what he's doing and can answer any question you ask him. He inspired me to pursue chemical engineering and forensic science. He's retiring at the end of the 2014-15 school year, so those of you who have him are really lucky. Thank you, Dr. Acio!
You're screwed. Study everything known to mankind.
the sign in his room says "men play football ; INTELLIGENT men play SOCCER". Dr Acio plays soccer , therefore Dr Acio MUST BE intelligent . hope i'm on the right track.
very knowledgeable does not even do him justice..He isCHEMISTRY...nuff said !!! now go study your chem notes! !!
he's sooo hard but worth every nanny second .some call him Da Beast...the Chem Pro
Dr Acio is AWESOME , btw someone told me he was a hula teacher in Hawaii before coming to Jefferson to teach Chemistry . OMG ,Ya jus neva know who trolls between the desks. keep it real bros...
Dr Mom's CHEM class is the coolest but this summer and next year he will teach Chem 1 in French ;something about integrating foreign language and science .COOL idea, oui ?
rumor has it that his genealogy traces a connection to Lavoisier and Raymond Le Page..no wonder he is so good at chem..It's in his Jeans
Dr Acio was featured in the film " Endless Summer" about surfers looking for the perfect wave. Knocked a shark in the nose as he HUNG TEN.He analyzes water composition b4 he takes his board out.Now that's SERIOUS surfing for you !!!
The DOC knows Chemistry like Messi knows soccer. If you don't know who Messi is , then LOOK IT UP and Go study your Chem notes ...cz the troll icon a roll.........4 1/2 outta 5
Dr Acio is The best...just love it when he hands out tests and sings Queen's ''' ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST''. Plus he knows his chem.................41/2.......................outta .............5......
Great person, really funny. If you can, build a good relationship with him. He's also a good teacher and explains concepts and actually TEACHES unlike 99% of "teachers" at TJ. His tests are challenging. I always thought I understood all the material and still ended up doing poorly on tests. His tests are conceptual, so try to be certain that you really understand the concepts. Overall, he's
Great teacher but difficult tests. He gives you a great foundation for chemistry if you go on to take AP.
Absolutely love him and his sense of humor, best chemistry teacher ever!!
This class is really hard but you can do well if you work hard.
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST CHEM TEACHER EVER!!! I enjoy every second of his class. however, he is really tough and the tests are HORRENDOUS! He prepares you well for the AP exam though.
Very, very good teacher. Explains everything everything and associates Chemistry with the real world. However, his tests are EXTREMELY difficult. He teaches AP material in his regular Chemistry class. However, he doesn't give too much homework, has a decent amount of extra credit, and has various other assignments (lab reports, homework, projects, etc..) that are easy 100s and can boost your grade
Although his class is challenging it is not very hard to get an A due to his excellent teaching. Chemistry in college was really easy because I had already learned everything from Dr. Acio
Love himmm. He relates chemistry to real life, which makes it more interesting than a regular chem class. He's a hard teacher and gives few exceptions, but he's a very smart person and can really make you love the subject.
Dr. Acio is definately the best chem teacher at TJ. His lectures are very engaging, and he often makes lots of jokes. His tests are pretty hard, but he doesn't give as much work as Jones. Grading is straightforward.
fairly challenging teacher, but i'd want to be his best friend in another life
Not an easy teacher, certainly not for summer chemistry, but he will make you LOVE chem more than any other class. He knows almost everything there is to know about physics, biology, and especially chemistry. Don't miss the lectures because you can learn so much in them that will prepare you for college and AP Chem.
hard teacher, but teaches well. His lectures are hilarious and amazing. u can get at least a 4 on the ap chem exam even if u take regular chemistry with him. the only issue is that he thinks highly of himself and treats everyone as geniuses. he refuses to admit he's wrong (even if he is) and is very unapproachable. he won't answer any of the questions i had (even though it was summer chem)
too bad there isn't a ">9000" rating. oh well. but then again, if he doesn't like you, you'll find yourself a 1111 rating. can't promise an easy class with him at all though
hard teacher and sometimes seem unapproachable especially if you want to ask a dumb question :P
awesome teacher. he knows what he's teaching. however, he thinks very highly of himself and won't admit he's wrong (even if he is). plus, he treats the class as if they're geniuses. if a person asks him a basic question, he won't answer it. the class is also hard.
when discussions get out of hand he gets a little fuzzy lecturing... but an awesome teacher.
Dr. Acio really made a big difference in my decision to pursue a career in physical science. I wish there are more teachers like him. He really cares about his students and advices his students in making the right decisions. Cool guy.
pretty cool guy and he knows his stuff, but his tests are insane and his lessons are incomprehensible. he gives lots of EC to make up for his challenging class so you can sleep through all the lectures (most people do) and still get an A
SUCH A BEAST! His class is legit my favorite; he makes chem so much fun and so easy to understand. Tests are fine if you study the lecture notes and pace yourself. Do the extra credit!!!
Tests are too hard, expects you to understand concepts the first time, has trouble understanding questions, nice guy but not as good as his reputation makes him seem
He's very relaxed and knows his stuff. Homework and labs are tricky, and tests are even trickier. Still he's a cool guy, teaches well, and gives a LOT of extra credit.
Does not test students on what he taught. On tests, focuses on things that he talked about for 5 seconds but not something that he did for a whole class. He was rude, but he answered questions well.
It's easy to fall asleep during his lectures, but he gets students involved in chemistry like no other teacher I've seen.
Coolest teacher EVER! He'll forever be my best and favorite teacher. You'll never find anyone like him. His stories are AMAZING!Almost everyday after school, I used to go to his room to ask questions.
what a beast. he is so cool, and teaches chem really well. his tests are hard during summer chem, but the curves are nice...I THREW A CURVEBALL!!!
Coolest chem teacher ever. He answers so many questions and makes hard things look easy for us. Overall, he is one of the best teachers.
He makes AP Chem fun. HW's/test can be rough, but there is plenty of extra credit to make up. He sometimes doesn't understand questions well, but he is willing to help a student until they understand
He's certainly got a way to make u love class.Even kids who r failing enjoy class, and he definetly has a way to motivate just about anyone! i guess u really have to be in his class to see how awesome he is.
He definitely knows his stuff. I enjoy his chem class this year & I'm not even a science/math person. He has a way of motivating you to get into science. I'm thinking of taking AP next year with him.
personally i think dr acio is overrated...his class is almost a repeat of chem 1, the lectures often boring, people say he's too hard but the tests are ok and there's frequent extra credit
This class was really hard for me b/c I don't have a good study or work ethic, but it got me involved in science in a way no other teacher has been able to.
he totally has his priorities straight as a teacher. such a cool guy. his tests are pretty hard. i think i got like 2 A's on tests all year but i still got an A for the year with EC.
Lectures well, yet it's easy to fall asleep. Murderous tests. Do absolutely everything you can to get help in this class. Very hard. Interesting stories, if that makes or breaks a teacher for you.
Absolutely awesome. I'm not a big science person, but I loved his chemistry class. Very relaxed - if you don't pay attention, that's your problem, he won't make you listen. Hard tests, but worth it.
Mr Acio is the BEST at whatever he does, being a student of his AND being coached by him (soccer, Mackin HS 1982) has enriched my life two-fold. GO GO ACIO !!!!!!!!
Dr. Acio is an excellent teacher. Some people thinks that he doesn't teach enough and is much too relaxed. This is not true. He forces you to learn on your own. He goes over the bare bones during clas
Easily one of the best teachers that I've ever had. With him, Chem actually MAKES SENSE. Fantastic sense of humor, plays classic rock during labs, lets you email forgotten homework. Totally awesome.
Great teacher and really TEACHES you something! I'm learning a lot in his class
Dr. Acio is one of the coolest teachers I've had. He keeps you entertained and you learn a whole lot. Expect to learn more than just basic chem.
He's a great teacher, if you do what he tells you and write down what he shows you, you will do well.
He's a great teacher and you definitely learn a lot, even if you're not into Chem. Very hard tests, but if you study well then you'll do fine. He's NOT understanding at all, though, so don't slip up.
good teacher. interesting classs...beware of hard tests but comes with the terra
Very good teacher, tests are decently hard, most people failed the first one but he curved it. Just learn how to take his tests and you will be fine. (And learn a lot)
Dr. Acio is a great guy...his tests aren't too bad if you study for them. Lots of EC. Also, for some reason people in his class always fail the ACS made exams...but rock the APs/SATs. He helped me get a 5! Get him for AP, the class isn't too terribly hard.
I had him over the summer, so it may be different during the year. His classes are really hard, but he teaches really well. His tests are also hard. Do practice problems and pay attention to the vocab/wording.
An amazing teacher for AP or regular chem. I was lucky enough to have him for Summer Chem and AP the next year. His tests are hard, but he gives so many assignments with easy points and brainteasers for extra credit that it compensates. Make sure you do all the work on your own, otherwise you will be screwed (and yes, that is in his own words)
really funny and has great stories to tell! not necessarily the easiest or best teacher, but out-of-class help is available if you are willing to put the extra effort in it: he doesnt usually clarify things during class. I recommend him for Chemistry 1 but not for AP Chemistry... i had him for both.
Although I had some trouble, I got used to his style at the end of the year. He's a great teacher and his tests are challenging!!! But you learn soooo much more with him.
I was in his summer chem class, and everything he explained made sense the first time he said it. The tests are hard, though.. it's a good thing the tests are curved
Had him for summer chem. He taught all the hard topics, so they were confusing, but he was very clear and willing to answer questions. He can be insensitive sometimes, and his tests are impossible. Good luck getting a B on a test.
I took AP Chem my sophmore year, and despite it being one of my first AP classes I thought it wasn't too hard. It is absolutely necessary to pay attention to his lectures, understand how to do the homework (even if your partner does it), and read the corresponding chapters more than one day before the test. If you do those three things, chem will be easy. In his lectures he sometimes stresses things that hardly show up on the tests, so make sure you study everything to some capacity.
best teacher in the school. Clear, knowledgeable, patient answereing questions, hard test but makes learning exciting
ok, so I should not have waited until senior year to take ap chem...but, when did a chapter test become harder/more time consuming/ more stressful than all my other midterms?
not doing too well in chem but it's an okay class overall. acio is funny
HARD...but good teacher. Pay attention to the slide shows. I've never had to study sooo much. Tell him to talk to the class about Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
oh man...i LOVE dr acio! hes so awesome...i had him for chem 1 and now AP chem! i feel like i learn so much in his class while still having tons of fun :]!!
He is pretty hard, and sometimes a little unclear, but he loves his subject matter, and can tell you anything about it. He is also a really fun teacher, if you ignore how hard his tests are.
You HAVE to study for the tests, but the extra credit really helps. You also really learn and understand the material; best chem teacher at TJ.
