I definitely dislike Mrs. Porterfield. She doesn't understand that her class is not the only one with homework; homework plus skill maintenance takes up a LOT of time. She has extreme favoritism. She also recently gave almost my whole class a math reminder for doing poorly on a quiz, which is flat out stupid. To make matters worse, each math reminder is 225 basic multiplication problems!? Also, she often refuses to answer questions, because "you should have been paying attention"
She was ok. I didn't really like the 7 hours of homework she gave for Honors Math 7th grade. I used to be up doing 10 pages of homework from both textbooks and it gave me a lot of stress. She also gave skill maintenance, and some of the problems were too hard for our level math. She also favors a lot of students. I saw it before my own eyes, and she gave this kid points when his work wasn't there and she would take off those points for any other student. I don't really recommend her class.
My only suggestion would be LESS H.W.!!!!! Her class would also benefit from having easier homework and tests.
She was extremely supportive and urged me forward. I was originally supposed to go to an easier class, it was really hard at first, but her lessons were thorough and i could understand them even though i was behind. So as the year progressed i found grades rising and the homework taking less time. She took time to make sure you knew how things worked and not just why things worked.
Since she was new when I had her, her classes were riduclous, but as the year went on she got better and is now a favorite teacher of mine.
Hard homework, especially skill maintenance but nice, fun, will help you in you need it
