I graduated a long time ago and eventually ended up being fluent in French, no thanks to this woman. We had a mutual enmity originating from the fact that she knows almost nothing about the language she teaches (taught?), but was somehow the only teacher with an AP license. Impossible to avoid her since she teaches so many levels, so do yourself a favor if you really like French and study it on your own. She made constant mistakes with a great deal of confidence—the worst kind of teacher.
She usually knows what she's talking about, but she definitely picks favorites. I learned a lot from her class, but it was mostly from me stressing about her tests and then studying a lot. She didn't teach very well and left us on our own when it came to learning topics. When I asked for help in a subject, she told me to go to the department tutoring session on a day when I couldn't make it (which I made clear to her) and then just left me without any guidance. She's not awful, but not great.
I've maintained an A through all of my previous french classes (6 years worth) but she's consistently given me bad grades. Maybe that's my fault but her grading is ridiculous and she tests us on things we haven't learned. Her accent (even for somebody who isnt a native speaker) is pretty bad which makes it harder for the listening comprehension she uses for tests. Terrible at explaining things, gets annoyed at kids who ask questions, and then gets more annoyed when kids make mistakes. Awful.
She refuses to admit that she is wrong. Whenever I have her, my grade drops way below my average. If you answer incorrectly, she laughs at you and pokes fun at your pronunciation. She often makes her test and quiz questions confusing, but when you ask her to explain, she will not give you points back, even if the statement you are making is completely valid.
She reads straight out of the textbook and laughs at wrong answers. She never answers the questions and questions kids who don't understand the lesson. Most of us. Expects is to be able to understand French from a fluent speaker after 3 months
Her tests are often on things we haven't learned and she doesn't like to admit her mistakes. I enjoy her class parfois, but sometimes everyone is utterly lost and she makes fun of kids who aren't good at french.
we didn't write the questions for a homework assignment in our textbook and she gave us a 20-minute lecture about how lazy and useless we are? i've barely learned anythibg, and even fluent french speakers are failing her class. coughcoughitsasign
Her tests are impossible because they're on all the French we've ever learned instead of just what we're supposed to be studying for the test. She doesn't help in class and we hardly learn the material. Also, she often makes French mistakes that even many of the students catch. Not to mention she gets offended when people do badly in her class...
Ms. Lewis gets a worse rep than she deserves: you can tell she cares about her classes and she's a much nicer person than these reviews would have you believe. Her tests often have rather vague questions and grading is pretty rigid, but if something is genuinely unfair, she usually recognizes it and corrects it the next day (this a not a practice embraced by the Global department). Her classes are interesting and her teaching format is conducive to learning, as opposed to memorizing.
She is very unhelpful! :( We are crawling at a snail's pace through the textbook, and usually we spend the entire period reviewing the homework and answering random questions that turn up. You have to guess what is going to be on the test and you learn a lot of the grammar bits from getting them wrong on quizzes!
i mean i won't go into depth but she picks on shy people and laughs at people when they get the answer wrong...:/
sometimes she puts things on tests we didnt really learn, and then claims we learned it.
She's not a very good teacher. She gives stupid projects and random vocabulary and then tests us on a ton of vocabulary.
She makes us do useless and time consuming projects instead of actually teaching us new material
Asking her to explain the subjunctive is like trying to build the parthenon out of jello while reading directions entirely in Swedish. She gets angry when people are too confused or too curious, making her classroom environment stale and frustrating. She grades unfairly and she should not be responsible for preparing students for the AP exam when she is clearly not a competent teacher for even the elementary levels.
She is legitimately the worst teacher I have ever met. All of her AP students, as well as lower students HATE her.
She is the worst teacher i have ever seen. she mispronounces everything and cant even explain things if you dont understand. I hate her because she goes over unnecessary things. she is not even french
She's the kind of teacher that picks her least favorites based on one offense, and then wont give you another chance, y'know? For a while in 7th I thought I was learning a lot though, until I came into 8th and discovered that we were an entire unit behind and, as a result, did very poorly on the first test which was supposed to be a review test, but we hadn't learned half of the information. i dont particularly like her ><
nice & reasonable. slow, but is that really a bad thing?
I guess she could be good for 7th graders who don't know the language, but her AP class is SO disappointing and I'm afraid I'm not going to well on the AP because of her. TOO MANY stupid projects in class, and she doesn't know enough to explain the reasoning behind any conjugations or other grammar questions. Ridiculous. She's nice though, I guess.
She's a really good teacher, it's just that she goes really slowly, which is great for me, since my mind processes slowly.
ms lewis is a pretty nice teacher. she gives a lot of quizzes and there's a lot of stress placed on improvisation and speaking skills. makes lame jokes, but she is really nice and helpful.
i think that ms. lewis has good intentions, but the way she grades our tests is somewhat unfair. i also think that she overdoes her explanations and often drifts herself away from the subject at hand. because i've gotten straight a's in her class since 7th grade, i think she's a pretty good teacher. thank you for writing me that recommendation letter =)
She goes slowly sometimes and she does WAAY too much of the creative activity stuff...plus, in a big class if one person doesn't get something she makes us all sit through a long-winded explanation. But if you don't get something she's really good about sitting and helping after class, and she does break things down really clearly. Lame as her jokes are, they do brighten the day. Good overall.
we are so far behind the other classes, yet she insists on us writing poems and skits and doing a bunch of other projects in class. she also goes really slowly, so you end up forgetting a bunch of stuff by the time you get the test. she isn't too awful, but still pretty bad.
i'm sry, i hate her. she goes out of her way 2 be annoying, and when u know something and she doesn't she's like, "well, we'll just have to agree to disagree". SUCH A BAD TEACHER!!
omg, her tests are soo unfair!! she tells us what is going to be on the test, then goes and puts something completely different!! She thinks that we are dumb, not that shes unfair
Hard tests...an ok teacher but i hate french you people who took spanish are sooo much better off.
She needs to think of the advanced students as well as the new ones. Going back and forth with something that is really easy REALLY bothers me.
She's okay I guess...she's not mean at all and tries her best to put up with slow learners, but sometimes she talks in french too much and it's confusing.
she was surprised when we told her that we WOULDN'T be joining her for AP Chem in 11th grade haha
She taught us how to say spank, but she skipped over a lot of chapters in the book. I didn't like her at all.
i dont like her, but she did give me a good grade. she teaches a lot of unnecessary vocabulary and doesnt know all of the french language.
I had Madame Blue and Lewis. In the beginning, I felt that one learns a lot more from Madame Blue. But Madame Lewis is really helpful, nice, and tries her best.
she's ok...not the best, but ok. but all those skits...so annoying.
Not a good teacher, kind of condescending. Do a lot of studying on your own if you have her, and you can still do okay in her class.
I don't hate her I don't like her. shes an ok teacher
She's a lovely person. Seriously. The problem with AP French isn't her -- it's the fact that she has to teach us a TON of vocab and grammar in one year.
Couldn't control class well - learned so much more from ms Blue and mr Ling (plus theyre both more fun)
You have to speak French all the time in class; there's no other way to do it. French IV is just a horrible class in itself, but Ms. Lewis is a sweetheart.
No one who taught themselves French and speaks it so badly should be allowed to TRY to pass it on to others.
yo she is hangin' in the grove yo yo. You not cool to be haten.
She's nice, and tries to be cool <_< >_>, but she's a good teacher. I may not be fond of ALL the skits we do, but they're necessary.
Um.. I guess she's okay, but sometimes.. by talking in french all the time.. i get confused
i hate ms lewis, she's not mean or anything but...ugg. i like ms blue better too, she was a better teacher.
Hm. She's okay. I think I like Ms. Blue better though. Scary I kno. But she's a better teacher than her...
