She will speak to even her AP classes as if they are toddlers. It is very condescending. Also if you do not do all of her "optional" steps to research then she will come down hard on your paper. I got an A on my first paper when I did all the steps, then next paper I didn't and I got an F. It seems that she gets personally offended from not doing her optional work. She will snap randomly at her classes resulting in little tantrums and is honestly rude. Took all of the style out of my writing.
I truly love and respect Patricia Carman. She is extremely helpful and it seems like she cares about all of her students. However, Patricia Carman will show no mercy if you do not follow her instructions EXACTLY. Often writing FIP (Follow Instructions Please) on your paper if something is wrong. This will result in a score of 10% on the assignment. This can happen on every assingment and Patricia Carman is no stranger to doing this on final research papers (worth 20% of your final grade).
Absolutely hated this woman, but she does know what she's doing. You will definitely learn something, but definitely won't like it. She'll play good cop, bad cop, and getting an A is essentially impossible. You will have a lot of work, a lot of stress, and little success. Good luck, and I'm sorry for your loss.
Good teacher. Knows what she's doing. Perhaps some quizes or tests over basic rhetorical strategies and vocab would be helpful at the beginning of the year.
Mrs. Carman is the best teacher I have ever had. I am in her class right now and I have already learned so much. At first you will think her class is impossible but once you learn how she grades and how her class goes, you will absolutely love her class. She is the nicest and funniest woman I have met. Work hard and care about your assignments and you will do great. I can't say enough things about her!
You will fail your first paper. Whether because of grammar mistakes or lack of development, you won't do well at first. But at the end of the year when you make an A on the paper you worked so hard for, it's all worth it. You'll bounce between loving and hating her class, but itll make you a better writer and love English
Mrs. Carman's college prep English class will be the hardest class you will ever take in your life. She is an amazing teacher and she will beat respect and correct grammar into your head by the time you leave her class. TAKE THE CLASS!
Only had ms carman for special events like tests and stuff, she's a great lady and always has a smile on her face. She is the kind of teacher parents hope they send their kids to school to be taught by each and everyday
Oh Mrs Carman. shes an AMAZING teacher, very strict, but i learned soooo much in her class. Im so thankful to have had her as my teacher. best of luck to anyone who gets her their junior year, its a challenge but you can make it.
awsome class. I learned alot. If u have her for ap, then definitely come prepared to do alot of studying and to put alot of effort into your writing (Gramar needs to perfect).
Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.
Okay, so maybe it's not that bad, but Ms.Carman's class will be the hardest class you take in high school. However, she will beat grammar into so well that it will never leave, I can attest to that.
I am now a University student, and I managed to type a five paged research paper in a little over a hour and scored a 90. I thank Ms.Carman for this ability.
Still...good luck, you'll need it.
Mrs. Carman's class will be without a doubt, the hardest the class you'll ever have during high school. She picks favorites immediately. Strive to be one of them..you'll end up with a nice grade.
Mrs. Carman's class is absolutely amazing! She genuinely teaches her class and doesn't let anything slide. Her class with help with college essays and future writing!
you hate, loathe, despise her the first year, then in the second year (if you've survived) you love her and feel almost indebted because you've learned the art of writing!
Ms. Carman taught me how to write; I feel indebted to her, even if it took a few poor grades on papers to get to this point! Her perfect manners and expectations led the students to a higher level of activity and thought. Wonderful!!
This class is too subjective. She only likes certain people and if you're not one of them - well you might as well expect a lower grade. She may be a good teacher for the AP exam, but I feel she has deteriorated my writing and taught me nothing.
Already love the class. I even passed summer reading! Scratch that! ACED summer reading!
This class is the most difficult I have ever had. There is a lot of work involved, and she is strict. However, I have learned a great deal from this course. I look at my old writing a see how much I have improved. If you have any trouble with a paper or another assignment, Mrs. Carman is always willing to help you after or before school. I strongly recommend taking this class.
Definitely prepared me for college and the AP test (got a 5). She's fair and very dedicated to teaching. She expects respect from her students but shows them the same respect.
You will never make another comma splice in your life if you take this class. Additionaly, you will gain a new paranoia for yawning.
She's amazing. She's the best English teacher I've ever had
A bit intimidating at first, but I really love her class now. I feel well-prepared for the AP test.
Carman is so great! Her AP class was awesome. . . she taught me so much about English, and its turned out to be majorly helpful in college + i got a 4 on APExam
