I will describe Patty O'Gavigan the best way I know how, by tellingyou his jokes. "Caesar? I don't even know her?" "They call it the Battle of Tours, because after the battle, you take a tour." Although one time, he did start crying in front of the entire class for some reason.
I am frankly amazed at how much Mr Gavigan knows about history. He has a great way of explaining things, and I love watching him lecture. He can get a bit lazy and disorganized, and has a problem putting in grades. Once, he went 2 and a half months without putting grades in. Also, he only grades things with a scantron FYI. All together, he's pretty good but has room for improvement.
I had him as a teacher last year and boy I cant tell you how much I miss WHAP with Gavigan. the 5's I gave him are no joke he honestly is the single best teacher I have ever had. He knows his stuff he is always willing to help you and he is entertaining he makes history fun!!! When he lectures its incredible I cant think of a time I enjoyed school more than in his class. Really sit in front listen and you will actually feel history come alive,he is truly excellent.
When Mr. Gavigan gives an in-class lecture or teaches a lesson he is quite possibly the greatest teacher I have ever had. Unfortunately, that does not happen nearly often enough. I appreciated in the beginning of the year the effort to mix group work and individual assignments (debates, presentations, etc.) in with the lessons to make things more interesting, however it is unacceptable that he relies on these for teaching. He has a high rating from me because he is good but he must try harder
"The big so what is that pope went around flexing his muscles, and setting up shop here and there..."
So lazy. He never does any work. He doesn't bother to grade anything besides scantrons, and puts no effort into the class. He's a nice guy, and seems to like teaching, but he isn't willing to give up
Do not do any of his homework, he doesn't grade it. I didn't do any assignments and my homework grade was consistently B .
Gav's really funny although mostly because his jokes are normally so awful. I can't say I enjoy the class because I don't like history. He doesn't give back a lot of work that you hand in.
Terrific guy, always very upbeat, he does not prepare his students very well for the AP, however, he is very open, and if you are prepared to ask questions, he really knows his stuff.
funny person, but only got back like three tests the entire year. but aced it anyway cuz of him (history is not a strong point of mine)
Corniest jokes in the world and most overused. Still, a better teacher than I had given him credit for. He wants his students to learn and wants to help if they don't understand. Good guy.
Gavigan is the best overall teacher at nyack, his no funny buisness attitude, mixed with having a good time, keeps the classroom relaxed and a fun place to learn. If you do your work and listen you will learn a lot and ace the regents.
Gav is a great guy. He has great jokes. He was always on a bagel..I mean roll...whenever he was teaching. He was very helpful which allowed everyone to do well.
