One of my favorite teachers at TJ. His class is tough but prepares you well. Tough love. To this day, he is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had.
You can do one of three things: do the readings (if you can find the time), cram before class (read the abstract and ask your friends to summarize), or listen during the discussion. You'll get through it. DC teaches you so much more than just to read scientific literature - he teaches you about life and how to become a better person.
I was in his Neuro class. He doesn't lecture but instead has the students lead discussions on articles. It'll take a while to read the articles, but his class is SO worth it. Really cool guy... cares about his students and will teach you how to speak up in discussions.
One of the best teachers I've ever been fortunate enough to have. Don't expect things to be easy. I really learned how to figure things out for myself/communicate my ideas to others by taking his class.
Neuro was definitely one of the most rewarding classes I have ever taken! DC is amazing!
Had him for AP & neuro. B-AP A-neuro. Doesnt believe in APs & class reflects it. discussion-based class worked for me & changed my thinking for the better. Would take any class he teaches.
maybe not the best teacher but you'll still learn a ton from his class. i enjoyed every day of ap bio last year and every day of neuro this year. if you need someone to talk to hes always there.
I had him for both AP Bio and Neurobio. Doesn't teach Neuro, but he doesn't have to. Lectures are rare in AP Bio, but when he does they're fantastic. Don't take him if you don't like bio. Great guy.
Although his AP Bio class is very difficult, he's a really great guy and he really makes the class worthwhile.
Scares kids out of AP bio class by calling people names to get the class smaller. You teach yourself. Same stuff you learned in 8th and 9th grades. TJ needs one good AP bio teacher not 2 bad ones.
had him for neuro bio. class is interesting, but he doesn't believe in teaching:student taught class.
Though he can be inconsiderate at times, he tries hard to forge a relationship with his students. He's not biased--I did terribly in his class but he still loved me. He's connected, good to know.
you either love him or you hate him. i dont see how anyone can hate him though. he is one of the nicest and funniest guys i've ever met. once you get used to it, the workload is really not that bad
he is not helpful, very mean, and shallow. bionano was one of the hardest but most pointless classes i have taken. and he's really loud
Incredibly demanding, but one of the best teachers i've had. if you dont care about learning biology then you might as well drop the class.
Difficult teacher because of the huge amount of material and the amount of comprehension he wants you to have. Quiz and test every week. Take as a sophomore to have time to study. You will learn a lot
how can anyone not like him? he's hilarious, and a good teacher, even though the class works together to teach other. you could have 4 quizzes in one class, but its the best 90 minutes of the day
Anyone who puts in the time can get an A. On the other hand, Dr. C won't/can't teach you. You could just sit at home with the textbook and Nature mag. Obscene amount of homework and insulting.
Very nice man. He doesn't teach, but you definitely learn a lot. Not an easy class, but if you work hard you should be fine.
he's a nice guy-- very understanding (even though he jokes and pretends not to be)... he'll teach you a lot of skills although when it comes to teaching the curriculum he doesnt do anything. at all. so its up to you & your classmates to teach eachother...
he's a good guy.learn a lot in his class. definitely the best bio teacher at TJ. but he plays favourites almost as obvious as Mrs. Conklin does! But you still learn a lot in his class.
teaches more life skills than biology, but you learn bio anyways. appears to play favorites, but actually is very fair. lets you eat in class! dc is someone I would spend time with out of school.
cool guy. usually is very understanding. just has those few things that ruin you each quarter.
DC is up there in my list of best teachers ever, even though i didnt do well in his class i learned a lot from him, in terms of life skills he is probibly the most helpful teacher out there, because of his class i know how to give a good presentation. That being said, hes a hard teacher that takes off a lot for things that dont really have to do with the material like spelling and gramar, two things that im not very good at. Dont transfer out, hes worth the work
He doesn't teach, but you learn a LOT in his class nevertheless and his class style is quite beneficial. I love the articles -- they really enhance your knowledge of biology, even though some of them are tedious to read. The weekend quizzes become regular. As DC says, you don't learn biology in his class, you learn how to be a good student. (And I personally think that yes, you do learn biology as well -- it's a good combination) He's also very quick at responding to your e-mails very quickly.
Yeah, Dr. Cammer doesn't sit there and talk at you like other teachers. But has anyone ever been board in his class? Cammer asks you to think, and helps you to do that. He's easy to approach and trusts the students. No one would dream of cheating in his class whatever people may say (the ones who say people cheat are the ones who don't study and fail). He answers questions that need to be answered, but lets the students lead--that way our questions are answered. A++!!
I've had him 2years. He's a REALLY cool guy, but a lazy teacher. You are well prepared for the ap if you take his class, but HE himself doesn't really help that much. Most of his quizzes are online, which means most people cheat on them. he favors girls a lot. He's actually not that hard if you put in your work time.
Cammer is LAZY. He pretends to give his students "opportunities" to teach with the "class leader" business but really he just doesn't want to teach himself. Don't be fooled by his spiels on independence the man is just LAZY. Very disrespectful, walked out during a girl in my IBET's final presentation to answer the phone. Has pretended on occasion to be asleep during lunch though he was awake.
he needs to understand that everyone cheats in his class and he does nothing about it, which leaves the kids who dont cheat at a disadvantage for the curve
I had DC for IBET and then by chance I got him for AP BIO. I knew he was tough so I was going to switch to Stevens, but I'm glad I didn't. I love him, and he really treats you like a person, not just a student. I consider him a friend, and I go back to see him now and again, though it's been more than 2 years since I've graduated.
Dr. Cammer is the most interesting man I have ever met. And if you don't like him it is because you are stupid and lazy.
Tough class, but a great teacher. Really intriguiing lectures, akes you think. DONT take his AP bio class unless your really interested in the subject. Articles are tough, and lab reports are insane. All in all an awesome experience for frosh, its just too bad he stopped teaching IBET.
He doesn't seem to understand the definition of teaching. You stand in front of the class and you explain the topic. Instead he has his students teach for him while he eats. Although really rude to those he doesn't like, he can be interesting to talk to.
I had DC for freshman bio, and i go back and visit him every once in a while. I'm taking AP bio next year because of him... too bad he doesn't teach frosh anymore
AP Biology is the only class that I'm failing this year.
rarely lectures, unorganized, overuses blackboard, article quizzes aren't always fair, to succeed you have to study and talk a lot in class. good guy, means well
Hard class, but so much fun- easily got a 5 on the AP thanks to him; the classroom discussions are really good.
DC is awesome. I had him for Frosh bio, and he was great. He is really funny, and his class is fun. His class is really hard, but it is worth having him.
Dr. Cammer was the best teacher I've ever had. I had frosh bio and AP bio with him, and I'm going on to be a biotech doublemajor, because of him.
DC is the best! He's pretty hard but if you work then you will do fine and you will learn SO much. You can get used to him and love the class.
he's cool...and nice...but an awful teacher. i had to learn everything on my own/from my friends. all we do in class is listen to music and go off on tangents
Hard but good, don't slack off and class is ok. Kind of annoying how we spend classtime goofing off though, so it pushes work to after class.
He's not so bad once you get used to him. Class get SO much better after AP's.
Has his favorites, and gives unfair grades to ppl depending on how much he likes'em.
he's a cool teacher (music, Dr. Seuss, etc) but his class has a lot of work. You learn a lot though. Just participate in discussions & do your hw!
AWESOME teacher; hard but you really learn. Get him for AP or neuro; he's a lot harder on his freshmen (but they learn the most!)
He's unnecessarily difficult, he makes things harder than they should be. His quizzes try and mess you up. I feel sorry for the deluded people that like him.
DC is a great guy. Demanding at times, but work hard and you'll be ok.
Demanding and difficult, but taught me a LOT about biology and about how to research. Not to mention he's a captivating speaker and very funny.
sings praises of the students who are natural biology geniuses. tells the ones who aren't to leave TJ. sound like a fair, caring teacher to you?
he's a really cool teacher and you learn a lot...but sometimes i SWEAR he takes pleasure in giving us 5 or 6 hours of homework each night.
Dr. Cammer is, undoubtably, the best teacher possible. He's very difficult, but you learn more in his class than anywhere else. He's also a very nice person. <3
I learned more there thanks to articles and discussions then I've learned in most of my college courses. Helps develop good study habits
Dr. Cammer ---> I was afraid of him at first but now I love him! He's great .... really hard and tough but super nice.
pretty cool guy, if youre on his good side... if not... heaven help you. pretty judgemental... just work hard and itll work out. i learned a lot in his class
DC is a really great man.. you've really got to work hard, but he knows what he's doing.
At first, i really disliked him for his articles and homework. But at the end of the year, i realized that he taught me a lot. I really liked Dr. Cammer.
his Class Leaders bring a new meaning to the term "Teacher's Pet." Distributor Of Many Articles.
hahaha its horrible while ur taking it... but afterwards its not soo bad...
I had him for Bio I. Lots of work but I know biology now. Relies too much on online tests and assumes that nobody cheats. Good teacher but expect hours of work!
He had very hard standards but its for our good and he really is the sweetest. I didnt like the class but he was my fav. teacher! =)
Awesome guy. Best teacher, but didn't like the class. He made me learn too much.
One of the hardest classes I've ever taken. DC's a funny guy though, it's cool.
I hated Bio but I loved DC's class. DC is the man. Lotsa hard work but very fun.
Possibly the hardest teacher in the building. But his class is always fun.
He always makes my day! Helped me to grow as a person. Fascinating teacher.
have him this year, love him to death, funny & sensitive and makes me love bio!!
His class is so hard, but it can be fun. He's a cool guy, he'll help you out.
random quizzes, still a democrat lobbyist, final==hard
Absolutely terrifying for the first month but a really cool guy. You WILL work.
Best teacher ever - caring, fun, and you can apply stuff to the real world
The best teacher in the school for those really interested in bio.
Great guy, but be more considerate of kids who get much work in other classes.
Very hard, but probably one of the most worthwhile classes in the school
