People really need to stop complaining about Dr. Kimmel. He is such a fun person, and amazing and funny memories are all I can think of as I'm writing this. I had Dr. Kimmel for Honors Chem, and while the class was hard, I got an A and can officially say Dr. Kimmel is my favorite teacher of ALL TIME. He helped me to develop my love of chemistry, and while he can be blunt and rude to slackers he is a genius and I miss him. If people had just done their work they would have done a lot better.
so basically doc well he is pretty tough especially if u dont understand the concepts quickly. he likes picking on ppl so u hav to be careful and read ahead or he'll make u seem stupid. just study and pay attention. dont ever fall asleep in his class or he'll say something about it. he has rlly good demonstrations better than anyone in the high school its just thats hes harsh and gets very frustrated easily but he is a genius at piano. tho he isnt very good at boosting confidence. class wuz okay
When I reflect on my highschool teachers, he is the worst one. By far. The only teacher to make me cry AND humiliate me in front on the class on the same day, Kimmel fails to understand that some students need further explaining. I advise other students to take care of his handouts, the only positive point in his class and read ahead so you know the answer when he calls on you.
Hmm... Doc Kimmel is a tough teacher. He's very good at what he does. So good, in fact, that he often expects higher of you. Basic concepts are hard to grasp when he introduces them. Get the concepts down in your head with his handouts (very helpful btw), then start to ask questions in class. Be warned that he is a VERY hard grader and will not hesitate to humiliate you in class if you ask a dumb question. MUCH harder than Bio Freshman year, but you'll get through it. Ask him for help if you need, he's smrt
I do not doubt that the doc is a smart man, but he is lacking in several areas as a teacher. He knows his chemistry definitely-- he has a phd in it... but he often forgets that other people do not. He speeds through material often leaving the majority of the class to fend for themselves. He shows blatant favoritism-- if he likes you, your set. If he doesn't, i would be prepared for a year of "getting on your case." And he doesn't know when to let up most of the time. Source: had him for 2 years: honors AP
He is kind of scary. he is a bit strange but reallly funny sometimes. His lectures get boring sometimes but he likes to have fun. He is only annoying and flips out on you during the first quarter but after that, he is cool. he goes really fast though so make sue you can keep up with his pace. make sure you write down and make a list of all of the corny sayings he says. he says things like "this is a sad day in the world of honors chemistry" or "sad sad state of affairs"...hes amazing!
He doesn't know how to speak English, let alone teach. His goal is to scout out the room for people to make fun of during class..lame. Who does he think he is telling students whether or not they will succeed in life? Trust your success to a high school chemistry teacher with a PhD? Accomplished much? Now, that is a "sad state of affairs". Don't take this guy, unless you like to teach yourself chemistry while laughing at the people who can't.
I had Doc K in 1984. He was awesome. I got a Ph.D. in Engineering and am a high school chemistry teacher now. I hope I'm as good as he was back then. I'm sure I won't be teaching as long as him though. God bless him for still putting up with it after all these years.
Does teach concepts very well the first time around. Occasionally rushes through things. Lets students answer and think conceptually...HOWEVER...if you don't get the concept right away, you better brace yourself. i can honestly say that i was one of those students who didn't always learn the concept in 2 seconds like he expects you to. this lack of patience is what puts him in his own "sad state of affairs". btw, forget going for extra help for exactly this reason but DO go to review your tests before schoo
Brilliant guy. Love his "understanding over memorization" philosophy. Class is not that hard if you try.
Doctor K is definitely one of the best teachers of the subject of chemistry. A high school teacher....perhaps not. He can't teach motivation at all, which is crucial in HS.
Doc was awesome! He taught me so much, and although he was intimidating at first, he turned out to be one of the best teachers I've ever had.
I slept. Handed things late & messy. Made jokes when I was awake. Yelled emergency really loud during labs and made him run. Dont do those and u mite do well.
He is one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. He has given me a new interest in chem that will change my life.
He is an OK teacher but he makes everything so hard... he thinks we chem. honors kids can reach and understand the level and speed of his students in AP or Rutg
I didn't have to study at all for the AP test. That's how well I was prepared. If you think Dr. Kimmel is arrogant than meet Mr. Brodman.
Doc prepared me for subsequent chem better than I could have ever asked. He's only tough until you prove you appreciate him
He knows his stuff, but it would be nice if he was less condescending.
Knows his stuff, just can't explain it in plain english. My only 'D' ever.
why is his piano skills better than mine?! maybe i should practice
Had AP chem last year-Doc is amazing. I will never forget him as long as I live.
Had him for two years. Best teacher I've had, or will ever have. -Mark
CONDESCENDING to the majority of his students, harsh grader.
cesium-133 and grease fire...the only things that kept me awake in class
Kimmel is my God. He is funny, helpful, does AMAZING demos. Makes AP chem fun.
I love his teeth, it is cute! and the chalk mark on his face, evens out!
Great teacher and all....but just a bit condescending
Makes class so fun, you don't realize how much you've learned, 'til the AP test.
boring but still a really good teacher, best chem teacher
Amazing teacher and a great role model.. i'll never forget him
the way science class should be. and plus, he's such a funny dude. :)
The best teacher at EBHS. Smart and helpful, yet still entertaining
who else plays piano, blows things up, AND embarrass himself at Faculty Follies&
