I had Mr. Kottke for Trig/Math Analysis. Even though he is not the best at teaching and talks waayy too much during class, I have to say that he cares a lot about his students. he puts a lot of effort into teaching his students, but unfortunately he is just not a good teacher. But GOOD news : his tests are generally pretty easy, and he gives out partner tests- which can either be a good or bad thing.
I'm not one to be super serious when I'm complaining about teachers. It's usually maybe just ranting about a test or something. I've never really hated a teacher before, but Kottke is just too much. I'm fine with non-teaching teachers and all because I can just learn by myself, but his stupid no-calculator rule makes it so that I can't even learn by myself because everything, even the textbook and tutors from youtube, use calculators. Honestly I'm getting really done with him.
He kows alot and hes a smart guy it usually come out to me undestanding half of the sections and watching a youtube video to try and under stand the rest. I honestly learned 1/8 of what we were supposed to and he just.. he sucks and jokes alot. I mean jokes are fun and all but they suck and he cusses alot too.
He is one of the "good" math teachers at Diamond Bar High School. He always teaches and helps students with their questions. He likes to joke a lot and makes his lessons fun. His lessons are easy to understand; the tests are sometimes difficult. I recommend getting this teacher, you will most likely get an A.
When i got my schedule and read his reviews, I thought he wouldn't be as bad and felt bad for him.. HOWEVER, i can totally relate to all the bad reviews saying that he CANT teach. He makes stupid jokes in class and he has a very annoying attitude. When you ask him a qs, he announces out loud to the whole class saying " THATS A GREAT QS!" when you just wanted him to help you quietly. He is also so freaking loud and he claims that his class is "super challenging, demands alot,*continued next post*
Kottke's weird, has a hard time expressing himself, and it can be difficult to learn his lessons. However, he's the hardest working teacher I've ever had. He genuinely tries to help his students though he might fail miserably 9/10 times. Just try.
What is this fool doing?
20 question tests spread out over two days with a group(1000 points) and individual(2000 points) with homework assignments being 100 points each. DO ALL the problems assigned for homework if you want success on tests. Go in during lunch for help!
horrible teacher. He doesn't even check the homework and he picks out all the hard questions that we never went over and puts them on the test just to screw us over. Only 5 students from 5 periods get an a. His tests are worth like 90% of your grade and each one is 10 questions. His simplicity in teaching is only good if you understand things right away. don't waste your time and money on a tutor because it won't help either
Not all teachers are all fun, funny, or exciting. Teachers have their own ways of teaching and that's what makes them teachers. To be honest he's not my favorite or even not my worse. To place him on my scale, he's a great teacher but not for his teaching skills but for his effort. He tries but we still seem to be unsatisfied. In order to enjoy his class it all starts from your effort. Your effort will prove the teacher that they are actually impacting a life and that everyone feels good about
Oh, Kottke. Kottke Kottke Kottke. I can't believe I survived a whole year in his class for Trigonometry. I, and all the other fellow Kottke students, deserve a pat on the back for having to put up with this incompetent teacher. Now, coming from a completely impartial student, I really mean it when I say he's incompetent. He's known around the school as 'the' teacher that can't teach. I tried to give him a chance the first week of school but boy did he live up to his bad rep. (cont in nxt post)
this fool might as well teach a brick maybe it will learn more than i did
He's known on campus as THE teacher that can't teach. Students claim that reading the book or even YouTube is more helpful than his lessons.
I first amused myself on the first day thinking he couldnt possibly be AS bad as what i previously read on here. I however am sadly mistaken. His very poor teaching style does not even allow the students to take down "notes" as what he shows during class cannot even be described as such. He moves too fast and tries to teach while everyone is busy writing so no one is catching what he says.
Asked him how to do a problem, he didn't know and had to check the solutions. Worst. teacher. ever.
He is the worst teacher I've ever had in my life. He doesn't know how to do his own problems, and once taught us the wrong lesson. Students are constantly correcting him. I don't usually like to hate on teachers, but he really was that bad. I'm not exaggerating.
You need to study independently well. Pay attention in class, and take good notes. Never bs on your work if you want an A. Don't cram the night before test days, but take advantage of his review days.
He's a nice guy and all, but to be honest, his teaching skills could use a brush-up- he doesn't teach you very well, and his notes are (to be blunt) next to worthless. I just get home and use the book
Might be the worst teacher ever!!!!!!!!!!!! He doesnt teach you how to do the homework, but when you ask questions, he doesnt help very much!
his class is not too hard, but he cant teach, he tries hard to help you but can be very unclear. one of the nicest teachers though
Bit of a spazoid. Got my first D in this class. Invest in a tutor. That's the only way you'll survive.
wost math teacher i've ever had. does examples wrong on the board! doesn't know how to do what he teaches and fails his students for making the mistakes he makes.
lol he is sooooo weird (maybe cuz he was struck by lighting) but his class is hard. You have to study every chapter or ur doomed. But he is soo much better then chu. he can actually do trig problems
I really didnt learn a thing in his class. He is by far the worst teacher i have ever had. His students are always correcting his mistakes. He gave me my first C ever in my life in my senior year.
He's a cool guy, but is a very terrible math teacher. He teaches as if he assumes that you already know the subject and even if no one in the class understands the material, he will give you a test
how did he become a teacher? honestly examples STRAIGHT out of the book... students are always correcting him not nice.
He's a nice person overall, but really can't teach that well. People often cheat in his class, but he doesn't seem notice.
Mr Kottke is a nice guy man. I had him for ap comp sci. yeah he doesnt really teach much, bu the assignments and readings plus a little bit of Princeton Review workbook got me a 4.
Mr Kottke's a really down to earth guy. I really liked him for comp sci, even though he took four weeks for a letter of rec...Otherwise, cool teacher who likes what he teaches
Hes the best!!! He got struck by lightening tho... (hee...)
hes cool guys wut u talkin about hes easy and nice...
He's all right and all. his lectures r a little boring. and his tests are pretty hard 2. but still, i think he's an ok guy
mr kottke is nice and all but is lectures are sometimes boring....
Realllllllllllllllly REALLLY Nice guy, but doesnt really teach at all for AP Comp Sci, but if you can learn the stuff by yourself from the read - Awesome class.
he is ice and all but its so annoyingwhen he gives us the wrong notes
