Honestly, if you get Lyons for AP Economics, you should be incredibly grateful. He has no homework and explains things really well with classwork that is relevant to the real world and what we are learning. Some thin-skinned students might get a bit turned off because he's somewhat strict and can get frustrated at times, but at heart he seems like a genuinely good guy. One of the best teachers I've had at Gunn. As long as you don't slack off, it shouldn't be hard to get 5's on the AP exams.
Mr. Lyons is my KING! I had him for U.S. History and It was such an easy class like god damn that was so easy! All we had to do was write papers on the subjects that we learned about. His lectures were so interesting and they actually made you learn more about the subject, rather than just memorizing random facts. The papers we wrote had outlines that he required us to do. The outlines made everything super easy and he also graded very leniently.
I love him. Get in F period U.S. History.
Great teacher, although hard to approach, he is willing to clarify material. Took his AP Econ class and the material presented in that class not only prepares one for the AP test but also manages to go through a bunch of world topics that have roots in economics. Tests are standard and pretty much just multiple choice from past AP tests, although to be honest, you don't even need to study if you can retain the material discussed in class. He's a genius. Take his class.
Mr. Lyons was the best teacher out of my high school and college career, meaning he was better than my college professors at UCLA. He remains a role model for me and my friends.
incredible teacher. yes he's overly aggressive and moody, but he's so much a genius that i feel that grants him the right to be this way.
Mr. Lyons is my hands-down favorite teacher of all time! I had him for U.S. History/Gov and AP Econ and I was so stoked to be having him for Econ. He really knows his material and has a no bullshit approach to education. I can only look back now and see that his college-style teaching was certainly helpful. Lots of people say he's not nice, lots of people say he's awesome. I can agree with both statements. I really love the podcasts and videos he finds to use in lecture. Again, great teacher!
Mr. Lyons is by far one of the most effective teachers I have ever had. Lyons has a no tolerance policy, preventing the few troublemakers in the class from disrupting the learning experience for the rest of the class. He simply does not baby you. He is also a highly effective communicator. Highly recommend!
He gives no homework and doesn't use textbooks; I think he wants to make sure there are no materials that might disagree with him.
Lyons is amazing!!! He is very nice to his econ students. My favourite teacher!!!!!!!! became nicer after having a baby
Mr. Lyons was one of my favorite teachers back in highschool. He treated our class like a college course and expected us to act like one. I remember one time a girl trying to talk to another student w
Really strict and pretty intimidating, but you will learn a lot in his class. He's no-nonsense but he won't play favorites at all. Probably my favorite teacher at Gunn. Every class, I learn something
Mr. Lyons is perfect. He's interesting, amusing, informative, and teaches applicable knowledge in an efficient fashion. Although his class seems hard, with only research papers determining grades, it's a free A if you put out work for it. @Haters: Ev
Great teachre, and say what you want about him, if your an idiot you will get yelled at, but hes the reason im studying economics. Truly a great teacher.
He's kind of condescending, but he REALLY knows his stuff. There is nothing you can say about Economics, or US Gov that he doesn't already know. Plus, he doesn't give homework, so what's not to love?
The older I get the more i realize how much positive influence Mr.Lyons had on me. Definitely the best teacher to have for this class, unless you have adhd (then it maybe a little troublesome)
super smart and understands how to treat students like adults, not like children - but if you act like a child, you will not be tolerated by him
An extremely intelligent and knowledge-filled teacher. Can be mean if you give him a reason to. Not very personal, but instead just like a college professor. The reason why I love(d) econ.
he's only mean if you talk during videos or sleep during class. otherwise his class is super easy, literally no homework or notes or tests except for a few projects, and he grades SUPER EASY.
He is intimidating no matter what these ppl on here say, he is intimidating. However he is a great teacher and I learned a lot from his class. He can be funny
he's a gold mine of information wrapped in a mean shell of an exterior.
He has a really interesting and unique teaching approach that actually makes his class interesting. I feel like I actually learned A LOT. Plus he's hilarious.
he knows what he is talking about, and you feel like you learn more things in a day compared to a week. also, there is not too much hw. :]
I took AP Econ with Mr. Lyons. LIFE-CHANGING CLASS, especially because of Lyons. His last lecture literally brought tears to my eyes. Long live Lyons!
I LEARNED!!! That's a miracle. He makes you think, and you'll never look at the world the same way again. Really cool and really nice, too.
Has a different teaching approach - very direct and makes class incredibly interesting. He makes you think. Tends to favor students certain students, I would say this is a flaw.
Lyons is one of Gunn's best teachers. He assigns no hw, takes no roll, lecture is clear, concise, funny, and he dresses beautifully. You never have to read the econ book. He explains in 1/2 the words.
His class is so much fun. I had him for government, he lets you out early and he is a great teacher. He makes every single student feel special and so far is the best teacher. I recommend you have him
Very different from all the other teachers at Gunn, and in my opinion way better... his class is so much fun!
AMAZING. i remember last year there were like 25 ppl queuing up to get into his govt class 2nd semester
My favorite class in all four years was Econ with Mr. Lyons. He's a great teacher, and you'll learn a lot.
he is the best without a doubt. if you are cool with him you can stop by whenever and talk about whatever with him. defintely take his class if you can
had him for econ ap and contemporary world. his lectures are incredibly informative yet entertaining, and he prepares you for the AP test without ever assigning hw. an amazing and inspiring teacher.
HE MADE ME FEEL SPECIAL IN HIS GOVERNMENT CLASS, LETS YOU OUT EARLY. HE IS A VERY NICE TEACHER.
Awesome teacher, and great lectures. Do well on the first paper though, because thats the only one he actually reads, he just gives you the same grade and no comments on the rest..
smart guy, but hates stray students that need guiding. isnt the guy to go to if you don't understand whats going on. random outbursts of rage...im glad he liked me
Incredible teacher, the most amazing lectures, movies, and although he may not seem enthusiastic or loving, he knows his stuff. GREAT teacher, *love his lessos*
He is the best histroy teacher i have ever had. Everything you learn in his class you remember afterwords. Lectures are great and so are the essays. Actually the best teacher EVER!
If anyone says hes a bad teacher, its because they are a bad student. Mr Lyons only gets angry at bad students. He's clear, logical, and smart. He realy teache
He is okay but you don't really learn that much...I've had by far better history teachers
He is overall a pretty good, concise teacher... except he has some attitude probs. don get on his bad side tho...
Lyons is awesome. Clear, concise, funny, kind. What more could you want in a teacher? LYONS ROCKS!
Mr. Lyons is chill. The coolest teacher I've ever had. He is really smart too, knows what he's talking about. Awesome lectures.
FOOL PLEASE!!! Mr. Lyons is the best teacher I've ever had. Im gonna take AP Econ just to be in his class. Dont be a punk and he a straight D // D
doesnt care about his non-AP classes. gives pointless busy work. behind in grading. no tests, only research papers. not much hw tho. ego is kinda big heh
Intimidating, though he claims he's not. ("I'm not scary!") Clear lectures, completely prepares you for the AP. Gets mad easily, but is generally nice/funny.
horrible teacher. he spends half the period talking about some random personal stuff and then gets upset and all "we're running out of time" when people ask qs.
Cool teacher, humoros, teaches and explains clearly. very relaxing as an AP course, but still up to pace. Wish he went over the homework answers before the test
always walks the line of inappropriateness, but thats good. i find it impossible to remember the lessons through the notes tho-all teaching's verbal
very cool teacher! though he has a bad temper. but he actually teaches! i've learned the most history from him in high school
when he actually teaches, he's a very clear/concise presenter; little h/w in AP Econ; mandatory in-class participation
