He is really a great person. He does have a temper &if you're being very rude or disrespectful, yeah he's going to yell at you. I think he used to be a very good and enthusiastic band director, but now he has kind of burned out. He's more into having parents and students do his work for him. I love band, and music is something I plan to go into, but he doesn't really have the energy or enthusiasm anymore. It's sad because you know how much he loves the kids and music..great person, though.
I love the Powell. He may not be the most reasonable at times, but he does really care about the kids that he works with.
all hail the great and almighty powell
A Great teacher and a very caring human being! He is a legend in education. He may be from the old school but it's a great school to be from.
obviously the kids that have him for a none instrumental class would hate him, he only teaches those classes cause he's forced too, and he has the right to do whatever he wants with band, that's an extracurricular activity, so stop complaining and grow a pair
I have him for current music and he is the worst teacher I have ever had.
GRAY AREA RULES. follow them and then you will survive. i really enjoy listening to his stories. he might come off alittle mean but once you get to know him hes really funny.
I'm a freshman right now, and I think he is cool. He is a little scary, but all you have to do is be polite when you talk to him and ALWAYS cover your mouth when you yawn.
Mr. Powell can come off brash but really cares about the students in the end. Whenever he tells a story there is always a reason. He just wants to make the band better.
If you show him respect, he'll do the same. I never really realized how much he cares about his band kids until this year... he never had kids, so band kids become his kids.
he is an ineffective teacher.his band spends more time listening to his pointless stories than playing in class. he cannot conduct or instruct music.my playing suffered in his band
Mr. Powell is an amazing teacher and role model, he is one of the few teachers I will always remember. Thank You Mr. Powell!
He really knows his stuff. he does yell a lot but i guess you just get used to it. he has control.he is a great guy and can be funny at times.
you have to be like him to enjoy his teaching, he may not teach music perspectives well or even understand kids, but he knows what he's talking about with band
He's got some insane rules about freshman. Can he conduct:no, is he nice:not always, does he get students to play well:yes.
his "network" of past parents scares off willing newcommers. i was in his class over10 yrs. ago and now my neice is experiencing same stuff!!! Time to quit!
should have retired long ago...and let someone with more enthusiasm take over
His name says it all...this man is of no help with music, he can't seem to really grade anything, so just keep on his good side and you'll get an A.
Okay he's so weird, cause he really enjoys shouting, not to yell at people but just because he likes being loud and he even says that, he'll talk quiet to demonstrate the fact that we don't understand Piano and then shout to demonstrate forte
