He seems like a nice person, but I couldn't pass his class. He is VERY smart, but I think it makes it hard for us students to understand. I took his ALG2 class first semester and failed, and dropped out 2nd semester to business math because it was too hard. I took it again in summer school with a great teacher and passed with an A. I just think his teaching style is hard to understand. He doesn't allow many questions, and doesn't explain all his steps.
Ok first, he is extremely smart...no doubt about it. I would even wager to say that he is probably the most knowledgeable math teacher in the district and so cal, BUT as a teacher...he sucks. How can you justify arranging students in grade order... that IS RIDICULOUS!!! You have no right to even give a slightest hint of a student's test grade. He makes his tests are incredibly and unreasonably difficult. He treats basically like we should know and do hid level math.
He is a horrible teacher. He sat us in order of how we did on tests so everyone knew if you were struggling. He picked out favorites and really only taught specific to their needs. When I would go in to ask for help, he dismissed me saying I wasn't worth teaching since I clearly didn't put in the effort (there was zero basis for this statement besides me struggling). He also repeatedly made fun of people in community college and made it seem like it was only for idiots.
His PreCalculus class is pretty difficult, but he knows A LOT about math(shortcuts, different methods, etc.). He is willing to help you if you need it. However, his tests are hard , but if you study and don't make stupid mistakes you can do well on them. Also, since he is left-handed, it is hard to see the board sometimes. Overall, really great teacher.
Probably one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He actually cares about how you do and is all about improvement. He is easily one of the smartest teachers( he knows all there is to math) and is really helpful. AP calculus is a breeze with his teachings . Spectacular teacher , should teach college( too good at math for just precalc)
he never ever explains the concepts properly, and the stupid miniquizzes wreck your grade. if you try to go in at lunch for help he tells you dumb college stories and does maybe one or two problems. if you're taking precalc honors pray that you get his third period class because you get like 15 minutes of extra time...it's so unfair. also know that he picks favorites and you have to be vvv smart to do well in this class. good luck...you're gonna need it.
He is a wonderful teacher that I ever had .
He's an okay person if you get on his good side but has an "I'm better than you" attitude. He makes things much more complicated than they need to be and his tests are impossible. He singles out the kids who struggle in the class so everyone knows.
Really smart guy, absolutely impossible teacher. Admittedly, math is very hard for me, but every time I asked and asked for help, he couldn't do much besides do whatever problem over and over and ask if maybe I suddenly understood it. He's really smart, and a nice guy for sure, but I was just completely unable to get anything from this type of class; even with doing all the homework I barely got a D.
Extremely smart person, not that great of a teacher. Amazing person outside of the classroom, but inside, his material is taught really fast and is thus hard to grasp.
he is very smart but he does not know how to teach. he goes through the material way too fast and does not offer rational explanations. the tests are significantly harder that necessary and it is almost a guarantee you will get 10% or more lower than you did in algebra 2 honors. he is also very condescending and has a monotonous voice.
I failed his Math Analysis Honors class. He ignored the fact that I was getting C's or D's on every test and offered no assistance. My parents could not understand the material either, so I had no way to get back on track. Questions in class are met with his condescending looks and answers. It is unfortunate that he is the only teacher of one of the hardest classes at the school
He was a very rude teacher. (if you can even call him a teacher) any student that didn't do well in his class would be quickly ignored. He also had favorite kids in his class. If students did poorly,
Not only could he not teach well, he makes many mistakes and likes to brag about his math skills. Seems to blame students who don't do well instead of trying to help them to do better. I had him3years
Thinks he is the best mathematician in the world. Also somehow seems to revel in destroying your grades.
Math Analysis Honors was a hard class and was the first math class i got a B in. You need to do the homework for this class. He is very helpful as a teacher.
I had a hard time focusing in class. He does the problems really fast. Hard to follow. But, overall a nice guy. Somewhat of a comedian.. or so he thinks.
Math Analysis Honors is a difficult class, and you'll have to do your HW regularly if you don't want to get stuck behind. Fortunatly, Hoffman is a good instructor and a stand-up guy.
Math Analysis Honors is a VERY hard class but I enjoy his teaching style very much.
I love Mr. Hoffman! Some people don't like his teaching style but I personally thought it was the best. He's super nice and funny! Because of him I was able to do EXTREMELY well in college!
Math Analysis Honors is a pretty easy class if you take the time to study. Calculus AP on the other hand is very few points and is hard, so study a lot or your grade will plummet.
his voice LITERALLY drones. it is so easy to fall asleep in that class.... maybe that's why the kids next to me does that every day in math...
he knows what he is talking about. It is just hard to stay awake enough to learn any of it
He is a great teacher and he's nice if he likes you. Try to get on his good side, do all your hw, and study for the tests.
One of the best teachers I ever had. And to think I always hated math.
Excellent teacher! He made math understandable for our son. We highly reccomed this caring man. Takes time for his class. Willing to back up so concepts are understood.
He is very good at what he does and knows what he's talking about. I learned more in his class than I ever have in a math class.
I have him for Algebra 2 and he is the best math teacher I have ever had. He's really easy when it comes to homework and can clearly explain the math lessons
Mr Hoffman is an ausome teacher. He's very good at explaining things, however I've found that some students have a hard time understanding his teaching or find his class boring.
MR. hoffman is the best teacher in the world! i had him for geometry last year and now i have him for algebra 2. his methods are good. hes the best teacher ive ever had!
Awesome. Knows everything about math. Pwnz at chess. Really nice guy. Pay attention to lectures and take notes, even you smart kids who think you dont need to. Second semester harder than the first.
he says everything is easy.... well it should be for him - cuzhes the teacher-- i am convinced that no matter how hard it try in his class that i will not be able to raise my grade
nice teacher...can't explain thing very well though ....sometimes funny..and i am failing his class
Amazing teacher . . . I still failed his class though.
If you get this teacher you are lucky because he is cool! Really!
Not all that helpful. Not always clear. Nice guy though.
Excelent teaher; however, doesnt seem to care about his students personally too much. Very knowlegeable and doesnt run his class like First grade.
Awesome teacher, very concerned and helpful. Knows his stuff!
He is an awesome teacher! He was always willing to help me out and I liked the group quizzes. Some of his tests were hard though.
