Just do the extra credit, her tests and group quizzes are easy, but she's a strict teacher.
Alright, you haters. She IS good at encouraging. You turn in a test with a section blank, she'll make you go back on try it. Trust me, it's encouraging when she does that. She will help you when you ask her for help, but she's not always as warm and fuzzy as Elmasri, which is perfectly alright. Just be on her good side and she will help you from the first to last day of the course, or the first and last day in which you're in her class.
Cannot teach. Just talks at us from the front of the room. Don't bother asking her for help if you don't understand something, she'll just treat you like you're stupid. I'm sorry, did she not realize that TEACHING is a part of her job as a TEACHER? Gives practice problems but 1/2 the time doesn't even go over them, how are we supposed to know if we're doing them right? Tbh if you need help just go to Elmasri. God knows he's the only Chem teacher in the Science department that can actually teach.
Most boring class of the semester
She is knowledgeable but this class is extremely dreadful, If you need help go to Elmasari for obvious reasons. Everyone in Jakel envies Elmasari students because of his fun teaching style and how he allows students to have test corrections to eat 1/4 points back and curves on some tests while Jakel does nothing to the tests. The class is extremely boring so prepare for a boring semester! She tries to be funny and stuff but it ends up leading to an awkward silence. Have fun Jakel students :) !
She does not show favoritism. If you need help, she is not coming to you. YOU need to go ask for help. What do you mean they don't do well on quizzes? For the Gas Law's unit, she had to buy mega-bags of candy to reward students who got As on the quizzes. It's not her teaching style. It's the students' fault. Hey, a lot of students don't bother to know their ions! That's certainly not her fault if you think about it. Hey, she does care if you haven't noticed! She DOES make you try!
she has no idea what is best for her students...she just blabbers away when we are taking notes and it enters one ear and goes straight out the other. everyone gets bad grades on her quizzes yet she doesn't seem to take that as a hint that maybe her method of teaching is not effective. she can be nice at times but she doesn't seem to have a willingness to help me
Oh boy, she knows her stuff! She can seem to be in a bad mood at times, but you must realize, she's tired at times. She can explain things pretty well if YOU JUST LISTEN, LISTEN, LISTEN!!! If you aid for her during one of her prep periods, you will get to know her pretty well. She has a picture of herself in 1993 when she got married. If she asks you how she looks, say "You look the same my dear! You look wonderful!"
She doesn't deserve this much hate. It is literally impossible to not get an A in her class if you do all her extra credit. The tests are easy, and there is no mandatory homework at all.
Her teaching style is boring though, and she doesn't feel very relatable to the students. She tries to help us with reading comprehension on tests, the pointless career project, etc. Still, she does care for her students.
She's actually a pretty good teacher. People just fall onto the hate bandwagon.
She uses powerpoints that are tiny and you cant realy read it after you write them. you will get confused and now, im not even sure if im ready for the CST. wow.
She does a good job of explaining things and is overall a good teacher. The problem I had in her class was the students- they're not motivated, though I don't think that's all her fault. However, her class is VERY easy- there's so much extra credit that you'd almost have to try in order to fail.
i thought i liked her for 3/8 of the year. but for 5/8 of the year I HATE HER. kllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllljlkjoijlkjliojlkjoijkljlijokjlkjlkjlkjlkjlkjlkjlj
I was afraid to have her when I saw these ratings, but she isn't that bad! I am in her class this semester. It is really easy. She offers so much extra credit and nothing is weighted. She might not be the most exciting or best teacher, but nonetheless she is not as bad as all the other ratings make her seem. Ms. Jain on the other hand-- all her ratings are SPOT ON.
This woman cannot teach to save her life. All she is good at in class is eating. Ironically, she's VERY strict. And she thinks she's soooo good at teaching. I can tell she knows her chemistry, but like i said, she cant teach. Also she picks favorites. If you're not one of her favorites, prepare to be in living hell. She HATES me for no particular reason. She only likes the students who kiss up to her. Im just looking forward to 2nd sememster where i'll have mr. jacobs (thank God) instead of her
got a D second semester from her and getting an A in wada now...
nice, but cant really teach. after a semester: you wont even know if you even took chem.
She's nice person....but she just can't teach man, just cannot teach.
Mrs. Jakel is very very intelligent but there is a difference between that and teaching
excuse me to the last person who just rated jakel. she DOES know her material. she just sucks at teaching it. I feel bad for her because she knows everybody makes fun of her. Good intentions but terrible at teaching.
she knows chemistry really well. but i took chem A last year and this year and had her both times and did not pass last year and barely passed this year. she doesnt know how to teach. when i got a tutor at the end of the semester i actually started getting chem when this was the second time in the class and it took a tutor to teach me when you would think i would get it from her since it was my second time taking it. -___________-
Mrs. Jakel is very knowledgeable in chemistry, and wants to help you learn, but unfortunately just cannot teach. The lessons are extremely boring and you end up hearing Mr. Elliott's yelling from across the hall (and therefore learning more bio than chem).
Doesn't know how to teach the concepts. Very unhelpful. Also refuses to grade fairly or help the students she doesn't like. Overall, one of the worst teachers at IHS!!
Although Mrs. Jakel knows chemistry really well. However, that doesn't translate to her teaching methods. Even if you can muster up the strength to pay attention in class, which is very a very difficult feat, you still won't learn very much. She simply jsut isn't very good at explaining concepts and leaves most students confused. She can be very wishy washy and has favorites. If she doesn't like you, you'll know. On the days she's in a good mood, she can be really kind and helpful, but those are rare
She's not a bad teacher...just boring. She knows her stuff, but I don't feel like I understand anything even if I pay attention. Whether or not you pass the class depends more on your study effort outside of class.
First impression of her = scary, but she has a great sense of humor and she's really nice. She's a good teacher if you can pay attention in class.
I think Mrs. Jakel isn't a bad teacher..she's just boring. If you want to pass her tests, study the notes for God's sake. She once got really mad at me because I spelled her name wrong.."Jackel" I don't even know what it means but apparently it was very derogatory. Anyhow she is nice and she will help you if you jsut approach her.
she tries to teach, but shes just not very good at telling a whole class an idea, but she is always willing to stay after class and help. she is a nice person and tries, but not a very good teacher, at least not as good as wada
she prepares a lot for the lecture and try to make students understand the concept.. but sometimes, the message she is trying to get across is unclear..
we refer to her as "the whale" for obvious reasons, but don't expect to have a whale of a time with her, she should get metaphorical liposuction for her class so it moves faster and be less dull
At the semester break, so many of us tried to switch from Jakel to Wada that half of us had to go BACK to having Jakel. In the 2 weeks I was w/ Wada, he spent the whole time teaching us what Jakel was supposed to have taught us ...
While immensly boring (sleep is good), Mrs. Jakel really does teach the stuff you need to know. If only she knew how to make it a lot more interesting, like Mr. Wada's lectures, then her droning/copying notes.
She teaches you nothing in class and has the computer program do most of her talking. I have a compromised foundation in chemistry because I was put in her class.
dont whine about her u foolz, i had her 2 semesters, its like SELF STUDY. so hard and so lame, she likes to laugh at herself... you shouldn't teach hs.
She laughs at her own jokes...to top it off she doesn't teach very well. help me :( i hope i pass her class
very boring.....slept a lot......didn't learn a thing
She is SO boring. Even on the first day the whole class was sleeping! She might be nice, but she's still REALLY REALLY BORING and CAN'T TEACH. I wish I had Wada!
worst teacher i had this year. there are no words to describe how horrible she is. i literally did not learn anything from her. her class was like nap time
I actually thought Mrs Jakel was quite helpful. I loved her class and she made sure we were well prepared for tests etc.
You're basically teaching yourself. I had her 2 years ago, and you would basically do your own notes at home.
She spoke a foriegn language to me...went during break and lunch to get help and she tried...i give her that...but is never clear on what shes saying
She is nice, but its hard to understand what she is saying.
why is she teaching?? she sould look up the defintion of teaching again. and maybe she'll quit her job.
Wasn't too easy, wasn't too hard. Danng, should have done the extra credit. Soo boring and soo unhelpful. All she needs is warm-ups...
