What can I say, I think Bobby Northrup is one of my if not my favorite teacher EVER. He is an amazing person, and when I left him at the end of the year I was very upset knowing I won't have him next year. He cares about his students, and if you ever need a question answered you can always count on him. He also loves learning and his happy to learn new things. Even now I come back to him needing help in my history classes and he is always there to help, absolutely recommend
He is definitely a really nice person and he is EXTREMELY chill. But the problem is, he doesn't teach. In class he uses ppts that repeat what the reading of homework from the previous night was. He's a good guy, but a HORRIBLE teacher. Gets off topic a lot, gets tests/quizzes from QUIZLETS, seems to not know the material very well, and doesn't teach like a proper teacher. It is pretty much a self-learned course because the teach is almost useless in helping. Only rarely he can be helpful at all.
Mr Northrup is a really chill person but not a good teacher. Allows students to get completely off topic and waste other students time who sit there and listen. He is too nice to disruptive students and doesn't teach much.
Mr. Northrup is very nice, chill, and can be helpful, but can also get off-track. If you have a question, he can answer it. Unfortunately in class, he can be distracted by some specific peoples' conversations. With that said, he is very social and generally nice. However, sometimes class lessons can be a bit confusing, and irrelevant to what is actually on the test. Of the tests I've taken, a surprising amount on its content is not from what we spend class time talking about.
Mr.Northrup is a really great guy, but he tends to get off topic in class by the same few talkative people. If Northrup doesn't get off topic, he's actually really helpful, but unfortunately that doesn't happen that often. As long as you read the textbook at home, you should do fine on his tests and really enjoy his class with this fine man.
Having Robert is like brussel sprouts -> You'll either hate him, or you'll love him. And, like brussel sprouts, the large majority of people will hate him. You can rely on him to get off-topic EVERY DAY, mainly with 3-5 people that the majority of people will also come to hate. You won't learn anything in class because of this, and tests are mainly questions compiled from the corners of the Internet. Sleep in class and study A LOT at home. Because Robert, like brussel sprouts, don't give a crap.
Rob is a great teacher, he can get off-topic, but when he is locked-in he can teach. Great teacher and guy
Lot's of people will tell you that Smith is the better teacher, but Northrup knows what he is doing. He's very helpful with writing essays but not so much on the multiple choice. Don't rely on his lectures to teach you anything--he will never finish a powerpoint in his life. Use the time in class to de-stress and joke around, and teach yourself everything at home. Read and memorize the textbook. The tests are awful.
To be honest, unlike the rest of the reviews bobby was one of my favorite teachers so far. While he does get off topic often, everything you need to know is in the textbook (which you MUST read for success in AP world regardless of your teacher) If I had a question, I could ask it and leave with more information than I asked for. He is always there for his students and you can always depend on him to do the most he can to prepare you. I got an A and a 5, so work hard and you will do great!
Mr. Northrup is an okay teacher. He does tend to get off topic, like talking about Obama care for over half the class period. Textbooks are more for homework than for lessons and he tends to make fun of students who don't pay attention but I guess that's to be understood. The major problem resides in the study guides he makes for tests. If you use those to study they don't get you very far. He's not a bad person but his teaching ability isn't very good.
mr northrup is a great guy. He mentions dogbowl a lot, but i guess he just likes talking about his dog. His car always seems to break when most needed, but that has nothing to do with his teaching. He gives people nicknames such as "Mr. Borscht". He makes his stories knowledgable and interesting, such as how a man named sam would lose his butt if it wasnt attached to him. He also creates great games, but I have a feeling he had an outsider help him with it. Overall a fantastic teacher.
He's... an interesting person, but by no means a good teacher whatsoever. I used to be great at History, and when I had him, I had straight Cs. He gets off task more often than he stays on task, picks favorites, and starts class late almost every single day because of the kids that come to visit him. Not a good teacher at all.
I'll be honest- he's a pretty smart and awesome guy. However, he really tends to get off topic a lot, and isn't the most helpful when it comes to preparing for (ironically enough) his own exams. The class itself is can be done only reading the textbook however, but sometimes the projects and assignments tend to be time-wasting and unhelpful.
I like Mr. Northrup as a person and I generally enjoy sarcastic teachers like him, but the truth is, he's a god awful teacher. Asking him a question is pointless because he won't really answer what you asked, but rather reply with a flood of his own questions, and nothing gets done during class other than on rare occasions.
Okay, he's a really great guy, but a horrible teacher. He treats kids terribly if he doesn't like you. And is a goon in class always gets off topic and it's very hard to follow. He made a girl cry cause she didn't do well on a test. Doesn't take responsibility for things he does like hurt people's feelings and he acts like a child. When kids are making fun of another kid he joins in and makes fun of that kid too regardless of being the teacher. He just takes it too far. Good guy bad teacher.
Bobby's a cool dude. Gets off topic a lot, but not really in a bad way. He always has you thinking and using intellectual thought processing, even if it has nothing to do with the subject. Super intelligent, caring man who will stimulate your ideas and a great guy all around. However, he does often play Devil's Advocate (Google it) to see our ideas and may offend many, but I think it's genius. You either love him or hate him, and for me it was at both but I'm starting to love his style.
as others have said, he's extremely offensive to religions, but otherwise he is really great person
At the beginning of the year he seems like a cool teacher, many former students of him said he was great.........false. He is one of the worst teachers i have ever had. when someone asks a question he responds with an off-topic and immature answer. He calls students ignorant and punks, he swears in class everyday. Mr.Northrupp makes fun of peoples races and religions. Many students complained about falling asleep during class and his teaching ethics. I have no idea why Solon still employs him!?
Can be a cool guy if he likes you, but a complete let down if he doesn't. I had a bad experience when I was simply trying to understand a topic. I got called stupid by other students and rather than shutting it down, Mr. Northrup continued and added on by calling me ignorant and telling to be less reactive to topics. He's not a mean teacher, but he can be demeaning and doesn't treat students like students. He treats me especially like a child. Doesn't clarify and tests are ambiguous and hard.
Awful person and awful teacher! He couldn't be any more demeaning and disrespectful. He treats all his students like they are ignorant and less than him. He doesn't allow questions that he doesn't think are appropriate, but in turn he never gets anything done and talks about irrelevant info. with the class all the time. I think that he shouldn't be so inconsiderate and try to be funny and cool and start actually teaching the information because that way we could actually learn info. I hate him.
Bobby is my Jesus..he is literally perfection. I've never had a better teacher. I love Bobby Northrup
Mr. Northrup is a great teacher!
Mr. Northrup was a great teacher. While the class was more difficult for me, that was all my fault. His class is a great wake-up call, and though it is challenging, it was extremely helpful for me. It forced me to start working hard.
Makes you feel disrespected almost every time you talk to him. Interesting guy, not a good teacher... no one is prepared for the tests unless they memorize the book... but even those students have a very hard time. Assigns too many useless projects.
Mr. Northrup is the kind of teacher you want if you want to teach yourself a topic. He is a great guy but not a great teacher. His tests do not follow what he teaches in class. He teaches broadly but his tests are specific.
I know I'm supposed to be saying something nice but I really can't. He was offensive to religions, he swore during class, and he taught virtually nothing. His tests are very unprofessional; the average percentage of words actually spelled correctly is 70%. "Northrup is a great teacher!"-said no one. EVER.
I really enjoyed having Northrup as a teacher, I found him funny and interesting which helped keep me focused in class. Some complain he's not good at teaching but I don't really know why, I though he was a pretty good teacher.
I think mr northrupt is a great teacher, he really walks you through whatever you learning with funny anecdotes and interesting lectures, for anyone who feels that he doesn't teach anything it's probs jes' cause you don't pay attention and all the complaints about homework are irrelevant because he only gives out like two a semester and they are more for people with different learning tactics. Mr. Northrupt, you're a DREAM MACHINE.
He is pretty popular amongst the students because of it, but his sass and easy-going nature sometimes gets in the way of teaching the class. I like the way he teaches his class, but we often get off topic. -Fan
When asked questions he likes to give a lot of sass instead of just simply answering. Always off topic making learning very hard. The only way students can pass his class is by stealing other teachers study guides and studying those. Homework assignments are pointless and confusing. Can be funny at times but he needs to stay on topic more. The movies are probably the best class days but we need more time to turn them in. Needs to teach more and entertain himself less. Do not appreciate the sass
Has a sense of humor. But talks about things that are never on the test And it gets you very confused. He needs to stop joking around and put His game face on , and actually teach us something important that we can understand.
Not a bad teacher, but don't really like the homework assignments. They are really pointless and hard to understand. Also, the video projects are a big pain, it is extremely difficult to finish filming in one period especially if you have a really bad group. And students don't really learn anything from the videos, since we are to busy stressing about putting the video in his inbox before the bell rings. Can seem strict, but overall an enjoyable class environment. Tests are really easy!!
Bad: -sometimes his funny personality gets us off-topic and makes him hard to talk to (but I don't want that to change) -sometimes assigns unesessary homework/projects Good: -amazing humor -prepares us very well (explains things in an engaging way) -he really allows you to grow as a person and find out your strengths but at the same time helps you develop skills to help yourself individually -he has the perfect balance if strictness/"boringness" and lightheartedness and humor 9/10
good personanlity but does get to the point of the main lesson, and would like study guides
He is an okay teacher, really funny at times and serious at others
Hes really nice and likes to joke around and get off topic. His class was easy and as long as you pay attention its not a hard class. Hes a boss.
Very easy to understand and follow along, great jokes and easy to memorize tips. Made the class very fun knew lots of background info which was not even required. Savva Madar.
bad teacher. good as a person but very unorganized, very bad at teaching. somewhat easy to get around.
mr northrup is a really sweet guy but you MUST STUDY ALOT to get a A in his class. he makes social studies intresing. and will help you if u ask for it. but he does get off topic really easily!
Lots of people think he doesn't teach, but that's not true. A really cool guy who can get off topic sometimes. His class isn't hard though just memorize and enjoy the class, we do fun stuff sometimes too.
his class was ok..he didnt like me very much lol...hes class never made sense to me..gets off topic very easily...but overall it was ok
this guy is a great teacher at times. he seems to get off topic a little easily. he is awesome outside of teaching but he spent an entire day talking about how he worked at frito lays while in college. good luck!
tightest guy ever, very easy class and pays attention to every student. He means very well
Mr Northrub is an ok guy. He means well and cares about his students. But the man is nuts.
WOOOO good teacher you should have him as a teacher because that is what he does WOOHH good class too
Mr. Northrup was a cool teacher. I like him a lot and thought he was funny and interesting. Got a 104% in his class. The projects are kind of odd though....
hardest teacher ever, group discussions and weird activites dont work... just teach normally!
Mr Na is the coolest but his class is a bit boring and you gotta listen to the lectures cuz its where all his tests come from! But he's the best guy eva!!
Northrup was one of the best teachers my freshman year! He made world history intresting...BUT he needs to work on his handwriting. I couldn't read his notes
