I have no idea why "VD" is still around. He teaches the bare minimum and expects you to study all the rest on your own time, he has stupid guidelines for solving problems and doing homework (IGUESS), he takes off points for extremely tiny details. e.g. He docks 0 points for putting the wrong answer on analysis questions on a lab, but -1 for putting the wrong date, -1 for wrong materials listed, -1 for not showing work the right way, etc.

AP Phys. He gives vague directions and busy work and then docks off points using arbitrary rules, probably because he doesn't know the subject himself. It's basically self study from the book + hours and hours of labs where he marks you off for everything. A lot of the things he says is contradictory.

A lot of people complain about VD but he really isn't a bad teacher. He may not teach chemistry and me may not know much about the subject, but what he teaches you in the class is how to be independent. Nobody is going to hold your hand and spoonfeed you all the information that you ever need. There comes a point where you have to learn the info on your own. His binder checks also keep you on your toes and force you to be organized all the time.

Not a fun class. Is very stuck in the old ways and doesn't really believe in the use of technology at all.
Will take off millions of points if something is slightly off then the exact format he wants.
It's possible to get an A but it is loads of work.

Don't take his CP Physics class. Honestly, AP Physics is probably WAY easier. I had gotten high A's in CP Chemistry and CP Biology but yet it is a struggle just to get a B in VD's class. Especially as a junior, I would not recommend taking this class. Most of your APs/honors classes will be easier than this class (including Honors Precalculus).

He seems to care about our learning, but he doesn't teach anything. He just enforces his finicky little rules and procedures and lectures about once a chapter (only covering one or two sections of it). He makes the class unreasonably hard and expects the full attention and focus on his class (which is only CP), when the students have much more on their mind. Good for prepping military academy prospects.

He doesn't really teach unfortunately, so there is a lot of self-studying involved. He has a lot of rules on how he wants things done, and his tests are not really representative on what was taught in class

Mr Van Deusen is EXTREMELY picky over homework and labs, and his class is a lot of self studying. He grades pretty hard too, so your grade isn't always an accurate reflection of how well you know the material, but instead, of how well you can follow rules.

He doesn't teach, very strict. He would turn the students against each other. Good luck to have him as your Honors Chem teacher next year. Grades are super easy, this is for sure a super plus at Mission.

I had Van Deusen for CP Chemistry last year and his class was probably the best class in my schedule last year. He requires you to do your work, people complain about this but he does this so that you

He is extremely picky over hmwk and the labs take forever. He tries to teach but can't answer a lot of questions and just says to look in the book. Overall, for chemistry he was overly hard.

Extremely harsh when it comes to projects. Rarely teachers. Makes the students do it for the class instead. Extra credit football games a total waste of time. Take AP, you'll do 1/4 the amount of work

He is too strict and picks favorites. His projects and labs require too much time. Hardly anyone did well in his class. I studied, but hardly felt prepared. Camacho's class is way better.

Physics- Good & Cool Teacher. It's challenging even for honor students. Tests are unbelievably hard. Class averages are in the C-D range. Studying rarely helps. At least I learned.
