She knows her stuff, don't get me wrong. However, her classes are incredibly boring, she threatens kids withat a jblock detention if they talk, and she is not understanding of a student(s) opinions/needs
I am so confused in her class. The more I seek her help, the worse my confusion gets. She constantly changes her words, and I cannot grasp what she wants from me. I don't care if she's close minded; I just need to KNOW what her expectations are so I can write my essay based on that, but I just can't relate to her in any sort of way. I have never gotten below A- in my life but that record is about to be broken thanks to her. I even gave up sleep to do well on her class but it was not worth it.
Thought she was awful while I had her but I shockingly learned a lot in the grammar aisle... not so much with essays or reading. She's really smart but literally cannot teach anything but grammar (which was EXTREMELY difficult). Assigns a ton of work and has a strong, opinionated personality -- in addition her tests are ridiculously specific and you will probably average a B or below unless you are Shakespeare himself
worst teacher ever
Switch out ASAP. FDB
she's just awful. switch out if you can. honestly the worst teaching experience ive ever had.
Ms. Marder is very opinionated. It is her way or no way. If you disagree with her you will fail. Do not bother asking her for help. She refuses to help anyone and she is constantly cancelling class and is never available during J BLOCK. Ms. Marder picks a grade for you at the beginning of the year and gives you that grade on every assignment. I am glad that I will never have her again. She ruined my time at South. I only hope that my college professors are nothing like her.
Nice but very strict grader and is very opinionated/biased. She knows A LOT however she gives way too much homework in extremely short time periods. Reading Quizzes are easy if you read and vocab quizzes are fairly easy. She does indeed teach like every class is an honors class. Expect a grade from between C- to B.
She teaches every class like it's an honors class, but is nice once you get to know her. If you're in honors, she's great. If you're in curric 1, don't even think about getting a grade above a b.
gives waaayyy too much homework and too little time, even over the weekend! too opinionated and such a harsh grader!!
She is definetly the hardest freshman teacher, but you will learn so much. She is one of my favorite teachers and is extremely interesting. Challenges you and is so nice. Awesome teacher
She is too opinionated and doesn't accept any new ideas whatsoever. If you can, switch out. worst junior honors teacher.
friendly, but not very open to new ideas. really random, obscure points of focus
Basically she has a very rigid view on everything. Have an opinion different than hers and you're wrong. However I did learn a lot in her class even though my personal opinions were somewhat silenced.
she thinks only her opinion is correct, and if you dont guess exactly what she is thinking, you are wrong.
She tends to make corrections on writing pertaining to writing style, such as commas, which I disliked, though she didn't take points off for them. Try your best, and you'll get a good grade. She's very perky, energetic, funny, and nice. She can't dislike you, I think. Just be good, and don't lie about not having done homework. She doesn't like seeing who wrote a paper before she grades it, for fear she'll be biased, which is also a nice quality about her :).
Very hard grader, but she's a good teacher and nice. The only people that hate her are "typical" South students, the ones who are obsessed with getting A's.
If she's going to be so strict, you'd think she'd actually teach something USEFUL.
i think she's a great teacher...a very hard grader though...sometimes she is unfair but overall i like her, and she's nice
South's best teacher. You complainers are all as close-minded as you're pretending she is. If you come to class ready to listen and learn, then you will get the grade you deserve.
She picks a grade for you at the beginning of the year and gives it to you on every future paper. I always got a grade that came to 80%. My friend always got 78%. ALWAYS!
She definitely should not be working with kids. Also, she can have a devastating effect on you if you let her.
during the year that i had her, i sometimes resented her tough grades, but now i feel so grateful that i learned so much from her. a great honors teacher
She's very hard, but she really wants to help you and if you're nice and respectful she might cut you a lot of slack. She's a nice person give her a break
had marder her 1st year('00/01) cur.1, is nice to non-brats, if people try the hw is really not hard, is 1 way about opinions, yelled at brats and lectured them
teaches curr. 1 as if its honors. not cool. listens to opinions but often rejects them if theyre differnet from her own. i wouldnt really say shes mean tho
shes so mean n if u dont like to act shes going to hate u and dont go to her j blocks cas she doesnt help at all
way too strict about everything, she really needs to lighten up!
shes soooo great i love her enthusiasm and feminism... it's true she has high standards but i think that's a good thing. :)
as a person, she's probably nice...but in the classroom and as a teacher she is the anti-christ. Actually I take back the first thing about her as a person
every1 keeps saying shes hard which she is, but also very nice, pushes u 2 write better, very helpful jblocks; very funny w/ life stories/hating bush
She is such an amazing teacher! She's challenging and fun at the same time. I have learned so much from her.
hand stuff in on time, participate in class, and look interested...she'll love you. It doesn't hurt to compliment her clothes or ask questions after class.
She's a nice person, but her teaching skills leave a lot to be desired. Her standards for work are way too high.
i like marder more and more now. she really seems like she cares about us if you dont like her it is prolly because your doing badly in the class
never seem to care alays have to agree with her very unexpected behavior does not seem to realize the trouble high shool students go through
marder isn't that bad as a person, you can kind of like her once you figure out she is human but as a teacher, my god, the women has NEVER given me an A
My writing improved a lot, as did my grammer, but it was a very hard class, and i was miserable going through it although I do appreciate what she taught me
the kids that don't like her are the kids that fool around in class like doodling. she really does care and a lot of kids are mean.
she is very hard and sometimes it seems impossible to do well in her class but you learn a lot.
she discusses main idea topics in class but puts tiny detail questions on the tests in multiple choice, each answer 1 letter different
She is hard, but you learn a lot. Looking back on when i had her, i am grateful to have learned as much as did, even though at the time it didn't seem that way.
Although she seems nice on the outside, once you get to know her, shes not such a great person. As a teacher, not so good.....
Not the best teacher but she tries really hard. She expects alot form her students...which is good. She's a great person though.
seems feminist b/c girls get better grades typically, but not mean or strict, sometimes even fun. she is, however, the hardest teacher i have ever had!
She knows what she's doing, but all she wants in her papers are her thoughts regergitated; there's no room for new ideas.
I had her a couple of years ago.At the time, i wasnt too found of her. She was tough, but you know what, she cares about her students and now she offers me help
Looking at some of these good commits about her, I think Ms. Marder wrote them herself!
this class is pretty hard to keep up with, but as soon as i started doing well and working hard, my other classes started going smoothley too...there are some things you learn from her that you don't learn in any other highschool class
I HATE GRAMMAR! SHE KNOWS I HATE GRAMMAR, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND GRAMMAR...but yet for some reason i still enjoy her class, and after going to see her outside of class, i understand so much more, i still hate grammar though
i can only learn if i can relate to my teacher, and at first i couldnt relate to Ms Marder, but then after going to get help from her, i realized that she doesnt want to make our lives difficult but she jsut wants to helps, and prepare us for the long run
the object of a preposition cannot be anything but the object of a prepostion...see, even tho we look at you blankly when you speak, we do learn! keep it up.
Ms. Marder is a hard teacher...but she is by far one of the best teachers i have ever known.
She has high expectations for her students and she is a dertermined person, who wants to see her students succeed. If you go to her for extra help, she will sit down you,and break up whatever it is that you are having troubles with. I have learned so much
Here's a thought:maybe if you got offline and stopped wasting ur time complaining about teachers who dont dish out A's to rich slackers, then you'd have time to do your hw. obviously ur gonna hate a teacher if they dont GIVE you good grades...work for it!
honest, hardworking woman, who puts everything she has into teaching, and has truely inspired me and a number of other students to work hard at a career in writing.
