Mrs. Basquill is extremely knowledgable and enthusiastic about her subject, which may lead to the harsh judgment of students if they do not have the same background and the love of literature. At first I did not appreciate her because of the enormous work load and high expectations of her class, but I have come to realize that her enthusiasm and fairness she bases her teaching on is extremely rare at Charter. I will admit the class is difficult, but overall I learned so much and was never bored.
Actually takes time to emphasize why English is important unlike most English teachers. Also, most of the books you do read are pretty good. Some people complain about the workload, but I don't mind it because it is consistently moderate, not sporadically excessive.
Hard, but managable.
Mrs.Basquill is very passionate about British literature and it's quite evident. She has an affinity for long, laborious packets but she grades them fairly. Her homework is quite time consuming as well. Discussion in class is typically quite fun and she's a nice person. Overall it's a difficult yet interesting class. If you get her for any class make sure you work hard and don't procrastinate her assignments.
Okay, yes, she is a tough teacher, but THANK GOD she actually knows what she is talking about! I have had some pretty awful English teachers in the past, so having Mrs. Basquill was a great experience; she's understanding, and she explains everything very well. She's a wonderful teacher.
Lots of homework, pretty hard tests. She really likes the subject which is nice and her lectures aren't boring but she's super annoying. If she likes you, you'll probably be fine :\ If not, she can be pretty rude but it's not too bad.
Believes that her class is the only class that students have as an English teacher in a school of math and science and assigns work accordingly. Overall a very knowledgable teacher that is enthusiastic about literature but does not allow students to express opinions that she doesn't share.
Mrs. Basquill's eclectic yet engaging classes have driven me to pursue a career as an English teacher. Although challenging and prone to giving obscenely long packets, she is a witty and skilled teacher and I always looked forward to her class.
After having her for Brit Lit soph year, I found her to be an alright teacher. She isn't the best but does her best to keep the class engaged. If you want a good grade, STUDY HARD. She gives a ton of homework but you have enough time so use it wisely
Too much homework. Picks favorite students and grades accordingly.
Great teacher. You will learn a lot about literature!
Mrs. Basquill is a pretty great teacher. She taught me to understand/ love Shakespeare and I went from failing essays with Benzing to getting As this year. yay Mrs. Basquill! :D
I absolutely love her! She was my favorite teacher! She is kind, interesting, and best of all, highly relatable. Her positive attitude is contageous, but her expectations are realistic.
A fantastic teacher, and an amazing person. I had so much fun in her class, because she's so quirky and fun. However, she does have a slight bias against male students, but it's nothing major.
She is an absolutely amazing teacher, very easy to get along with, and very caring and understanding. I learned more from her in one year than I had in all of my previous years of school and I cried when I didn't get her again.
I think there's a misconception about Mrs. Basquill. She's helpful, and always listens to other interpretations. If it doesn't make sense, then she'll tell you on the spot, that's for sure - but if it does make sense and it's a way she hasn't thought of before, then she'll find it interesting.
If i had one motto to describe basquill it'd be - "my way or the highway". Shes very inflexible, her interpretations are the only correct interpretations, does not accept any late homework at all. All papers must be turned in according to her format as well. Plays her favorites
I loved Mrs Basquill. She was the first english teacher I had that actually took the time to explain everything. She cared what her students thought and encouraged us to think outside the box. Her class was the first time I ever enjoyed english! She definitely makes you work for your grades, but I left her class with a lot more than a letter on my report card.
a really good teacher, and not one to let herself only grade her favorites well. by far the best english teacher at charter.
Mrs. Basquill can be a very difficult teacher at times, especially when it comes to the numerous pop quizzes, essays, and tests. But, overall, I believe she has a firm understanding of what she is teaching her students. Although she may tend to push her view on you in the end, class discussion is always welcome, and your opinions DO matter. She is a wonderful teacher. Even if you get a B or C, it doesn't matter because you leave that class with more than when you entered it.
I think mrs. basquill is the best english teacher at charter, and she made shakespeare easy and interesting, she also gets really excited about her subject which is cool, though her essays are scary
Mrs. Basquill was honestly the best teacher I've ever had. She was a fair teacher and was very understanding. I did not find her to be close-minded to the ideas of others at all (in fact, I recieved my best grades when I did show my own opinions, rather than simply repeating class discussion). In comparison to the other English teachers I've had (Mervine, Towers/Hollstien and Rescingna) she is the best BY FAR. All she asks is that you take her class reasonably seriously.
She was horrible. She was was way to uptight and strict. She was sometimes helpful but she was harsh.
her class is easy...if you tell her you hate math and science...its def "my way or the highway" in that class..you're opinions do not matter, just repeat her opinions. And if she happens to hate you...your grade will plummet, so always stay on her good side
How in the world can Ms. Sell get a higher rating than Ms. Towers? Ms. Sell is a great teacher, her assignments are helpful, and she is willing to EXPLAIN to students who are off track and take the opinions of others into account. Understandably, however, she doesn't like to waste time with students who have lame excuses as to why they are right, just to imrove their grades.
I think she still labors under the delusion that her opinions are "always" right. Gives an awful lot of busywork for a non-AP course. Only saving grace (if you can call it that) is that if you DO all of the busywork you'll likely get an A (or a B+)
I liked Ms. Sell alot. Her class was pretty hard, but if you put a fair amount of effort in you got a the grade you deserved. There was alot of debate and discussion, although in the end you had to perscribe to her point of view in essays and such. The problem with the math/science people was that they thought that since they knew calculus they were somehow exempt from knowing how to read and interact with others. She is a good teacher.
She is a difficult teacher and you'll probably hate her while you have her class, but afterwards you'll realize that she taught you a LOT! then you'll thank her
Ms. Sell is an excellent example of the exact opposite of a quality teacher.
ah well if you speak something "out of line" in her class your participation gets docked about 20 points. the work isnt bad as long as u read the material!
Hey you guys.. don't be mad just because you can't handle her class.
she gives a lot of work, but she is a GREAT teacher. she's also not as bad as ppl make her out to be
where to start. she maked us read the worst books. she thinks she is the greatest and no one else's oppinion is worth listening to. what a bad teacher
Miss Sell is an incredible teacher. I have learned more from her than I have in the previous 3 years and this one put together. appreciate her :)
uuugh, sometimes i cant stand her!! shes so picky and she gives so much work. and whats the deal when she asks you an opinion question and u get it wrong
Say you are a Giants fan, you argee with her opinions, and join drama club and the class is a breeze. Otherwise, watch out. Just smile and nod.
Stay organized and turn stuff in on time + Don't voice your opinion, voice hers + DON'T touch her desk = an A.
I learned a lot. All of the work was worth it. Just head your paper like she wants it and don't touch her toys and she'll be cool.
She can be really harsh, and there is way too much work.
Very picky, and her opinion is the only opinion in class and on tests. DON'T speak your mind. Way too much work, and most of it is busywork.
Ms. Sell is the best english teacher i have ever had
She was great to me, just make sure to keep your notebook tidy!!
