Ms. Sklar is a great person, and is very funny, friendly, and easy to talk to. She's also extremely knowledgeable, a former lawyer. Unfortunately she doesn't seem to really try as a teacher, using almost the same exact lesson plans she has for the last 15+ years, and never updating her tests even if they are outdated or confusing. She often gives little to no information about assignments or test dates, directing students to her website (which is also never changed, just date-adjusted)
Had her for honors sophomore English, she may not give a lot of instructions in class, but if you talk to her after class about a project/essay, she is very helpful and will clarify anything for you.
She's a very nice and helpful teacher. Though her honors freshman class isn't easy (she can be a tough grader plus her tests are hard), it's worth being in her class. The only thing is, you're pretty much on your own for essay writing.
Sklar is an awesome teacher. Her class is engaging and challenging.
Mrs.Sklar was the best teacher that I have ever had!!!! At the beginning my freshman year I was not a great student. Mrs.Sklar helped me to become a better writer. She wrote very helpful comments on my essays and gave me great tips for studying. For the remainder of my high school years I was getting A's on all my tests and eventually I got into my dream college!!!! Thank you so much Mrs.Sklar for everything.
Her method can be a bit of a shock to some students because she grades more holistically than you'll be used to. She will look more at your ideas than your presentation, so memorizing speeches or using large vocab wont impress her. The people who struggle in her class often times ask pointed questions but expect her to be a pushover. She was a lawyer before teaching, a very smart lady, so you shouldn't talk down to her or try to fool her. AP/Hon classes dont usually have a lot of lectures btw.
Horrible teacher, if I would even call her a teacher. I did not learn anything and taking Honors was just a waste of my time. She is very biased on grading papers and only gives you a good grade if she agrees with your thesis, not based on the content of your writing. Sklar spends more time on her comp civics team and should not be an english teacher. She's nice but gets defensive when you ask questions.
This is not personal at all, but in my experience Sklar didn't really teach. Sometimes she did long lectures but that was very rare. The class was basically a free period... she really should be stricter about certain things. Most days consisted of people on their phones/laptops playing games or going on Instagram, eating, doing hw from other classes, etc. Don't get me wrong; she's one of the nicest people. But you really don't learn much at all.
She's awesome! I learned so much from her. All the reviewers who gave her low ratings should have asked her for help! I couldn't have asked for a better teacher.
Man she is the worst ever.. she literally wants to play favorites and if you ask a lot of question about essays she will feel like you are blamig her or something.. defensive lady and a useless class.. I had Randazzo and she was amazing. sklar is shi
had sklar freshman and sophomore English
She is a really nice person individually, but provides little to no instruction on projects and essays and grades them harshly. She doesnt pay any attention to what you do in class
She sucks as a teacher, but she is very sweet and hilarious. But dont let that fool you, you DONT want her as your teacher.
Honors sophomore English was a joke. Learned more in one day of junior English than the whole year in her class.
Her honors sophomore english class is about a thousand times more difficult than AP Lang or AP Lit. If you can survive her class with a C or better, you'll do fine in AP Lang. :) She's super sweet and smart, but her tests
she plays favorites like no other. but if you just wanna have fun, stay in her class. you will learn nothing.
Nice person but horrible teacher. Trust me, if you get her try to switch out. She was not helpful at all...no one in the class knew what was going on. We would do nothing for weeks and then all of a sudden there would be a huge assignment that made things very stressful. There wasn't a single day that she would actually stand up and teach a lesson. Also, she tends to pick favorites and act very helpful to them. Plus she's a very hard essay grader. Overall, I hated my experience in that class.
Oh Ms. Sklar. I have her for freshmen honors. She's really nice and funny and you'll have a good time in her class. But, she doesn't explain anything (like tests, homework, assignments) so make sure you check her calender frequently.
Shes also a super, duper hard grader on essays. She will kill you if you have any grammar mistakes :( also, her tests are pretty hard.
But, she's really nice!
Great teacher :) I had her for Honors English in soph. You learn so much from her, and she really prepares you for AP Lang! She does tend to pick favorites though, and is pretty harsh in how she grades essays.
Ms. Skalr is not only one of the greatest teachers i have ever had but she also a great friend and a incredibly nice person to talk to.
see the thing with Sklar is that u gotta understand her for people and as with any other teacher she wont help you unless you ask because she doesnt know that you need help
Me and Mrs. Sklar were homies. She's a difficult grader on essays and some tests, but I had fun in that class.
Sklar rocks. I hardly feel im in honors! she grades hard, but its worth it. Her class is one of my best.
What makes Mrs. Sklar such an amazing teacher is that even though her class is so much fun, you never forget that it's honors English. I can tell that I'm going to learn a lot from her this year.
really goes out of her way to help her students learn - she basically taught me how to write essays, and she also takes her students seriously, not like other teachers.
She has Honors students and she's nice...but...not much actual teaching goes on...just lots of conversation...cushy job...
gets the job done... i can tell she was too nice to be a lawyer
The nicest teacher i've ever met, she's really quirky and funny. She pulled the entire class into a family by the end of the year and being in her class was an amazing freshman experience.
She is an amazing, kind, helpful teacher who cares about her students. I had her in my academy soph year, really enjoyed her. So smart!
Not too good. Seems more concerned with being well-liked and "indie" than in actually teaching us what we're supposed to learn. Cool, I guess, unless you care about falling behind other students...
talk about not actually TEACHING anything....she acts like a sub who doesnt have lesson plans and cant answer questions..such a bad teacher.but nice i miss ms.wilder so much, now thats a good teacher.
I loved her class. Really nice person but not a pushover. I hope I get her for Social Justice...
so nice and fun but such a hard grader! we get off topic so easily
She's nice but doesn't do as much as some other teachers.
she is a really hard hn english teacher, but her humor and good teaching skills make everything so much fun. lol. she so funny too!
she's such a hard grader but her class is so fun and we never really stay on topic, the class is hilarious!
I love her. She's a hard grader but admits it...Triest her best to make class fun, but still stay on-topic.
Ms. Sklar is the BEST teacher ever!!! She can get so off topic but be funny & time consuming at the same time, which I LOVE! And you learn so much from her too!
Ms Sklar is so awesome. Her only sophomore classes this yr are public and human services, and we in per 6 LUV HER!!! She's so easy, fun to talk with, and we actually undertand her!
ehh... she's okay. She has her favorites and grades really hard :(
Love Ms. Skalr, had her for Journalism. Funny, Cool, Hippie at heart. :)
MS SKLAR IS/WAS THE BEST AND SMARTEST TEACHER EVVERRRR! I LOVE YOU MS SKLAR
i had her when she was pregnant...really funny to see the nicest teacher get moody for no reason
