She is a nice person but she lacks in terms of being an AP English teacher. I think that she should just teach regular English because in all honesty, I felt that the class was easier than a regular English class -which isn't a good thing if you're taking AP in hopes of actually advancing your writing skills. We wasted time away with insignificant activities and at times, I feel that she half asses her lesson plans. Her assignments aren't helpful and you need to depend on self study for the AP.
For an AP class, this was so light. Like easy as fabreeze. For the AP lang test though, make sure you actually practice and get a book. she is useless for that exam.
Terrible teacher, to be honest--there was very little material for us to work on and to develop our writing effectively, and with greater structural integrity and precision and critical thinking, as was expected of the AP and the class in general.
Not very good, to be honest. As a few others have pointed out, Mrs.Pollicino spends little time on initiating her students into the principles of rhetorical analysis and more on merely practicing and making use of them. Her strategy is effective, nonetheless, though not without any self-studying to compensate for their weaknesses and inadequacies--mainly one of superficial and uneven coverage of rhetoric. Not enough time on actual composition, and too much on creative and group activities.
I'll be concise. Mrs. Policino's teaching style, which is very relaxing--it is like the unveiling and subtle descent of a balsam--favors the more resourceful student who is able to extrapolate much insight from the group discussions and individual readings and annotations than those who rely on a teacher to do so. And yes, there are times where she doesn't cover some of the details. Unfortunately, self-resort is, with such a vacancy, the only resort left.
Pros: shes a very nice and easygoing teacher. she is very understanding and easy to talk to. Cons: i dont think she prepares enough for the AP eng exam. i dont have any eng notes whatsoever and i feel that she doesnt really teach us how to write well. as for essays, she def. doesnt give higher grades to females than males. i would say shes a fair grader. overall, i like ms. policino but i feel that she needs to really teach more about writing high-quality essays.
pretty helpful teacher in my opinion, shes really nice to freshmen and is very understanding, she might get boring sometimes but it really depends if your interested in english or not. she gives fairly resonable grades.
A great teacher, really helpful and not strict, doesn't penalize for late assignments and very understanding. Keeps class interesting and not boring without making it difficult, would love to get again as a senior.
Ms. Policino is a very unfair grader. Gives favorable grades to female students and puts down male students.
Definitely favors students and is never objective. She calls on students a lot but calls on the kids she doesnt like last, and at other times doesnt even call on them.Yeah right, participation counts.... she never calls on me
During parent teacher conference, she told my parents that if I had participated more, I could of gotten a 99 instead of a 91... She's an OK teacher, but she calls on people too much and makes us do plays which I hate. I put a lot of effort and spoke really loud for one of the plays and she gave me a B- for my part...
Shes OK. Her class is fairly easy, tests are not that common but they go in depth and matter quite a bit. She gives out homework once a week. I doubt participation has any effect on our grades. Shes a lenient grader 1st mp but then starts getting harsher and harsher. She is a pleasure to talk to when you need help. She makes us read incredibly boring books. I hate Othello. She makes us do projects fairly often. Overall, I'd give her a 8/10.
i had her my senior year and she was a really easy professor, i didn't go to class much but i always aced the tests and i did my work and she gave me 85+. I didn't do one of her presentations which was like a "term paper" but i took the hit to my grade, but it didn't damage it much. I think she's a pretty easy teacher if you know what you're doing. How hard can class be?
One of the most biased and worst teachers I have ever had. She is such an unfair grader sometimes. Her class is boring and I'm not learning much right now. She was ok first mp, then second mp she started being a lot stricter with her grades. On tests, she takes off many points and then when you ask her about it she says oops and that it was a big mistake. Yeah right. There are a bunch of teachers that should get fired, and shes definitely one of them.
She's a good teacher, but I feel that I haven't learned much from her. Participate and you will be fine. And group projects, do your part because she grades people individually.
i get the feeling she doesnt really care about us if we need extra help..she seems nice though
really nice and a fair grader. if you participate, you get such a better grade.
Great teacher...She seems very mellow and calm. SHe looks like she's still in high school but she's organized...Nothing that special but still very enjoyable class
awesome teacher. her class is way easy if you do all your homework and participate.
People that are complaininjg about her class are wrong. She grades hard the first term and grades a lot higher second. Maybe if you want a good grade, do all your hw's and you actually have to be good at english. That is, learn the vocab, read the books, and proofread your essays thats all. By the end, of second term, if you dont have a decent grade, your not showing enough effort.- Rey
shes a pretty good teacher. not bad at all. just write good essays.
grrr i hate her so much. the way she grades us is horrible
She is mad uncool. She gave me a 75 and told my group we forgot our music. To bad we dont switch teachers. I wish i couls switch and now we are reading a bad book and i had to play the part of Cooper, how uncool. Leave me alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very nice and helpful, but sometimes people didn't take her seriously. Great teacher.
BEST TEACHER!! very nice person, and has a great attitude!!
shes one of the nicest. teaches good, trust? people, innocent(?), niiiiiiiiiice and all those sweeet stuffs. hope i had her again. would love it
madd kewl..she realli noes how to teach nd helps out A LOT..
shes sweet she doesnt repremand som1 harshly for nething which is kewl. She is a good teacher and she assigns good bbooks but they arent up to age level
nICE LADY A SWEET INNOCENT WOMAN. nOT BAD TEACHING. WISH I HAVE HER AGAIN. TALKS IN A MONOTONE THOUGH.
she is nice and doesnt yell or get annoyed so far...
Her tests and essay are long and hard. It took her a whole year to know my name. (had her for two terms)
Compared to the english department she's a gift (save Ms. Lerhman/Zipper they own too) she seems shy though, but she's forms a good class. Weird projekts though
I liked Ms. Galvin, I just couldn't stand the books she chose for class.
Her class was very boring but she was nice. She passed me so shes cool!!!
She's young and a fair grader. Her class is an easy 85, 90 if you try.
Interesting lessons and books are discussed, making it one of the better classes
she's the coolest! I love Ms. Galvin!!! (And she's not half bad looking either)
Miss Galvin can be cool at times but she can also be very stank.
i love ms. galvin! i think she's a really awesome teacher!
she is SO nice and gives interesting projects, i did so good in her class
She's nice and let me and my friend get away with lots of stuff.
she's the kind of teacher that's all sweet and stuff until it comes to rep. card
