Honors chemistry with Mr. Sogo last year was most interesting class I've ever taken. The labs are very open to creativity and exploration. However, the lack of guidelines in labs also means a much higher difficulty. Mr. Sogo is clearly a genius and is extremely overqualified, but as some have said, his impatience can be intimidating. He does tend to favor the A students, but great teacher and interesting socratic teaching style. That said, if you want to learn a lot, take this class.
If you've read the comment below, then it is fitting to say that I am Benjamin Sharp. Sogo is a great teacher. He goes far beyond the necessary to answer scientific questions, and even his vague answers are cliff-hangers that leave genuinely curious students craving more. Prepare to think loads in this class if you want to earn (yes, earn) your grade. If you ask thought-provoking questions and show interest (i.e. stay after school for labs) you should get all you want out of this class.
mr. sogo is a great teacher (if youre smart, if not dont take this class). hes super cute but his lack of patience makes him generally unapproachable unless youre benjamin sharp or andrew keyser. but creds to him because this is by far the most fun and interesting class ive ever taken.
Mr. Sogo is the most interesting teacher i've ever had in my life. His honors chemistry class has been my favorite class at LBHS. GO SOGO!
only cares about the kids who have As, no interest in helping anyone else
Very intelligent but if your not in the top of your class he doesnt like you and is not willing to help you.
Sogo is a gem. He is absolutely BRILLIANT and low-key hilarious. He really knows his stuff, so you should pay close attention to his lectures and be sure to take notes. The best way to get on his good side is to ask intelligent questions, he really lights up when he gets into the science- you can tell it's his passion. However he will not baby you and will encourage you to find your own answers/solutions, especially during labs. He was better than a lot of my college professors. Go sogo! :)
Sogo is the most intelligent, well-rounded person I've ever encountered. Extremely over qualified to be a high school teacher. He's very dedicated and goes beyond what is expected. He will do anything to enhance education. I cannot put into words how much I admire Sogo.
Sogo is the best and definitely way over qualified for a high school teacher. The class was hard but I learned a lot.
Has a very unique teaching style. Some love it and others do not like it.
I believe Mr. Sogo's teacher style has helped me as a general individual. He forces you to use both the scientific method and general thought processes to deduce factors and get to the final product.
Sogo is seriously (seriously) my idol. He is so intelligent in both chemistry and everything else, and he really (really) cares about his students both academically and personally
Good teacher. Not much patience for kids below the smartest 10% bracket. Can be arrogant one-on-one.
He has so much energy. It's a blast to be in his class.
