She knows her chemistry but she really sucks at explaining. Unless you're good at studying from the textbook by yourself, you're pretty much screwed. She only puts formulas and steps on board. I had her for AP CHEM and holy crap...those tests...they were inhumane. She gives daily quizzes which I think are pretty easy since she goes over the question in class but changes the format or numbers. She assigns mad homework and never really goes over it. She just tells kids to put it on the board.

She's a bit too introverted and withdrawn to be teaching effectively. I'd say she should improve on opening up to her students more and focusing on the lesson.

I had a really good experience in her class because I understood all of the material really well, but I recognize that some people weren't as lucky. Her class was pretty straightforward and understandable, but I admit it was less than exciting. I know a lot of people were confused in her class, but I honestly think that is more to do with the subject than her. Some people didn't make that much of an effort and then got lost and tended to blame her.

Mrs. Mehlman actually teaches well, but there are unfortunately to many slackers that complain about her and hate her. I payed attention in her class, did the homework, and had a high average. Her tests are regents questions, so really easy. Her class is more of a lecture. Too many people complain about lack of notes, but you should take notes on what she says. What do you think college lectures are going to be like? Are you just going to sit there and do nothing? Blame yourself not her lessons.

Ms.Mehlman is terrible at teaching students. She never clarifies anything when I ask her questions. If you do her homework you'll somewhat get through her class but she roasts the hell out of you if you fail a quiz or a test. Shes not the best chemistry teacher but not the worst.

Susan is a horrible teacher. She doesn't explain anything before tests, and gives lousy review sheets. She mistook one of my homeworks as a test, how dumb do you need to be to make that mistake. She may act nice, but if you try to talk to her about your grades she gets extremely pissed off and feisty. If I could get this teacher fired, I would. Thank you.

Worse teacher I ever had. I reported her twice when I had her for Medical Art (we drew freaking cheerios) and 5 times when I had her for AP Chemistry. She doesn't teach so prepare to educate yourself. She spends two periods going over HW questions which are pretty simple but then the test are incrediably difficult. DO NOT REPORT THIS WOMAN. SHE WILL MAKE YOUR LIFE HELL. She once took 10 pts off of a 20 pt quiz because she mistook my decimal for a multiplication sign???

I had her a couple years ago for regents chem when lab teachers weren't separate from class teachers and it wasn't the best experience. Labs were a complete mess because she didn't let us take them home and couldn't manage prelab prep. I did well only because I googled almost everything. The "do nows" were complete BS and explanations for Q's dragged on forever due to both her apparent self doubt and all the stupid students. Sure she is nice but she is not a very competent instructor.

Worst and most difficult teacher in Tech. AP Chem is hard and Mehlman does not help you in any way. If you cant transfer out, stick to videos and make sure you understand all the textbook questions. She always has tutoring available, so go only if you don't think you'll make a fool out of yourself cause she will belittle you for being stupid. Her tests are difficult. She literally has no powerpoints. Its just you, her and the textbook. Sucks right? I cried in her class like twice.

Mehlman is not a bad teacher. If you actually pay attention in class, you will breeze through her tests. She may be a bit boring but if u really try, you will know everything for her tests. And her tests are just regents questions. Its not bad. Just pay attention and do the homework. Her homework is usually no more than five or six questions from the TB. Actually do them because they help tremendously. And if you don't understand something, just raise your hand. Her class is what you make of it.

She seems like a knowledgable person, but is unclear on some instructions, possibly a unfair grader...(got an 80 on the first lab...it was freakin scenarios for lab safety....(How the f do you give someone less than a 90 for that???)

She is the boring-est, annoying-est, worst teacher ever. She cannot teach even if her life depended on it. She is unorganized and her "methods" suck. If you have her, leave. Participation doesn't mean anything. She is rude and disrespectful. If she doesn't like you, she will never like you. Since she teaches Gateway, she thinks that the regents class she has are up to the standards as the ap kids. if u dont ask any questions and just sit there with a questioning face she will just move on.

Her teaching method is so bad, and wastes so much time teaching the simpliest of things like significant digits which she took over 2 weeks to teach where kids were still having trouble with it. The textbook gave a much easier way at teaching it than her 'method'. I am literally learning from my classmates, friends, internet, and textbook, every other way except from her class. So my advice to you is, study hard in her class

Truthfully, she is one of the nicest teachers you'll ever have in Tech. However, her lectures aren't as appealing because it's mostly going over homework questions from the textbook. Not that it's hard but these questions don't prepare you enough for her tests which are MUCH harder. I think most of the negative feedbacks are from the fact that she gives a quiz every single day, and I mean it! But she's really cool and you'll find that the AP test is much easier than her class tests. "Onward!"

she was the reason i got an 5 on the AP, in fact mehlman's class had more 5s than any other teacher. Which means if you are complaining about her class, then you need to face the truth that you are probably really stupid or you need to rethink your life because learning is not a skill you possess.

She is a tough teacher. However, she knows her chemistry and forces you to put effort in learning the material on your own outside of class. I had group study sessions with peers and did a lot of practice and reading and got an A. Her tests are multiple choice and long problem parts and you have to know what you are doing. It'll be tough, but it is an AP class so use it to learn the subject well. Her class notes and tests still help me with college chemistry and its become easier now. She is :).

Ms. Mehlman is an awesome AP Chem teacher. She was very helpful; if you didn't understand anything and bothered to ask her, she would make it clear. For those who do poorly in her class, it's your own fault because AP Chem is supposed to be a college level course and you should be studying on your own in the first place. If you do the HW, then the class is just plain fun. She doesn't give much notes, but you don't need it if you have the textbook. Just take your own notes if you need it. =]
