She was honestly a genius at biology who also had a passion for teaching. She made everyone in her class so much smarter. If you paid attention and did the work, you would be taught incredibly well. It is very saddening that she died. Even though I only had her for 2 months, I feel lucky to have met her and been her student.
Dr. Offner was a total genius and the best teacher at LHS. I feel SO lucky that I had her as a teacher.
Dr. Offner's class was really difficult, but massively rewarding. If you do your work and take notes, you'll do very well in the class, as well as on the exam. She is the most passionate teacher I've ever met at LHS, and just being in a room with her seems to raise everyone's IQ. She is, without a doubt, one of the most intelligent and dedicated people at the school. If she is your teacher, you should feel personally honored.
Dr. Offner is, without a doubt, the most capable and knowledgeable teacher ever employed at Lexington High School. She really knows her biology, and while her tests require many hours of studying, one could argue that this itself is the benefit. By demanding high energy and high expectations, results are produced on the AP test as well as all our other subjects. Truly a blessing to have the opportunity to learn from her; she is a teacher like no other.
Dr. Offner is the best teacher I have ever had. Her class is not easy, by any means, she makes you work hard. Any student who pays attention will get a 5 on the AP Bio exam. If you get Dr. Offner, prepare to work hard but learn more than you could imagine to learn about biology. A freshman college course offered for sophomores at Lexington High School. I wish I could retake this class and have another year with the fantastic humble biology teacher :)
Doc Offs was probably the best science teacher I've ever had. I had her for level 1 and while the class was kind of boring, she made it hilarious and really easy to do well. We had a lot of fun and I think most people ended up with really good grades.
Truly the favorite teacher I've ever had. Knows more about the subject than anyone has any right to. Truly passionate about the subject. Considering she helps to WRITE the AP test, you'll be more than prepared for it. Make sure you pay attention in class and read the book, or else you'll be crushed by her tests though. The projects will keep your grade up, but the tests are extremely difficult. Just be ready, and you'll have one of the best years ever.
I cannot reiterate the importance of reading the book. It is not to be taken lightly. Like that person said, it is your Bible/Quran/Torah. I took meticulous notes, I probably have volumes just on evolution alone. But be assured, Offner rocks. She took us to Harvard while the other classes weren't able to go (she has connections). She really cares about everyone. For the AP, you'll do fine. If you don't get a 5, she'll come to your house and scream at you. Just kidding. You'll definitely get a 5.
It's really not that hard to get a good grade in her class if you study the book. The book is your Bible/Torah/Quran. Get on her good side at the beginning of the year and then she'll grade you nicely. She's obsessed with phages and phylo but that's okay... Basically as long as you study the textbook a LOT you'll do just fine. For the AP test, you're fine after taking all of her MC and essay questions on the tests. I'd still get a book to learn stuff we skim over (behavior).
Where do I begin? I loved this class so much all thanks to the Dr. She is passionate about bio and its obvious. Agreed with everyone, she prepares you VERY well for the AP exam. Do everything she says. Read the book. There is no way you can pass her class, or the AP for that matter, unless you take your reading very seriously. Start studying for the AP a month in advance and you'll ace it. My recommendation is to buy a Cliffs or Barron's book-- personally used Cliffs and credit that for my 5.
DR.Offner is the best teacheR i've eveR had, she's veRy pRoffesional and lives foR teaching. all the people who call heR bad names pRobably aRe just the tRouble makeRs in class with a lack of hoRizon.
Very easy to get a good grade if you study for tests and do what she tells you re: scifair. Intimidating at first, but don't worry.
awesome teacher. really tough tests, but if you study the book you'll be fine. explains concepts really well. funny at times and really sweet.
Epic bio teacher, prepares students for the AP exam like no other. She loves teaching and is very positive. Mostly, she just wants you to learn something during lecture, and to get to see things work in lab. she always tells her students, "you guys are the best."
She is a great lecturer, and helps you learn a lot! She loves teaching and puts a lot of effort into her job, and into helping students even outside of biology class.
complainers- you chose ap bio, 'course it's tough. she prepared me for my first ap, she puts time into phylo and phage clubs, great teacher
its only the middle of the year, by Dr. Offner seems like a pretty good teacher so far b/c she's willing to give you chances, help you with science fair stuff, etc. i can tell she's very knowledgeable even though she just lectures for the WHOLE ENTIRE CLASS! she's a fair grader though and there are many ways to improve your grade! she sometimes mean and strict, but overall nice for an old lady.
her class is... difficult to say the least (i'm in AP.) she tries very hard but almost all of what she lectures goes over our heads. she expects too much from her students, and her grading on the essays is very ambiguous. while i hear she prepares you excellently for the AP, the amount of work you have to put in for this class is a little frightening.
Very good as an AP teacher. She is very intense but at the end of the year, you really know biology. SHe also types up her notes in case you miss a lecture.
She know her stuff, but unfortunately she cannot teach and has an awful personality.
Amazing passion for science and for helping all of her students. Her lectures can be a little bit dull at times but the notes she gives are incredible. She cares about all of her students and is one the sweetest old ladies I have ever met. The tests are a bit tricky but she allows countless opportunities to raise your grade (extra credit, labs). She is very knowledgable and can help tremendously with your science fair project. Excellent preparation for the AP,gauranteed a 5. AMAZING TEACHER AND PERSON!
she is cruel and literally screams at her students, but she ABSOLUTELY LOVES science and prepares you extraordinarily for the ap exam
her tests are impossible and completely unfair. her classes are probably the worst ever and extremely boring!!!
I had her for ap and she was tough, but she very smart and really knows her stuff. Her lectures are boring but she passes out notes to read off of which is very helpful.
I have her for level one and it's the easiest class i've ever taken. if you take down the notes and do her review sheets and know the textbook a little you will do well.
Those who say she hates teaching are not paying attention. She has STARS in her eyes when she lectures! She is SO enthusiastic and really helpful. Challenging, but you will learn a ton
She is excellent to the AP students. You get 5s and learn a lot. It's really hard though- As for lvl1 I think it is unequal treatment, she's tough on them and not as nice. Very good Teacher regardless
Amazing teacher. She loves and knows her stuff. I had her for Ap and learned loads. I didn't like bio until I got her...Hard tests, but doable. one of my best teachers ever.
Shes SO into bio that although you may never pass her tests, you will learn tons. She really cares and knows what shes talking about. She's devoted her life to teaching us bio.
Are we talking about the same teacher???? She hates teaching, shoots kids down when we ask a question, and all she cares about is her stupid phage research!
She probably is a very good AP teacher, but I have her for regular and she is way to demanding
good teacher...You'll learn alot and get a 5 on the ap...
Wonderful teacher. Passionate about bio and willing to support and encourage her student. You must be serious about the subject in order to succeed. The course is challenging.
knows her stuff really well and loves her job, and it shows. but she's old and can be very hard. but still a very good teacher, learned a lot.
She's wonderful! PASSIONATE about her subject and very understanding. Her tests are challenging, but if you want to learn Bio, her class is the place.
yes, she knows her stuff and if what you want from bology is a good grade on the AP-she's the one for you. But there is more to biology than the APtest
She is the best teacher ive had at lhs. shes admireable, she knows her stuff and teaches us what we need to know.she prepares us for tests and grades fairly.
One of the best teachers I had in high school. she cares so much abotu ehr students and subject that it is awe inspiring
She's okay, knows her stuff, not that hard. She's just a little too weird, and her catchphrases, which are funny at first, get quite annoying
Dr.Offner has this way to interest you in bio. she has this spark in her eyes and is so excited about everything she teaches- that is contageous
A challenging but rewarding class. The best AP Bio teacher at LHS. Most kids got 5's and an A or a B. Never learned so much in my life.
she knew her stuff ( IM NOT MAKIN THIS UP!) but she was wicked easy i dont think i did any hw the whole year or studied for a test got A's all four quarters
SHE IS VERY DEVOTED CAREING PERSON BUT I DO THINK SHE IS VERY HARD!!
Dr Offer really knows her stuff. She's definitely...a character, and her catchphrases are amusing (I'm not making this up!) but she really does know EVERYTHING
