Obviously, whether you like her or not entirely depends on what you qualify as a good teacher. If you're someone who already enjoys reading/writing and does it well, and just wants someone who gives an easy A and time to relax with a book in her class, she's good. However, I have seen kids fail in her class, and they end up calling her lazy and place most of the blame on her. But, I must admit that had I not been academically prepared prior, I probably would've been equally infuriated.
She gave us a lot of busy work and the reading logs and responses are horrible, but I kind of learned to love her end of the day dancing and helpfulness if you don't understand an assignment. Fourth quarter is super easy and she talks about "SOL prep" a lot. Pretty good teacher overall I'd say.
One of the best 7th grade teachers at longfellow!
She gives us minimal easy homework and is nice. She is great and totally focused. I really recommend her.
Easily the worst teacher at LMS. She did not teach any thing at all the whole school year. I am an AAP student so maybe she tried to not to goofed off in my class, but my friends who were not in AAP classes told me that Ms. M spent ENTIRE class time and lancer time sitting in her desk grading student papers from her out side teaching/tutoring jobs (@Discovery Learning, etc.)
Ms Maldonado assigns busy work in class and for homework, and every bit of it is graded. Harshly. Reading Logs count for A LOT of your grade and points are taken off writing assingments for the most trivial of reasons like the number of sentences in a paragraph, comma splices, too much/little alliteration, etc. She made my whole class write an essay in which we were not allowed to use ANY form of the verb 'to be'. Turning in assignments late drops a letter grade for every day past the deadline.
ok so ms Maldonado was my teacher last year when I was a sevie. she gave me an f on just about everything I wrote up, and I even asked another teacher to read them first to make sure they were good enough, and the paper would still not be good enough for her. she tries hard to be the fav teacher but because she can't understand things from other people's point of view. she teaches you just about nothing except how to keep getting an f. I hated her so much.
She gives us reading logs all year, expecting for the students who can't do homework that was assigned 3 weeks ago with time in class to be able to keep it. I really wish that she did not make us do reading logs, it makes them feel like a chore that we just need to get out of the way. She is extremely nice and is able to boil down topics if we need the extra explanation, she really should just give us an assignment on Tuesday and then pick it up on Monday, it would make class much better.
I love her and she doesn't even like me which is saying something. She is sooooo sweet and despite what others may say, she is a very knowledgeable adult and I've really enjoyed being her student.
She has a slight lisp so it makes it kinda hard to understand her just do really really really good job with your reading log. And she picks favorites, I am one of her favorites. A way to get her to like you is to ask her what books she thinks that you should read. She loves that. Spend a little time with her talking a tiny bit and boom your golden. She doesn't really teach much though but she is a lot of fun.
Mrs. Maldonado is the best English teacher I could have ever asked for in seventh grade. Keeping up with reading logs are the key to the class. In the middle of the year, it may seem like you aren't learning anything, however, when you take the SOL you will find out you learned a lot more than you thought. All you have to do to learn and get an A in this class is to keep up with reading logs, and pay attention in class.
I think Ms. Maldonado had good intentions, but I feel like she's not that knowledgeable. If we were a similar age, I'd love having her as a reading buddy, but the grammar she taught us goes completely against what I've learned in the past. The reading logs were tedious, but helpful. Our classwork was all busy-work; I didn't feel like I was learning.
she is a pretty nice teacher, and almost gives no tests. she's not very clear tho and said um alot, and she gives c's a lot if u don't follow the rules(which there are alot of).if u luv reading, she's ur teacher cuz she has a lot of recommendations.
Personally, I don't find the concept of SSR for half of the class useful. I haven't learned much, sometimes it can be very dull and straight from the textbook with worksheet after worksheet.
All we did in the class was read and do worksheets everyday. We barley learned anything.
She would give us worksheet after worksheet, and I don't think the whole 'reading log' thing was a good idea. She doesn't even read it, she just signs it. She sits around and gives us so many worksheets. I needed to go to the bathroom during SR&R and she didn't let me go. Not really a good teacher, but just do your work and you'll be fine.
1. pointless reading logs (not properly graded)
2. Wanting a "textbook" answer for pointless discussions and questions.
It was actually hard for me to get myself to do these assignments.
shes a good reader, but doesnt really know anything. Even when you fill everything out correctly (on the reading logs) ,she will give you a c for no apparent reason. Picky as well(mostly worksheets) but she helps us when we need help with something.
I can't tell you even though she pushed us to read how this has helped me. Yea, maybe her jokes a out there but she did keep my attention! I know read books that interest me. Stay cool Ms. M!
Ms. Maldonado is my favorite teacher. I learned so much this year, and am excited to be going to 8th grade. However, I do not think my 8th grade English teacher will be as fun and unique as Ms. Maldonado. 7th Graders are fortunate to have a teacher that actually pushes them to excel!!
She doesn't teach us ANYTHING!!!!! She just gives us worksheet, after worksheet, after worksheet, after worksheet, after worksheet, etc. She makes really weird faces and is annoying.
She was nice but an awful teacher, she will not teach you a thing and all her tests, projects, and assignments are impossible.
Ms. Maldonado made us read for half the class.... Nice and tries to be funny but picks favorites. Just do lots of reading logs and shell love you. Boring class. Read cheaper by the dozen.
she gave alot of work but, if you kiss up to her, she doesnt demand much of you and is nice to you. she has favorites.
You'll like her more after you leave her class for 8th grade
she gives alot of work and she always says jokes that aren't funny and then she says "you're supposed to laugh!" but she teaches the stuff right i learned alot from her
Nice but gave a lot of work out. She liked me so it was ok.
nice lady, doesnt teach much and is kinda a cook. shell help if you ask for it. overall nice lady
shes nice but she picks favorites and laughs at her own jokes its kinda annoying but very nice
She loved me, so naturally I really liked her. But she doesn't really teach, she'll just give you something and sit back and relax... but she's still one of my favorites.
Mrs. Maldonado is acutally one of the teachers I liked. If you do your work she will be nice. Though she can get irritated at some points.
Shes pretty cool, but laffs at her own jokes a little too much.
i like her shes a good teacher and realy helpful. her class isnt easy but she was soo nice and it was fun having her as a teacher a few years ago
Maldonado is not very good. She THINKS she is hilarious when shes not funny AT ALL. She laughs at her OWN jokes, while she may think the class is laughing w/her, they are laughing AT HER!!
Mrs Maldonado herself is really nice! but what she teaches SUCKS! ITS SOOO BORING! WE NEVER LEARN ANYTHING!if what she teached was more interesting then the class would be really cool! cuz she is nice
i hate her because i dont think she likes me at all. sometimes i look up from my work and i se her glaring at me. she gave me a B in ssr. HOW CAN U GET A B IN SSR? ALL IT IS IS SILENT READING!!!
I like her. Once when she was giving a test, she changed it into an open book test because we had lots of other tests that day/week. She tried to be fair, and she doesn't go on and on with lectures.
For all of you guys: Out of the Dust is a required book for 7th graders. She's really nice, although she's strict on grades, you can mangage them by make ups. I liked her class before I moved to GT.
shes a horrible teacher its an easy class but its the most boring. you dont do anything all you do is read for a year and do worksheets every once in a while and she sits at her computer all day
she doesn't do anything to teach us. she is always at her computer. and i agree, although i like doing nothing for a while i know that it is not good for our education. shes also weird &laughs a lot.
SHe's so nice! Well, i like her! SHe's has fun activivtes to do in her class but whatever!!
Hey for a great laugh- ask her about her ferrets. Oh yeah, don't hesitate to jut your desk out when she's passing so you can get the classic MALDONADO HIPS!!
needs to do more teaching! whats the point in being in honors english if all we do is SSR and lit circles?
i heard that her soda is diluted with alchohol and that she plays poker during class.
SHE ACTUALLY THINX SHE IS FUNNY that is wat is so funnny
shes the best teacher on the lions team. i hate all my other teachers.
her clas is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo BORING!!!!!!!
Ms.Maldonado sometimes can givout a little too easy ws but she is really nice.I think she is a good teacher so far.
i dunno yet we still have the whole year, right now shes seems really mean but hopefully che will get better! if not i'm switching classes
she is nice but in no way do i consider her a teacher becuase she simply did not teach. We read half the period.she never talk about what we were doing in class.we just did ws.
She is nice, but definately needs to be more involved in the class and not hand out so many worksheets. She hasnt had one lesson with her talking this year.
english was OFFICIALLY the most booring subject. she ALWAYS makes me sign the stupid book
did not learn a thing- and i swear it seemed like she had a crush on the kid that sat next to me. she makes it really easy to pass notes though.
She's okay, at first she seems really mean and strict, but she loses hope halfway through, and if she like you, you get an A.
doesnt help you at all, i didnt learn anything cause we just read all of class
I don't have her but she is soooooooooooooo nice. So is her daughter. -AB
Wow, talk about boring! All we did was read in her class!
Wow! She is like the best teacher I have had! She always takes time to help me!
Dude, If you whine about her your gonna love her by the end of the year. Shes way awsome. I had her in 7th grade and theres nobody i'd rather have had then her.
