she is a bad teacher and a bad person, I do not recommend her at all. At the school she has a reputation for being unfair and prejudiced. We often watch movies unrelated to lesson plans and spend 45 minutes a class doing this. The movies are often noneducational and often not in Spanish. Such as we have watched the movie "strictly ballroom" in English, with the justification being the the Spanish family show us Latin dancing.
She makes you translate everything and unless you can learn something foreign to you in 5 minuets then good luck! You learn how to translate in that CLASS but not how to speak.
Sra. Olsen knows how to challenge a student and encourages us to listen to a native speaker as often as is possible. She is proficient in proper grammar and makes learning fun. I could not be more grateful for the experience.
Mrs. Olsen stood in front of my son's class and said, "I'm only here for the money." Enough said. She retired from teaching some time ago and is only there to collect her pay check.
Would not recommend unless you're either fluent or good at Spanish. All her favorites in my class were the Spanish speakers, who were very nice and helped the rest of the class out. She's very condescending and makes her students feel scared to ask questions. Her teaching methods include making the class watch a short video lesson and expect us to already learn everything perfectly within those five minutes and be able to do our work perfectly. Very inefficient.
I ABSOLUTELY HATE HER. SHES SO MEAN IF YOU GET HER I ADVISE YOU TO TRANSFER OUT
Ms. Olsen's methods are not really effective and do not accomodate people with different learning styles. Her teaching in my opinion is "Translation-based," with her focus on translating block texts from Spanish to English, which in my opinion is a really inefficient way of learning how to speak Spanish. Sure, you could learn how to WRITE and TRANSLATE from Eng to Span, but learning to THINK and SPEAK in Spanish is a different topic.
It is dificult to learn in Terry Olsen's class. Students feel disrespected when asking questions
Humiliates people. Need I say more? She definitely has favorites in the class so try to get on her good side early in the year. Okay teacher, but horrible personality and attitude.
best teacher ever easy to get and A...really nice if you don't make her mad...just talk with her and get on good side
i agree with some reviews about how she may humiliate some people with the blunt truth about their work ethic, but as long as you do your homework, classwork, etc., she's pretty nice to you.
she is the worst teacher ever, she likes to humiliate students and is so fake
She got a big atittude problem, she always calls the students sheep and i dont apprecate it at all drop of grade are very often even if u work very hard
aaagh one day you have an A, the next day you're failing, i dunno how she grades, but she acts like we're all stupid and calls us sheep
shes an alright teacher. always has a joke or 2.but calls us sheep if we get up before the bell rings n theres the steady drop of grades of the whole class. lol
I don't understand the negativity that students associate with her. She's hillarious and quite nice, actually. Only class I haven't cut all year.
she's cool and all...but that attitude has got to go...you can be great at spanish, but still...attitude is not there.
