Proof was hard, but it was bearable w him as a teacher. Awesome guy, great to go and talk to during conference
Loved him. Probably my fav teacher at PA. An absolute genius
A really, really good teacher. It's not going to be easy to get a good grade in his class, but it's doable. He knows what he's talking about, and he seems really eager to share it. Just a warning, though- he never lets you out of class on time, so you'll always be late to your next period class.
I don't know why I did well in Mr. Hodgson's class. He kind of just wrote, "good job" but never bothered to tell me what I did well so I never knew how to improve or make sure to continue what I did well. He's funny, shows interesting clips in class, reads interesting articles, and is a very smart m
Great teacher. He is very interesting and smart, however he is a difficult grader. I learned a lot from his class and I now love philosophy.
Loved him. He is difficult, but is also an absolute GENIUS. The most philosophical person I have EVER met, to the point that he's almost not functional. He's pretty much great.
The man is a genius. Very hard teacher, but every Andover student should take at least one of his classes.
If you get on his bad side, there is no going back. You won't get more than a 2+ regardless of the work you do. He's interesting, but not very nice.
P&P was one of the best courses I have ever taken. Mr. Hodgson is a genius
P&P is the worst course i've ever taken. sounded like a good idea before i took it, but once you're in it, you will realize it's the most pompous, bombastic ridiculousness you can imagine.
In your papers just repeat back to him what he said in class and you'll be fine
He is a great guy. Didn't get the best grades in his class, but he should be honored for being such a good teacher.
Very cool guy. Not an easy teacher, but you WILL get good grades if you put in the effort to write papers with reasonable and well-thought-out arguments.
P & P = Best class ever. He's a decent teacher. Sophisticated sense of humor
It wasn't until after graduating, I realized what a great teacher Tom Hodgson is. He's one of the best available at Andover and is not recognized nearly enough
mr. hodgeson is a funny guy... hes a nice person and knows his philosophy.
Proof and persuasion has helped me a lot. Its a challenge, but one you can handle, and he teaches you stuff you can use outside of the classroom, great teacher
Very smart, and knows his stuff. People who gave him one's or two's just got bad grades in his classes.
grades papers based on the extent to which you agree with him and regurgitate what he's already said in class
Mr. Hodgson is a COMPLETELY arbitrary grader and is soooooooooo unclear about things. I like him outside of the classroom, but I think he is a really bad teacher. I have avoided taking classes taught by him.
very smart, very hard... good guy--- great at squash
You will have a love hate relationship with him- which is good. YOu hate him because he pushes you when you dont want to be pushed, and you love him when you get there. Existentialism was the most compelling course i took at Andover
Thinks he's Plato reincarnated but he's not. If you don't agree w/ his radical views, your grade WILL suffer. Extremely arrogant and full of himself. Has u read some good books. Hard grader. Needs to learn to control his saliva output. Talk about dogmatic
I love Mr. Hodgson but I think he is somewhat full of himself and likes to hear himself talk. You can ask him how his weekend went and he'll give you his autobiography. But if you can get past that he is one cool guy.
Mr. Hodgson has changed my outlook on life. His class is difficult but he himself is dedicated and likes to see his students succeed in his class.
I love this guy. he changed the way I think about the world.
likes to hear himself talk more than he likes to listen. but at least what he is talking about it more interesting than other classes. not bad.
he seems to know what he's talking about, or at least thinks he does. doesn't leave much room for questioning. classes are really interesting, but he needs to get over the soup.
Is a great guy. He knows more about philosophy and ethic than a lot of people could ever hope to know. Granted, he does use big words. But that's the name of the game. Has a clear conception of what should be taught and how it should be taught.Recommended
Funny guy. Good teacher. Tends to answer 5 second questions with 20 minute answers. Uses lots of big words.
Hodgson, although a difficult teacher, is good for intellect. When you leave his class, he will have either sharpened your mind or bloodied it.
