Tiffany Kocan is one of the shining examples of the public education system. I'm not saying she isn't without fault (she certainly has faults in both content delivery as well as evaluation) but you overlook faults when you look back on your year and how far you've progressed. If you do your work, not only will you succeed but, spoiler alert, THE CLASS BECOMES INTERESTING. What a shocking revelation. Sarcasm aside, I would define Kocan as "An experience that you NEED before college".
Honestly this class was a joke. She never followed through with anything she said she was going to do and I feel like I could've taken the AP exam without this course and gotten the same score. Now that she has another teacher teaching the same course she is going to have to step up her game. Very opinionated and enjoys talking about herself.
Mrs. Kocan is the best teacher I have ever had. She is so knowledgeable and taught me more than any English teacher I've ever had. I love how she has such an open mind about writing and never puts a limit on how long an essay should be. She taught me so many valuable life lessons aside from English too. She makes it clear students are worth more than a test score and to never compare yourself to others. Her class is engaging and unique, and I love the way she approaches learning.
Though I'm currently only a quarter through my second year with Mrs. Kocan, I have already learned to many things. The best part about her teaching style is her approach to education as an opportunity to better students minds rather than a test score.
Mrs. Kocan is an interesting teacher, yes she is opinionated, but students are free to voice their own opinion as well. Former students will say they are intimidated by her, but you really shouldn't be, just do the work and you will do fine. I got an A in the class and a 5 on the AP exam, and for those of you wondering about the grading system, you usually get around 100 points in a quarter and much of this is structured similar to a college course, after all this is AP English.
Sometimes good sometimes bad. Her AP class is waaay to hard. I would rather do 100000000000000000000000 math problems that write one of her essays.
BTW she does not have 7 degrees
Unlike any other teacher I've ever had. In the beginning of the year her methods were confusing and frustrating. Though the year I learned why she taught the way she does. It's because she cares more about what you soak in intelectually than your letter gade, which is radical, but as well genius. I've never learned more in one class.
Som people like her but she has been mean and uncaring towards me for no apparent reason.
Her World Myth class was the easiest I've ever taken but I've heard her English class is significantly harder. That being said i appreciate that she's not afraid to give a politically incorrect opinion
her class was hard to do well in because there was so little points. i understand her logic behind her point system but i found it a little annoying. but shes a great teacher and i enjoyed hearing what she had to say every day :) she had a lot of opinions which i loved when she shared but she made it seem like ours were wrong. overall i had fun in her class and learned a lot. shes a good person :)
I liked her, but I never felt like I had any control over my grade in her class. She's the only teacher I've had who tells you that your opinions are wrong.
I think she really understands me as a person as well as a student. I also like how she will explain things over and over until you understand it completely. A lot of her analogies work really well too. It's a different way of thinking about things and I can relate to them a lot which helps me to learn.
She is a tough teacher, but if you do the work, you will get an A. She is really cool, and understands us kids.
She really forces you to think about your life. She is a good teacher, eventhough her point system is a little odd.
Had her for World Mythology. A cool teacher, but I think she hated me.
Mean! Waste of my 2nd high school year. Did not learn anything and could not wait to get out of that class.
Kocan was one of the best teachers I've had so far.. she may be tough but she knows what she's talking about and I miss her. You take her life lessons with you
I wish people would stop complaining... she knows what she's talking about... one of the best teachers I've ever had and has influenced me in so many ways
Kocan is entirely too opinionated and judgmental. It seems like she is trying way too hard to be one of us. I hated Honors eng 10.
Respect her and she will become one of your favorite teachers. Her teaching style is different, but once you get used to it and the work load, you learn a lot.
she is a good teacher, i wish i could have her for my 11th and 12th grade year too. take World Myth. she is a really good teacher there. keeps it interesting.
World Myth rules. Don't get on her bad side unless u want to be devoured by the powers of the underworld.
Good person, not a good conveyer of knowledge. Spent most of my 10th grade year trying to get a coherent grade sheet. don't expect to get anything back.
She is a really great teacher, one of the best, and she really taught me a lot and kept the classroom a positive and fun environment!
She respects students and wants their respect from them. She definately helped me with my writing from those logs no matter how much i hated them.
She def knows what she is doing. I think people often misunderstand her and the reason of why she does things the way she does.
