He asks questions and expects a certain answer from you even if it is an open ended question. If ur not a native speaker or speak chinese pretty well, its hard.
Great Teacher OVERALL! Makes me very sad and gives me anxiety! He is a great guy in all but like u know :)
Ok. He gives the vaguest questions ever, like ever. For instance, "What classes do you have in the morning?". Well, morning can be defined in numerous ways. Another example, "How is the weather?". Well, the whether can be varying to different people. But nope. There are specific answers that he is looking for but doesn't bother to share. Also, during class, he goes on a complete tangent and will not even bother to teach. Even as a native speaker, I find his questions very open ended.
I don't know what are you guys all crying about. He was so easy and I got straight A's in his classes from 3-4 to 7-8.
Class of 2000 here reporting, gl, kids.
Does not explain work and picks on certain students
Doesnt really teach much in class yet expects you to know everything in the book. Movies every month in chinese with english subtitles. Horrible grading system on tests.
If you're a native speaker, this is basically a free class for you, as he mainly talks of off-topic subjects (not teaching), and speaks in fluent Mandarin with you for answers. Tests are mostly computer, with some writing; both of them aren't too hard.
If you're NOT a native speaker, like me in this case, it's pretty meh. Tests are harder for you, as he doesn't teach at all and expects that you know it for the test. If you really stink at Mandarin, he's gonna pick on you, and its pretty sad.
He makes you follow directions very clearly to the exact period. example, you forget to change the font -10%, you forgot to put your name -10%, you forgot to indent a paragraph -10%. plus he doesn't teach, and you have to learn everything by yourself. 1 word. study and remember everything. i mean remember everything and if you're a 6th period good for you. ask the previous periods for help on tests and quizzes. just take the class for the hell of it. yolo.
To begin with, I started out in his Mandarin 1/2 class with no knowledge of Chinese whatsoever.
Positives. He is eager to teach those who need help. Also, he knows a lot about Chinese. He does not force you to learn simplified or traditional, and he respects your decision.
Negatives. He is extremely biased, strict, and will think he is always right. When he is in a bad mood, you will know it.
Conclusion. Take his class if you like Chinese, but you might leave after Mandarin 3/4. I'm in AP.
I can't believe this teacher still teaches here. He should've retired a long time ago. - Class of '96
DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS unless u want to fail a class. His grading system is dumb, everything is dumb. If you are fluent in mandarin congrats easy A
I just really hate his attitude, he's really strict on grading and really bipolar. He isn't afraid to yell at you in front of the whole class.
Good teacher, but a total jerk. Everyone is scared to ask for help because he expects you to know the material right away. He'll humiliate you in class. He embarrassed people about their bad eyesight and bad Chinese literacy to make a point.
DO NOT TAKE HIM, ask any student in school, hes famous...
brings out the best and worst in people; favors his AP class
great teacher if you pay attention in class, and if the words isnt on the test tell him, study more for his tests, tends to pick on people in class, be on his good side and your good!!
I hate his class. He's mean , strict, and boring.. He makes people feel bad sometimes.. anyways... yea. Nightmare in there .. shrugs.
Is super mean, i thougth ppl were exagerating when they said he was mean, but i was proved wrong! he's only nice to you in the beginning but then he shows this true colors, not exaggerating!
He always thinks he is right and everyone else is wrong; in this way he lower people's self-esteem. Love the movies he show in class. Guess he's a real fan of Ang Lee.
he's only hard if you don't try and if you don't do good its only cuz you don't put in the extra effort to ASK for help. i wasn't too fond of him either in 9th grade but now i think he's a pretty good teacher. he's getting more laid back and the classes are fairly easy to get a decent grade in as long as you don't give up
He is too mean. The only way to past his classes is luck.
His strictness helps the students to have a better potential in learning. Those of you that got punished for chewing games - you deserve it!
LOL, he's one of the easiest teachers I have. But he's not very clear with his instructions and thus make it very hard for the students.
very not kool!!! failed me! such a bad teacher! really unclear about what he wants! he brags too much!
