Señora Whitten was honestly one of the best teachers I've had at TJ so far. She was my Spanish teacher in my first year here and her class was definitely challenging. I didn't end up with the best of grades, but I learned A LOT more than I'd ever have expected to. Señora Whitten prepared me not only for the rest of Spanish, but also for TJ in general. I've become a much more organized, hardworking student thanks to her, and couldn't thank her enough. I hope her retirement is going great!
Great teacher, we learned a lot! She's pretty hard though, but she bumps up your grade at the end of the year. I started the next year of Spanish and its been REALLY easy compared to students of other teachers. However, she retired.
She's a fantastic teacher. In the long run, I really did learn a lot... but here's the deal, she is the devil. All Spanish teachers except Mateo and Poe are crazy and evil. Ok... that may be exaggerating a little, but she is crazy. In truth, all she wants is for you to be successful, but she thinks that the level of spanish we should be learning is the syntax equivalent of talking like Alfred, the butler from Batman. Get on her good side early and pay attention. You'll get through it.
She genuinely wants you to be successful and do well but heavily favors the stick over the carrot. very nice at the beginning and end (after the NSE) of the year and during 8th period but the rest of the time she just bullies kids. thats exactly what it is, bullying. one time she made 4 kids cry in the same day. the verbal abuse she dishes out is uncalled for. Bottom line: SWITCH OUT, take russian if you have to
No teacher is worth crying over and the ones who are DON'T make you cry.Just do your very best and you will succeed.
The atmosphere of her classroom is not one that encourages learning. She knows Spanish really well, and can teach, but most of her students can't learn because of the sick way she runs things. She inspires fear as a way to encourage studying, but it terrifies kids who are susceptible to her intimidation. She is vindictive, unforgiving, and just plain mean. Yes, people study more in her class and d
doesn't let you get away with ANYTHING, really strict, will make you feel horrible if you do something wrong. they say she teaches you a lot but thats just because you're too scared to go to class without studying a bunch
EVERYONE IS JUST JEALOUS OF YOUR SKILLS SENORA WHITTEN. NO ONE KNOWS THE MIRACLES YOU PERFORM DAILY IN YOUR CLASS.
Extremely demanding- she expects perfection. She has no patience and will be very rude if you make a mistake during oral checks. However, many of the mistakes students make come from them feeling nervous or intimidated. Always be engaged in class and participate; study, put in the effort, and be as charming as possible, and you can get on her good side. Her tests are easy if you prepare well/pract
Wow she is hard. but she is also very caring about her students, if you put in a legitimate amount of effort she will see and will respect that. However she is a little harsh if people make mistakes. VERY harsh on people who arent very good at spanish. But no matter how good you are at spanish, you will learn a LOT. I think she is a wonderful teacher for being able to teach so much.
Strict. Intimidating. Not very forgiving. Plays favorites. Wears leggings when angry. Blows up from time to time if you do poorly. However, she is also a fantastic teacher and explains everything super clearly. If you want to learn Spanish, she will teach you Spanish. Just get on her good side and you will be so pleased with the results.
She is definitely a strict teacher but you will learn so much from her. She makes you work very hard to earn your grade but in the end I know that I've learned more Spanish than I could have imagined. I can see how she can be especially scary for people taking spanish because they *have* to, but if you are really willing to learn the language, she is the perfect teacher. If you need help she is MU
tough class, she kind of picks on the people who arent as good at spanish to answer questions, but if you apply yourself and study its not too bad. tests are hard because she makes them, but if u study hard enough they arent too bad
Whitten is an incredible teacher, but her students are most often motivated by fear, not by an interest or motivation to learn. I think you're lucky if you get her, because you'll end up really good at Spanish, but be prepared to be beaten down for every mistake you make. Out of class she's extremely friendly and helpful, so take advantage of that.
once you get used to her style, the class won't be that bad.. plays favorites though, and your grade basically goes down the drain if you mess up on her oral checks
-She makes kids cry -She picks favorites more than any teacher I've ever had -She loves intimidation
shes tough, mean, scary, volatile, and can even make you cry. But there is no doubt that she is a very good teacher.
She's a very good teacher overall, and she will love you if you are good at Spanish. She does tend to yell at people who don't know Spanish, though. She also doesn't like students who just take Spanish because they need langauge credits; she really wants her students to like Spanish.
She's not lying when she says she cares about her students. She really does care! I had her for AP and it wasn't a walk in the park, but I felt really good taking the exam and am confident in my Spanish skills. Basically: GREAT for if you actually like Spanish, but probably your worst nightmare if you're just taking Spanish because you have to.
completely volatile, makes students cry in class and shows no sympathy ("they only hit until you cry" does not apply), makes you feel uncomfortable to be around her. fairly okay at teaching but she scares students so much that it doesn't matter. random organization quizzes and random oral quizzes are ways for her to embarrass students. she does not relent.
Good overall teacher. She is borderline abusive to kids who don't know their Spanish, but she is fair in her expectations. Tests in Spanish 3 are consistent and you know what to expect, so they are really easy after taking one or two. You will learn a lot in her class.
I was scared of her at the beginning of the year and didn't like her at all (her class is so much work... don't take it if you have lots of other APs) but she is the best Spanish teacher at TJ by far. She teaches really well and you'll be glad you had her by the time APs come. Only disadvantage is that she grades harshly and yells if you get stuff wrong.
Terrifying and intimidating at times, but you will appreciate her at the end of the year. I learned a lot from her class. She appreciates people who put their best effort into the class. Pay attention and study a lot. She's super nice when tutoring.
She scared me more than anything. People actually had nightmares about her. Stay focused and really keep up. Force yourself to learn quickly and DO EXTRA CREDIT BUT DONT MESS IT UP! she likes videos for extra credit. be funny also (in spanish of course). dont speak english, at all. *shivers* you learn more than other classes but thats just cuz you're scared to death.
Senora Whitten by all means is a good teacher, I learned so much in Spanish 2 I'm tempted to try it out outside of school. HOWEVER she may be one of the meanest teachers I have ever had. She never gave out grade print outs so we'd be surprised when we have like a D or something, she always puts kids on the spot and if they get the answer wrong she yells and embarasses them. Kids even cried.
She's a really strict, but good teacher. First quarter was difficult because everyone had to get used to her style. Always be alert in class and study! She can be intimidating at times, she's a nice person. Never tune out! Her tests are pretty easy, except her for her oral tests. She is really helpful one to one. She gets the job done. My Spanish has improved A LOT this year.
whitten is a 'good' teacher, but I spent the year nauseous before each class- embarrasses kids to teach. A nice person outside of class. Helps you to switch out of her class if u don't want her again.
She might be tough, but you'll be ready for next year.
she's really not that bad at all.....if you do the homework (which is like one worksheet/night) and actually understand spanish, you're going to have an A
I learned a lot, but her style of teaching made me a nervous wreck. Also sometimes jumps to conclusions about the question you're asking sometimes and doesn't let you finish asking the question.
strict, hard, good teacher. you learn the stuff. she knows if you're not listening to her. picks favorites. i thought she was a great teacher.
Her style of teaching: to embarrass you until you learn it and are prepared in class. She would be a very caring friend, but if you slack off you'll have a hard time. Look ahead in exercises.
Used 2 HATEher 2,but sheturned out to be one of the most caring teachers I have met.Has no sympathy if u dont do work, and also has her angry days, but otherwise ull learn a lot and be glad u have her
I used to HATEher, because she was so strict. Now that Ive putin the work(she expects alot)I actually strted 2 rly like her.Although she yells, its her way of saying that she cares, and trust me she cares
Randomly calls on people. This is very annoying and if you are doing particularly badly that day, it is horrible to know she is waiting for you to get it wrong.
Mrs. Whitten is challenging to some, but read and you'll be fine. Participating in class helps boost understanding for quizzes though sometimes embarrasing. Go to 8th period for good quiz test prep.
Watch out! If you get on her bad side you are insanely screwed (trust me I know...). She's really tempermental and tends to be grouchy. Yeah, she calls on people randomly but you'll get used to it.
Mrs. Whitten is the best spanish Teahcer at TJ, she's so helpful and really good at teaching new material. As long as you put in a little bit of work, you'll be fine. Spanish 2 my favorite class.
I made the mistake on getting on her bad side the VERY first day of school. Not a good idea. I would highly suggest paying attention during class, and asking as MANY questions as you can. If you're one of her unfavorites (like me) get ready for a hard time. If you're a good student (you go to TJ, right?!) you should be able to do fine. Some advice, never have eye-contact and instead just read the material you are currently working on. Avoiding eye-contact does wonders for not getting called.
If you are new to her class, do well early. You will soon become one of her favorites, which can really help you when you don't feel like paying attention in her class. If she does pick on you, don't worry, it happens to just about everybody.
Very Tough. Work hard and you will do well...and if you don't she will pick on you...it's very funny if it's not happening to you.
she doesn't wait for you to raise your hand, she just calls on a random person - she's a wonderful teacher esp. if you're trying to avoid sleeping in class. please note that she will fuss at you in front of the class if you don't know an answer; this bothers some people. pushes you to do your best, doesn't like slackers.
Her class is very intense but you learn a lot. Her 5 point pop oral grammar checks force you to always keep up with the material and help boost your grade too. You are tested on the same grammatical stuff multiple times too which helps you really learn it. Also, my grade in her class was actually higher than any other spanish class because the grades are a little more balanced (ex. 40 pt quizes and 50 pt PALS rather than 20 pt quizzes 100 pt PALS) and she offers extra credit.
She butchers Spanish and if you're not her favorite, watch out. She goes way too fast and drones on thru the book.
Sra Whitten has a tendency to pick on whoever isn't paying 100% attention that day...but she's definitely the teacher you want for Spanish 2
nice teacher if you do your homework and stuff. teaches you a lot, but the class can get quite boring. one of the hardest spanish teachers.
Picks on students, especially the few who arent good at spanish. She doesnt cut students much slack, can be intimidating. Does know what shes doing though
She can be a very good teacher, but she does way too much bookwork, so I spent most of her class staring at the clock. She can also be unreasonably difficult.
Good teacher, got worst spanish grade (B+) in spanish 3, but worth it, i guess
I feel BAD for her un-favorites. Her Spanish 3 is way boring- it might just be that i had her spanish 2 also. Spanish 3 is relatively much harder.
I have Becker this year... BIG difference. Notice that when Sra. Whitten asks a question, everyone tries to answer... never happens now. and Aerobics was great!
I'm finding her class to be tough, but that may just be me. She's a great teacher, just hard.
No too hard, just put the time in and you'll be fine. Had her last year, she is one of the best Spanish teachers at TJ. Aerobics!
Just follow her instructions down to the last letter, study, and you'll be fine. Had her for Spanish II last year -- not one of her favs, but did great anyway.
ayayay! ella es dificilisima... if that is proper spanish... good teacher, but she definatly has a few.. un-favorites in every class that she ruins the life of
she's tough but it's really worth it. she's a great teacher and she makes time to give extra help where needed.
Once you get used to the tests, this class becomes fun. You will learn spanish here, even some culture. The hard assignment was the Country thing at the end.
you learn a ton but shes not very patient if youre stupid and shes fairly hard
some grading is hard, but have her help u study... get her to do aerobics too
Great spanish teacher, can be somewhat hard, especially tests, but I've learned a lot. She's a REALLY good spanish teacher.
Competent, straightforward. Is fair but will help students.
sra whitten is the best spanish 3 teacher there is, hands down. awesome person
