He is very smart and an all around nice teacher, but he doesn't explain the information in a way the students can understand. I recommend going to reynosa for ANY questions you have, don't hesitate to. His study groups help only because you can collaborate with other classmates. People in my class teach me more than he does.

I took honors chemistry with this teacher, and let me say, I HATE him, more than I can express in this writing. He doesn't teach, but relies on you teaching yourself to pass his incredibly hard tests. If you take his class prepare to have no free time and learn everything online (since the textbook is also unhelpful). Overall my least favorite teacher ever.

He hands out papers with no explanation and hardly teaches. Expects the students to learn from one another but no one knows anything, so everyone is hopeless. Not helpful.

He is a really bad teacher, he can't explain and his grading is bad. Don't get me or anyone wrong he is really smart but he just doesn't know how to teach others. When you ask for help he gets off topic and doesn't answer your questions.

I feel like I need to defend Mr. Maxwell here. First of all, Mr. Maxwell is EXTREMELY knowledgeable when it comes to chemistry (and the weather, which he is very interested in), and his class WILL teach you chemistry. It is vital that you research topics that are not clear and do the assignments (correctly!) to pass his class, because sometimes his lectures alone will not be clear. I got an A in his Chemistry class and feel well prepared in my university chem class that I'm in now.

Mr. Maxwell is probably one of the most discussed teachers in VHS. Many students from previous years have said that he is a downright terrible teacher and that is, I gotta say, true. However that does not mean that he's stupid. He is really intelligent but the problem is that he can't teach his knowledge to his students.
His first semester finals is pretty easy but the second semester finals is pain in the rear end. I ended up doing well in his class mostly due to me looking at my txtbk...

Like some have said below, he is just too smart for a lot of his students. He clearly is very, very intelligent and knows his field well, and I think that is what makes it so difficult for him to teach. I had him last year and although myself and the majority of my classmates struggled, he was always very eager to help if you approached him, and I felt that he was pretty fair with his grading. Bottom line though, he's a nice guy, but just not a great teacher.

To be frank, he's just too smart for most of his students. He speaks in a very advanced fashion and puts a huge amount of responsibility on the student for looking up and studying the topics themselve

An okay teacher, not the best but he is pretty good. A lot of people just say he can't teach because his class is pretty hard.

Smart guy, bad teacher. I easily scored into honors chem but was recommended by the counselors not to take the class because he just can't teach.

He's is so fun, awesome, and crazy smart, but he assumes you're just as smart as he is, so he assumes you already know the material. That's what makes him a bad teacher. (Awesme guy, bad teacher)

Haha...I totally agree with the post below. I'm taking chem in college now and it's amazing how much easier everything is to understand now that I have a good teacher.

Genius at Chemistry, not at teaching. Should have gotten masters in teaching, not chemistry. awesome outside of the classroom.
