Collo is a great teacher. His tests are indeed tough, but if you put effort into studying the materials and listen in class, you can do well in it. Biology is not and SHOULD NOT be an easy class. It should not be just another class that we expect to pass while still sleeping through lectures. Collo took his job as a teacher, and he did it well. Tough on us, but in the end, it pays off. Why all the bad ratings for this teacher, then? Mr. Collo isn’t paid to baby us. He’s paid to teach us.
One of the worst teacher. You need to study yourself or outside not to fail the AP test.
he's pretty funny and knows his stuff. it's not an easy class, but you have to expect that when you're taking APs. can be a bit vague sometimes, but he makes up for it by being interesting.
had him a few years ago, he kept things everything interesting
idk what ppl are saying. The class is manageable if you actually just glance at the textbook. You can't expect him to tell u everything.
Mr. Collo is a pretty good teacher that DOES teach if you actually pay attention in class. I agree that some days we don't do anything in particular. But what you should do with those days is STUDY. If you review the material he teaches in the book and ask questions about anything confusing, an A in his class shouldn't be too hard. As for his sarcasm that everyone keeps mentioning, it's not to the extent of which other people have been exaggerating it to be. His class is pretty straightforward.
Honestly, the main thing is that Mr. Collo loves playing favorites, and if you're not one of them, good luck. You'll have to study and basically memorize the whole textbook before tests. Mr. Collo's an okay guy, he has some annoying quirks. loves talking about himself and whatever he's doing in his life at the moment. The most annoying thing about him is his biting sarcasm and how sometimes he seems to do anything in his power to not answer your question.
E. Wish he would actually teach lessons instead of assigning various projects THAT HE DOESN'T EVEN BOTHER TO GRADE. Also did i mention he had favorites? If he hates you, consider yourself dead, and you will not have one chance of ap bio.GOOD LUCK
Horrible teacher. Communicates solely through sarcasm so one has no clue to what he is actually trying to say. Incredibly lazy, only graded 1/3 of our assignments/tests. One time, he gave us random grades on project because he was too lazy to grad
To students who will be taking ap bio in fall 2014: take this class outside of school because he does not teach you.
Collo has the unique ability to intimidate and confuse even the most competent students. He prioritizes 1. his ego, 2. golf team 3. anything but teaching. No syllabus, false test dates, sporadic grading, faulty teaching materials. The worst.
wonder if there's an option for zero stars? but yeah hes a really terrible teacher. super slow pacing. infinite "successful me" bio telling.
Worst. Class. Ever. Worst. Teacher. Ever. I'm in regular bio, but he gives us AP components of their exams for ours. We had a worksheet that my friend in AP had and thought was too hard. Plays favorites. DOES NOT TEACH. He's barely ever even there. First quarter he was there maybe two weeks total. Quizzes and tests are based on stuff he doesn't teach or that's for AP. He's extremely arrogant. By far the hardest bio class. I wish I could switch out.
Something wrong with this guy. He "teaches" off slideshows that he gets off the internet and the test is NEVER on the stuff he "teaches." Tip to pass his class: sleep in class, ignore everything he says, and just read the textbook. He plays favorites. Also tells a bunch of stories that are extremely far-fetched and I would be very impressed if half those stories are actually true.
Mr. Collo....AKA THE COOLEST TEACHER AT OUR SCHOOL! He is the favorite of many. He is genuinely concerned about the students and knows the right amount to push you individually so you will be successful. We love you Mr. Collo!! You da bomb!
His class regular bio class isn't all that hard, but his AP bio class is one of the hardest classes in the school. He is very, VERY egotistical and it is impossible to understand his instructions. I don't know if he wants to be hard to understand or if he is simply disorganized. Don't get on his bad side.
mr, collo is an awesome teacher at san marino high school. he teaches a lot of things at bio, and he is funny at the class.
This review is not about his class but about him. His class is VERY hard and you will have to try hard but thats the point. But him as a person.......bleh. He's cocky TO THE MAX. Thinks seniors should stay on last day for finals because he's so bomb...? ALWAYS tells stories about his days in Harvard summer camp or how all his friends think he's a super genius and how he's being a teacher because its his hearts desire....yeah right. Took me two days to figure out what kinda person he is:ARROGANT
i took AP bio last year and i can honestly say it was my least favorite class all throughout high school. his tests are extremely hard and he only lectures everyday. he never interacts with students and he plays favorites. i definitly wasnt one of his favorite students nor his best students and he made me feel like crap. i did not enjoy his class at all. the only fun part where i really felt like we were interact was during the cat dissections...but that was at the end of the year WHICH SUCKED
I sleep in his class (like a lot of people lol) during lectures, but still got an A. How to pass his class: 1. Read through the textbook. Absolutely essential. I hate doing it but the info for the tests are all in the book, The answers are sometimes hidden away in little paragraphs, but they are there. 2. Do the Labs and the math in the labs. Big chunk of grade. 3. Do your homework. All based on textbook. 4. Read through the textbook. The lectures are basically the textbook. Read the textbook.
I love Mr. Collo! He's a great teacher. His AP Bio class is challenging, but that's the point of AP. If you keep up with notes and ask questions you'll be fine.
He speeds through his lectures...no time to write everything down......horrible at explaining......sometimes gives wrong information and is completely unrelated to the textbook material
very hard... hope there s more chance to catch up besides tests...
his class is really hard. you need to keep on track for homework or you will get really behind (ap bio class). I think he is a really nice teacher. I love his stories. Just make sure to speak up more in his class and to participate.
I took his ap bio class, and it truly prepared me well for other ap classes later on. His way of teaching and methods of punishments, such as the quizzes that someone mentioned, can be harsh sometimes but they are very effective. He has a very sarcastic way of looking at things, but he cares for his students and puts in a lot of time and effort for them.
One of my favorite teacher in school life. His class is hard but really help for college. You just really need to try to talk to him.
Though only a high school biology class for freshmen and sophmores, his class based like a college prep class. He lectures for the majority of the time and labs here and there. I personally think his class was hard, due to his assumption of everyone being able to understand from the start. But I also liked it for his teaching method for this is what we'll all face later on in college. I never saw unfairness, only playful teasing.
likes to play favorites. extremely biased, extremely unfair to those he dislikes. carries on grudges from previous years. will not hesitate to accuse people he dislikes of cheating, will not listen to reason
Needs to stop favoring -- curves grades of those he likes. He puts AP bio materials in biology.
Plays favorites and ONLY lectures. Very hard class unless you push youself.
His tests and quizzes are pretty hard. Sometimes uses quizzes as punishment. Not an easy A. He likes people who try, and has contempt for those who cheat. Lectures are boring, so its hard to learn.
He's funny, but often picks favorites. He is also a cynic, and has temper issues. One time, people were working very slowly and he ended up yelling at everybody and accusing them of cheating.
He favors girls a lot. Not really dedicated to teaching, spends a lot more time trying to make students laugh or telling unbelievably fake stories from his youth. Study hard on your own and suck up.
He plays favorites or has some level of bias against students he thinks are not hardworking. Frequently includes humor in his lectures or a story outside of the textbook. Limited teaching, be sure to study on your own.
Mr. Collo is a great teacher, but on his lectures, he tends to go fast.
Collo's a great teacher. He'll help if you need it, talk if you ask, and helps you learn. If you can't deal with his tests, then you're obviously not working hard enough.
Collo is a pretty good teacher. He tends be a cynic, but overall its for the better. His tests are pretty hard. You just have to listen to his lectures and read the book and hw.
haha collo is awesome, but his course is very hard and requires a lot of work, and plus.. he coaches golf. and im in golf. which makes him even cooler
Collo's pretty awesome. he teaches pretty well and has a cool grade curve. i only hate his rests/quizes
Mr. Collo is good because he grades by how much one studies, rather than how much they know. THis way, PPL who go tutoring don't get the benefits! :)
you just need to study, if you don't u dont do well. if you do, things are good. so don't say he's hard if u didn't study. cuz its ur stupidity thats making it hard
he's cool and everything but is FREAKN hard. he smiles and it scares you sometimes. he needs to be less hard.
collo's test are kinda hard, you have to actually read the book instead of just listening to his lectures
You know, I didn't really find him all that hard. If you do the work and ask him to clarify anything you don't get, his class can be really easy. It's just that people don't bother to ask him for help, inspite of the fact that he's very approchable.
Collo is a great teacher that will want you to improve. Labs are fun and tests are basically straight out of hw and classwork, thats if you are willing to study
well, with collo, what I really liked about his clas was that he expected you to work on your own, everything came outa da book in chem, supa ez if u spend time
collo's cool, but tests are hard and classwork/homework doesn't help much
He has ways around the system. If you beat him in BasketBall he will give you in A no matter what. Just challenge him... But in Pretennis he is TUFF on runnin
Mr. Collo's tests are NEVER related to his lectures. He doesn't like to help his students either.
his class is ok and he's a cool guy. i like his arrogant smirk that he has on his face everyday
Collo is a pretty good teacher with an ok sense of humor
very hard test but okay at teaching...but he wont admit he's wrong
hes hard...but hes a cool guy...he doesnt teach that well though...
His tests are super hard, but they're not impossible. You just have to read the text over and over. His lectures don't really cover all the material on the test
an egomaniac who wont admit he's wrong and deals out superhard tests w/ questions that we never learned. but he teaches ok.
He teaches a little, but on tests, the questions are rarely gone over in class.
