My Mandarin 1 experience was amazing! Mrs. Mao has a unique teaching technique and I passed her class with an A. When she's not teaching, she gives us food and tells us stories from her life. She told my class that she better see all of us in her Mandarin 3 class in 2 years, and I've never been more excited to return back to her class. I love Mrs. Mao so much!!!!

I love Mrs. Mao's class! She is very through and also very passionate. TPRS works so well, and I can write and speak very fluently now. If you pay attention in class, and follow her instructions, TPRS is very easy, because she will ask so many questions on the same sentences until you know it for sure. I love to use flashcard to practice the new vocab. She is very serious about students' work, and takes time to correct every sentence, which helps me to improve my sentence structure.

Ms. Mao is one of the best teachers I've had. She really take the time to help each and every student. She took her time to help to help me especially. She has motivated me to do my work and I am also willing to complete it. She accepts even the latest work and does anything she can to help you in any way. I completely recommend this teacher 100% for a Mandarin class.

All she does is make us memorize flashcards and they barely help. Also, this TPRS thing is time consuming. She expects you to study on your own. The homework is hard because she'll grade every single sentence. If you use google translate, she'll probably call you out. She doesn't use a textbook and she assigns you workbooks online. These workbooks are like 7 pages long online and it's like due in two days. She expects too much from the students.

My experience with Mao has been horrible so far. Her new teaching with TPRS does not help at all. She thinks that repeating the same sentences over and over again in Chinese will help us learn, but it doesn't. One time we had a test where we had to look up a person and ask question about them, which she only gave us FIVE MINUTES for. We did not have any knowledge about the person we had to look up and she expects us to ask 20 questions? Oh hell no. She is a bad teacher, just skip to mandarin 4.

Ms. Mao is my favorite teacher. She has a motherly personality. She teaches great. She doesn't only teach the subject. She is the only teacher that can go off topic but still has the class listen to her because she usually talks about life tips and how we should live as person when we are out of high school. "Don't just care about grades. Grades aren't everything. Do what makes you happy." One of Ms Mao's quotes that I will probably remember.

Mrs. Mao teaches her curriculum in a revolutionary way. While other foreign language teachers encourage their students to memorize vocabulary and words, Mrs. Mao takes the time to make up mnemonics so that her students can better understand and learn the words being taught. In addition, Mrs. Mao's humor is impeccable and often tells engaging life stories that all have a common moral or theme that she emphasizes. She truly cares for her students and inspires them to do strive for their best.

I spoke zero mandarin and within one and a half years in her class, I am able to speak enough to get around. She is one of the few teachers who actually WANT you to do well and will do anything she can to help you. she has a natural gift for teaching. She also cooks really well and brings pasta, garlic bread, cookies, and a bunch of her other food. AMAZING TEACHER
