Abuse of power. Makes students uncomfortable. Talks endlessly about her son, David. Doesn't teach, uses time to talk about personal life. Expects students to know info when she does not actually teach. Grossly disorganized. Plays favorites. Picks on certain students. Is narrow minded. Hates caucasians, makes her feel "uncomfortable". Pushes her opinions on srudents. Does not grade assignments in timely manner. Makes it clear to entire class who is passing and who is failing.
Wow her ta's do all the work. She is not helpful at all. I don't recommend her for a teacher. Good luck if you get her and struggle with this subject This school needs to clean house and get a lot of new teachers.
I had Mrs. Jenkins for AP Lit, and it was a good class. I liked how most of her projects/essays came with a real-world lesson--for example, one project required us to visit a college library and another involved interviewing a government employee. Essays take her a LONG time to grade, but she gives a ton of feedback. Class discussions go off-topic a lot, especially if someone brings up a political issue. She also really cares about her students, and she notices if someone is having a bad day.
Ms. Jenkins is easily one of my most favorite teachers. She not only made me actually like literature, but also provides life advice in times of need. She's like a second mother.
One reviewer said it best: REVISE, REVISE, REVISE. How else do you learn the craft of writing? All teachers have quirks. She is an excellent teacher unless you get on her bad side... Passionate
now that i graduated, i can say ms. jenkins has some serious boundary issues with her students. they go to her house, she gossips about them, she texts them, she drives them places, she goes out with them, she takes them on trips, she gossips about other teachers and on and on. she likes to write and post crap about students and other teachers and parents anonymously and then brag about it. loser. everyone knows that ms. vaughan and ms. collins are way better than her.
I understand that some people don't like her, but I thought she was a wonderful teacher, hilarious and intelligent at the same time. (Also, guys, it's Alyssa, not Allyssa.)
Why is there all the hate for her? She is fantastic. You learn a lot, and her class is very fun.
Absolute best teacher any of my kids has had- I couldn't rate high on easy-she isn't, but she is smart, engaging and professional, and many students consider her their favorite.
My absolute favorite teacher in the entire school. Great teacher, has a wonderful sense of humor, and is just downright awesome.
Tough teacher, but she has a great sense of humor. I'm never bored in that class!
as a person i love jenkinscares about how you are and what you're doing with your life, sometimes a little too much, but most teachers don't care at , she really all.
PROS: Very smart, light class atmosphere, you will learn, mentors. CONS: Plays favorites, groups projects, can be self-centered, stress affects her very negatively. I'd say you should go for the class
Okay, so she has a big ego, but she's still one of the better teachers at TN. My writing got a lot better in her classes and the Mentor-Mentee thing helped more than anything else in HS
A bunch of homework and reading, nice to go off topic, but I'd rather discuss questions I didn't get.
People seem to dislike her, but she's a very reasonable, opinionated person. Never any busywork, and her projects are geared on being fun/informative. Classroom restrictions are very far between.
As a former student, I can say that she makes you a better writer. But when you want to learn, she doesn't teach. All she does is rant the entire day and you eventually learn nothing.
she is one of those teachers where you either love her or hate hate, no in between. the good thing is she never makes you do "busy work" you do the important stuff.
You will be a better writter when she is done with you. She is hard though...
She grades essays hard, but helps you become a better writer. you dont do a lot of work in class just pretty much have long discussions about random stuff.
This teacher rubbed me the wrong way because she had a bad attitude. She thought she was better than everyone else.
