Mrs. Olivares doesn't know how to teach. She reads off her board and presents information to the class like she rehearsed it the morning of. My friends and I think that she doesn't elaborate on what she teaches and expects us to know the background information of a concept. Also, she introduces new topics and tests us on them the next class period. She doesn't give us time to have them clarified or explain the topic.
Being a senior who is now about to graduate, I have definitely found that Mrs. O is one of the greatest, if not the very greatest, teacher at NHS. She is knowledgeable, funny, helpful, and you can really tell that she genuinely cares about each and every one of her student's education. She is amazing and if you get her, consider yourself lucky.
Have her for HIS2. Worked really hard and got all of my Noreen done and she misplaced them and will not give me credit. She doesn't explain things to me when I ask her questions. Her losing my papers is a very big deal. Especially as I need them so that I can study for the test but now I do not have a large amount of them! I personally have had a very bad experience with her and would not reccomend her.
I had Mrs. Olivares back in 2002. I complained a lot because the tests seemed unfair. Now, as a grown man graduating medical school, who formerly went to Berkeley Law School and dropped out (wasn't feelin' it =/) I can say that both Angie and John are committed to training the next generation of professionals of all fields. The only regret I had was not taking AP Environmental Science, since the MD/MPH program deals a lot with environment exposure, a topic I wish I was exposed to earlier (NPI).
[AP Enviro] Mrs. Olivares was one of my most enjoyable teachers from my junior year. She always has a friendly face on and is willing to answer any question we may have. She never gets angry or agitated and makes sure we understand what she's teaching. Often times she also joins our conversations and makes the class overall very relaxed. She prepared us very well for the AP exam and funnily enough spends the weeks after the exam letting us watch movies :-)
Great AP enviro teacher. The notes she gives us were very helpful. However, the daily quizzes were extremely difficult and often involved a small detail from textbook reading from the night before. Tests are very difficult but usually contained information from the class notes. Her tests definitely prepare you for the AP exam.
Lets you talk and socialize with friends during class. She actually takes part in our bantering sometimes. She's very good at teaching HIS2, although there are more notes and handouts then we would like. Her tests are straight-foward and easy to ace. Extra credit is like 3 or 4 percent boost and class isn't all that hard. You'll have fun in this class.
She teaches likes she's in an elementary school or middle school. Her tests are super hard, though. Her class is boring and full of memorization. (ap enviro)
Very easy-going and breaks down difficult concepts so that they are easy to understand. Her notes are very clear and easy to study from. Also gives a lot of extra credit to sophomores for recycling.
she's an okay teacher. gives a lot of extra credit. tests are easy, if you study and get the concepts. treats us like kids and talks about her daughter at least once every class, but she means well.
Biased, condescending, talks about her daughter way too much and made science a total bore. I don't think I learned a single thing in HIS2. She is easy for AP Enviro, though.
not very exciting class; okay personality; treats us like kids - but other than that she's a good teacher. i loved learning about the human body. doesn't understand students' questions.
she is really hard, but her classes are never boring
UGH. VERY BIAS. she hated me. i'm not gonna take AP enviro for sure. not a hard class since she treats you like 3rd graders. I DON'T LIKE HER VERY MUCH THOUGH.
Teaches like you're in kindergarten, tests like you're in college.
Um..okay...second day of science, we had a review test...which we weren't ready for. And I think she's so boring
Strict on deadlines, very tolerant(of me, i wasn't exactly her favorite) smart, a bit too bias(passionate?) but generally open minded
Great person, opposite of Mr. Olivares though, haha. More strict, but great!
um... all i know is that she is really hard. and sometimes doens' explain things
She's so nice! I love this class. She really cares about her students.
boring class, i got through it ok though, str8forward in most areas
Dedicated teacher and great person--truly cares about students at NHS!
