am i crazy for preferring slavin to ramirez? though slavin may have favorites, she doesn't make it painfully obvious like ramirez. yes she's boring but at least she gets thru the material and doesn't stop for goofy kids (and then goof off with them)her tests were fair
She's not the best when it comes to language teachers. She likes to go by the book and has a closed mind about different answers (aside from the book's). She cares the most about your grades on tests. If you know you don't want to be called on, make sure you impress her in the first few days with participation and then she wont call on you when you do raise your hand.
Oof. She's a nice enough woman, and she's isn't exactly a bad teacher. Her problem is that she isn't very engaging. I am in learning her class, but I really have to keep myself from daydreaming or even sleeping in order to do so. When she speaks Spanish, her voice is a good octave higher, and much softer, than when she speaks English. Her grading system is also a bit weird. She's nice and seems fair for the most part, but isn't the most lively teacher.
I had her 2 years in a row ( this is my second year), and she's not a bad teacher, though my friends have had teachers who are much more easy going. Her quizes are for the most part, easy, and you can almost always expect to write a composition on a test. Her lessons can be boring, but she makes the material easy to understand.
I have never taken spanish before Ms. Slavin and she makes the class so easy that it scares me. She also likes to talk extremely soft and is very, very deaf. The tests are weirdly set up, so you have to study.
Classes can get boring, but she teaches you what you need to know, which is more than you can ask of other teachers. I like her a lot and she is really sweet when it comes to e.g. oral Regents.
Ms. Slavin is a really nice person, and pretty helpful also. I wish she taught as much as the other Spanish teachers, because we learned so little this year (10th), and we have the Regents coming up.
I hate this woman with all my heart, I really do. So boring, her voice easily lulls people to sleep. Told several parents at parent teacher conferences that their child was at the bottom of the class, but she never actually goes over the material, she just gives you a ton of homework. When I asked her what I could do to improve my grade, she just said "study more." I'm so glad this is my last year of Spanish.
eh, not bad. a bit boring and hard to understand b/c of her voice sometimes but not the worst
As long as you study well for the tests and quizzes you'll be fine...and also ALWAYS do the homework even if you think she won't look at it. Also gives a lot of quizzes.
i do learn a lot in miss slavin's class. she does however pick favorites and you need to make sure that she likes you a lot to secure your grade.
I love Ms. Slavin! She knows what she's talking about and is willing to go a little off-topic. For once IN MY LIFE, I found myself doing well in Spanish. Just sit at the front of the room and you'll love her. Plus, she doesn't pick favorites, witch is GREAT
While Ms. Slavin's class can be a bit tedious, as she usually teaches from the textbook, it makes studying easy and you should do well on her tests. I think that a lot of the tedium is due to the fact that she has a small voice, and usually speaks quietly. Make sure to pay attention in class, and if you don't understand something (which may happen if you're not that good at Spanish), ask her afterward. Oh, and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be exactly on time - don't be even one minute late, she hates that.
Horribly easy but VERY mean. Her voice will put you to sleep. There's no doubt about it.
she never gave me any opportunity to do extra credit. her attitude towards me was generally vicsious bitterness, as though i deserved my grades. she, incorrectly, judged me as being lazy and incompetent. although i am not good at spanish i've made a much greater effort than anyone else i know to learn it-my own lack of efficiency is merely because my lack of talent in the subject. however i feel very strongly that she never gave me the oppurtunity to improve, which embitters me immensly
People who are good at Spanish (like me) find her terrible because she makes you do tons of workbook exercises and bores you beyond belief. People who are bad at Spanish hate her because she's extremely unsympathetic to problems and doesn't teach. She's nice enough if you're good at the language and her tests are fair, the only thing that's difficult about her is it's so difficult to pay attention because of that voice. SO glad to be free of her!
Ms. Slavin is an absolute AMAZING teacher! She is very warm and understanding, she actually TEACHES us Spanish (for goodness' sake), and we watch interesting videos about Spanish culture in class. Sometimes the activities get boring, I admit, but the vast majority of the time Ms. Slavin continues to rock Spanish. Don't listen to those who hate her and degrade her... they just don't realize her ability. Thanks Ms. Slavin! -7th Grader
ms. slavin is the one and only teacher i have who makes us work out of the textbook DURING class, probably because she cant come up with any more fun activities. her monotone also has the ability to send an entire class in to a stupor.
It's true that Ms. Slavin is not the most interesting woman at Hunter, but she's clear and reasonable. Occasionally makes jokes. I'm good at Spanish, but if you're not her ample review and quizzes between tests should be clear. Homework is boring and, to me, tedious, but useful review for those who need it. Teaches vosotros form as well. She went to Hunter, which is cool. It's true that there are a few students she seems to dislike.
Overall, Ms. Slavin is a GOOD teacher. Although classes are not what the general student populace expects (fun, interactive), she teaches us Spanish VERY well and thouroughly explains everything. =D
Well...she's not THAT boring. But this may as well be a 'siesta' class rather than anything else. Incessant workbook/txtbook assignments are annoying.
to give you an idea of how incredibly boring ms. slavin's class is, i have absolutely no distinct memories of anything that she said for the whole year i had her. you'll be well-prepared if you have her as a teacher, but i can guarantee that you won't enjoy it.
shes very strict and soooo boringgggg.. i mean shes probably a good person but too much hw and just ugh
ms. slavin is soporific (look it up). if you get her, transfer.
shes very boring and picks on individual students. ALWAYS assigns hw...not a good teacher
good teacher...incredibly BORING!! she makes the same hw every night. not mean though....just montonous
Not a bad teacher, but really boring. Grades harshly.
speaks too fast and likes to pick on you especially if you don't know the answer.
You gotta feel sorry for her, but...just...ew. Absolutely inhumane punishment. She only calls on you when you don't have your hand up. Fortunately the class is easy. Do your homework and you're okay.
If you get Slavin consider yourself VERY UNLUCKY. She is boring, farrrrr from entertaining and clearly is not the nicest person on earth. Her class is a NIGHTMARE!!!
so mean chooses favorites and wont call on you when you raise yur hand only when you do not know the answer. she is so boring and strict and mean
Boring but will prepare you for the Regents really well. Really nice and it's fun when we do skits. Cherish the short periods of humor in her class, it can be funny if you make it
makes sure you know the material and drones on and on. tests are easy, except for listening comprehension which she refuses to replay even though the speakers speak hi-speed
She teaches Spanish well, but doesn;t really have a sense of humor and sometimes is out for long periods of time.
ms slavin is way more serious than my other spanish teacher last year, but she teaches us stuff that they only use in spain, and then tells us we wont need it!!
too boring...talks about nonesense...but teaches spanish MUCH better than anyone else
She is a really good teacher.Everything is clear but she can be tough on you if you don't work.
omg....she goes on and on about dvd players... o, and dont forget that the ninth graders have textbook b, and we have a,but i learned though
She's very nice and competent. Only the goof offs will diss her
I like her. I think she's really nice and she teaches things well. So, she likes to drone on and on about things sometimes, we all have our faults.
She's a very fair teacher and knows what she's doing
Loves to talk about her daughter, is insanely boring. Otherwise, she's really nice and is an okay teacher.
as long as you show up to class on time and do the hw you should have no problems. tests are clear and straightforward and prep for regents is very thorough
Not the greatest teacher in the word. You can learn a few things but it's really hard to stay awake otherwise an ok class.
ms. slavin is SOO niceeee- she REALLY prepares you for the regents, and i enjoyed her class =)
She is a very good teacher. If she drones well u should be payin attention to the spanish not to her voice.shes very clear. i like her. i think im the only one:(
worst teacher ever if she can be called a teacher. drones on in a monotone voice, picks favorites, doesn't teach material, if on schedule, TRANSFER SKOOL
Evil woman. She glared @ me once because I coughed. Sorry if I was sick. She barely wants to teach us spanish ya know? More concerned with being evil.
she is a good teacher in that she presents the material in a thorough, undrstandable way. just slightly lacking in the 'interseting' department.
she drones onn.... she should talk in a more interesting way so dat WE DONT FALL ASLEEP argh
I had her over 15 years ago and she was wonderful then. Very good teacher.
