Ms. Parris is an exceptionally intelligent teacher. Although her exams and tests are difficult, she gives you plenty of opportunities to make up missed points through participation. Her class is similar to a college course because she doesn't guide you through every assignment and lecture. However her discussions are truly amazing, and she is an extremely insightful teacher. If you want more feedback for your essays go find her at lunch. She will be more than happy to guide you through it.
Every single quarter... not even semester, Ms Parris makes you participate 20 times. That alone doesn’t sound too bad... but wait. Now you have 30+ kids all wanting 20 points. That means she has to offer over 600 opportunities for participation. But does she? Nope. It gets even better when he mentions that those who participate over 20 times get extra credit. Now you need even more opportunities in order to get full credit. Opportunitie which she does not supply. This can screw up your grade(pt2
What can I say... Ms. Parris is the worst teacher I have ever had. She never explains anything she is teaching leaving me confused 100% of the time. I honestly gave up in this class the second week of school. We also do a lot of essay tests in this class which she almost never a gives A's on and even better, she never tells you what you did wrong on the essay so you know what to fix for next time. Now let's talk about her stupid participation point system which is the honest to god worst. (Pt 1)
If you're not a good writer(like me), make sure you participate in class a lot of you want an A. Mostly got B's on her essays and like two A's, she doesn't offer much commentary so it's hard to know what you did wrong, not great at helping develop your writing skills. Also, you can't really bs the assignments like in ASE or frosh English, if she doesn't think you did enough analysis or whatever is required she will mark you down, but she's really nice and good person and all. Also messy
She would disagree with my interpretations of the readings even though English is inherently subjective. Great and cheery person, but tries too hard to sound intellectual. Gave a bunch of B+'s and only one A grade to a student she tutored outside of class. Assigns essays without attempting to help develop our literary style/voice. Good with class discussion but unsure if her writing skills are best suited for kids in AP classes aiming for top colleges.
She's nice & all, but her class is very disorganized and she barely gets the grades in before her deadline. And sometimes she rambles on and I have no clue what the expectations, or even the assignments, are. It's crazy confusing. The class could be really fun if she didn't get off topic, and kept track and graded assignments. And the presentations were more difficult, they're usually group presentations where each person say 1 sentence with no real thought involved.
Mrs. Parris is my favorite English instructor and i can honestly say i enjoyed her company, The course, and the discussions we shared on various subjects like poetry, life, interpersonal relationships, and friendship. she is a very kind and compassionate woman. As far as her teaching, i always felt that if the class or myself didn't do well, it was because we didn't put enough energy into our assignment. I still think she's an exceptional teacher. -Steve Berberena
The greatest part of my knowledge in english as a language and american literature as a part of human culture originate in the jr english Ms Parris' class taken by me in 1993 -94 school year as an ex
Super easy grader while, somehow, she still manages to refine your writing and have a laugh with you to boot. can't say enough in her favor. Just be prepared for an ego check on the essays, I never
She is a fun loving teacher, but sometimes forgets to tell you the deadlines for assignments.
Knopwldge full and makes class a blast. her ways in Lit&film and JR english ROCKS!!! fun energetic and open to all. she bonds with students as friends. and doesnt pass judgement
Very kind, and had clear, high expectations for students. Helped prepare me for college. Not afraid to go above the usual "HS" topics, and challenge students. A true asset to the HS.
She was a nice person, but not the best teacher. That was probably because it was a horrible group of students. She was a hard grader, but she didn't really explain things well. Not the best, but ok.
Good, but she likes to boast her knowledge around a lot. It can get annoying and sometimes she is unclear. Meaningful and genuine, though.
She is the most unique and awesome teachers I've ever had. She makes the world a better place through her teaching, her genuine concern for the students and the world. AP English will change your life
she nice and all, but what is with all those weird posters in her room?
Ms. Parris really is an amazing teacher. She's incredibly helpful, and and has a great sense of humor.
take every class you can get your hands on, esp film classes!
Actually takes the time to get to know you and your interests. Best of the best at CVHS.
AP English would never be the same without her. Besides knowing almost everything about English, she's hilarious and has excellent taste in movies.
MS PARRRIS SERIOUSLY ONE OF THE HUGEST ASSETs TO CVHS SHES SUCH AN AMAZING TEACHER, SHES HARD BUT AT THE SAME TIME NICE THATS A HARD COMBINATION TO FIND
AP: I read books that were useful later in college, felt like I improved in my writing and mostly enjoyed her class. I still remember how she was very happy with her circles. :) The journals weren't fun though.
Understanding & funny, but sometimes I have no clue what she expects from me.
the best teacher I ever had and she can draw a mean circle. Hi Ms. Parris miss u
I've never had her, but I know her. She is an incredible person!
Although I didn't work hard for her, she is the best and coolest ever Thanks!
