Mr. Valentin's class is enjoyable since he includes a lot of different activities. He's a very chill and funny teacher. Extremely knowledgable and passionate about history. However, his lessons were a bit unclear at times and he'd get off topic often. To pass the finals, you'd have to study from the textbooks yourself. His pop quizzes and midterm are what makes up most of your grade so watch out for that. Be sure to participate and give him a good impression. Overall, I would recommend him.
I had Mr. Valentin for global and, in my opinion, he is an okay teacher. He teaches very well but never uses the textbook, as he skips many chapters. As long as you self study you should be prepared the finals but make sure to pay extra attention to chapters he never discussed in class. Watch out for his pop quizzes too as they are based on classwork and videos.
He never uses the textbook, which is a high disadvantage when you're taking the final. His quizzes are based on what he said in class, and if you miss ONE thing, you automatically get at most an 80 on his quizzes (either 5 or 10 questions, yikes!). Gives too little time on tests and too technology dependent. He's very knowledgeable though and engaging, so his class is very fun. He gives extra credit, but you have to get lucky--if he doesn't call on you, no extra credit!
Best freshmen global teacher besides Dunkel. Probably even better with technology than I am. Teaches the info pretty well and the class is fun. Does a lot of videos, crosswords, and maps. Tests are not too bad, but quizzes are brutal. Prepares you well for the final. You can get good grades if you do what you're supposed to do. For reference I got ~97.
Very fun teacher, understands what he teaches... unlike some people
I had him for my Freshman year last year. It is a shame he doesn't teach Sophomores! Best teacher ever, very helpful, and is EXTREMELY knowledgeable. He gives a lot of classwork projects, but his homework is mad easy. He is extremely chill, so feel free to ask anything in class. He makes the day relaxing, a great break from other stressful classes.
Get on this guy's good side. The only way to do that is do your homework (infrequent but long when I had him), show that you know a lot of history, and be a good test taker. He's funny and you learn things through fun ways like completing surprisingly difficult crosswords. There's extra credit offered but it's difficult to get. Technology hates me so I hated the fact that he used so much technological stuff like Dropbox. I really liked this class. Don't expect an easy or medium 100
He is a little bit strict with his notebook checks and being late to class, but he is a very knowledgable and entertaining guy. His lessons are fun and he makes us laugh and have a good time. Make sure to pay attention in class! Pop Quizzes
He's very funny and he tells history like a story, which is how I like learning about history because it IS a story. His projects are funny and his anecdotes as well. He's available on Twitter and his website is very helpful. He allows the use of iPads in his class.
tests aren't too hard but the quizzes are just INSANE
he loves giving pop quizzes whenever he likes so you ALWAYS have to be 100% prepared,
which is IMPOSSIBLE.
he's such a harsh grader...UGH
but he teaches pretty well
Idk what to really say, very technologically dependent and doesn't ever check homework so no one does it. Tests are a b*tch but he drops lowest. Main 2 thing I don't like about him is how unresponsive he is (hard to explain but you really can't talk to him and he makes it seem like he dislikes you when you do) and he grades you solely on tests and quizzes which are deceptive. He has like 2 favorites, and 5 people he extremely doesn't like, often for no reason
the best. Hands down. Everything for the finals he teaches. HE iS SO FUNNY TOO. and maybe a lot of work, but def. worth it. Abs. amazing.
He's a fairly nice person. His class can be pretty hard, though. Especially the tests. All his work prepared me really well for the final (I got a 92) so I ended up getting a 94 in his class. But you
he gives you the notes so you're basically set for the final. Just study the textbook for his tests (kindaa bit long). if you're failing, he will check your notebook but if not, dont worry about it
Awww, I really like Mr. Valentin. I think his notes were really good and he prepared us well for the final. The only bad thing about him was that he never collected our homework. I always did all of t
low helpful grade because you really don't need help, all in the notes and class lectures. PC lab = weekly break, most of what you need is on the notes, tests are given somewhat often so don't panic
he has the notes for us so all we have to do is print it :D
I dont want to be harsh but hes really a nice guy but kindof a lazy teacher. Just get on his good side by participating and hope to god he doesnt collect your notebook
One of the best Global teachers I ever had, just be prepared and study. ;D
Lots of homework. But you get to know the maps well. The homework gets you prepared for finals. Pop quizzes....
May seem like alotta work, but you'll do good on the final, if u actually do the work. Tests r tricky, but just study the txtbk. Interesting lessons
He knows what he's talking about, excelent teacher. The only reason people complain is 'cuz of the amount of stuff you need to print and gets mad due to lack of participation. Deserves alot of respect
i dont get why he has such a low rating. He doesn't give that much hw and he gives you everything you need to do well on his tests (which are mostly mc)
He is really funny during his lessons and makes you want to learn. Even though he gives you a lot of hw and his tests can be hard he at least prepares you for the finals.
really awesomes lessons, makes you actually WANT to learn, only complaint is his hw, and he gets scary quiet when hes mad.
Very helpful, extremely good teacher, has haters because he gives hw and makes you print a ridiculous amount of stuff. His tests are hard and tricky but fair and he knows the most about history instuy
Ummmmm.....god... you aren't going to learn anything. Your textbook is your best bet here. I screwed up by believing he'll teach us all we need to know. i was wrong.
He's alright...makes jokes at random times in class :P I don't like how he makes different versions of the midterm tho,I got the hardest one out of 3 tests o.o
He is focused too much on technology/computers. Makes you print out notes but doesn't really explain them. I didn't learn anything in his class whatsoever. One of worst teachers I had at Stuy.
He does not teach to the curriculum, but the things you learn in his class are pretty fascinating. I appreciate his unique teaching style, although he can be a little intimidating at times.
Valentin is intimidating. He is an okay teacher. He is way too technological. It's hard to know what's on his mind. Preparedness means alot. His method on teaching is talking and print out lessons.
Most of the time talks to you by not looking at you, as if he has another eye somewhere. Used to tell u to bring lesson note cause copying notes waste time, now tells u to copy notes off the board.
He's very technology intergrated and teaches what he believes should be taught. He's cool and laid back and types your notes for you. film project=50% of grade but you could do bad and get 90+ on it.
Mr. Valentin is pretty cool actually. His overuse of the computer was pretty cool. All you need to do to get a good grade is to show that you WANT to learn and you come prepared.
He overuses computers. His test are really based on the textbook, and unless its an at home computer test then they're really hard. You prob wont fall asleep in his class though.
he is one of my favorite teachers. you actually learn from his lessons and it is pretty interesting. he teaches differently and has everything set up differently, it is fresh and a nice change.
Too much on computers and tenchnology. strict sometimes with homework and classwork. He does give some fun facts and tell us random stuff.
a very hard teacher, especially the movie project. i dont even noe how to do it. he does noe wat hes doing, its just that theres too much work invovled with technology.
Well, I know a lot about the Mongols now!! He's a sweet guy, believe it or not.
great teacher, teaches like college but there is a definite difference between his class and the curriculum.
A good but not very organized teacher (to be expected when you have that many kids to teach).
I liked him, he was easy, and knows his stuff. however, is someone hacked his pc, we wouldnt have a course.
He's a nice guy. He makes us print out the lessons &the class is moslty debating. As a teacher, I have NO respect for him. He should teach us global history, not about Iraq/Bush. But I am doing very well, so I can't complain.
yay! my printer runs out of ink everyday now! My class is learning things that the others learned in the 1st week! WOOOO!
too much internet stuff havent learnd ANY global history so far hes too technological
was ok, brings up many interesting topics but focuses on some unimportant things
Was a cool teacher, until he gave us grades that didn't make any sense, meaning he just randomly dropped it from the 2nd marking period grade for no reason.
Very nice guy. May come off as hard or mean, but give him a chance. Devoted to the MLA format, he will ask you to buy the handbook. Academically, learned ALOT from this teacher.
Mr. Valentin is not a good teacher. He should focus more on history and facts instead of the stupid MLA book and whatever he thinks is important.
Probably the best social studies teacher in the school. Puts in a tremendous amount of effort and expects a lot from the kids. Strict but fair with grades.
Graduated five years ago. What I learned came in very handy- history and other academic areas. Kept the class loose with humor.
ugh, i really don't like him. i hate technology, lets just leave it there....
he is the freaking worst teacher on earth. he doesnt call on you when you raise your hand and end up blaming you for not participating
Fantastic teacher, funny, work is kind of hard but you learn a lot from him.
Very unfair! He gives higher grades to students who raise their hands a couple of times and says BS, than to kids who REALLY try hard.
Good teacher. Internet approach of his worked well untill i stole his site and gave out ID #'s and names. His internet tests are fun when you use other kids #
really big on comp. nd stuff .. he juz DIFFERENT from otha teacher...
Very good teacher. Long homework, tricky but easy tests.
Amazing teacher-machine. They should sell these at teacher outlets and let schools buy them. Result being millions of students dead. =D
Great teacher for H2G, but he is very cold and shows NO emotion. Grades like a machine but teaching protocol is excellent
good teacher, bad personality. long homework assignments, large projects and difficult tests. very cold person and hard to talk to.
can be hard... really into computers and stuff.. not like other teachers AT ALL... but good teacher.. hard tho
great teacher; was supposed 2 go on sabbatical but did'nt, if you take notes and study a bit you'll get good grades! Great teacher
Extremely organized, and funny. Very unconventional kind of teacher. Didnt always stick to the curriculum, which was what was good and bad about him. very smart
nice guy...but HORRIBLE hw. u gotta get the assignment online when u get home n it takes forever to do them.
He was very hard and was not lenient if you missed class when he announced a quiz and the quiz was the day you came back. He was absent a lot when I had him.
He's a great teacher too bad he's going on sabbatical in '03 - '04 he's really good w/ computers
Lectures weren't particularly coherent, but not that bad.
dude this teacher.. HARD HARD HARD Soo much hw and the test bleh killer the tests and hw quizzes practically every day
