For my first AP class, Mr. Murray was ridiculously hard. I used to be a straight A student until I took this class. He's pretty knowledgeable about world history, but he assigns a ridiculous amount of work and grades them on correction rather than completion. I wish I never took that class. We had to rush so much in the second semester just so we could cram information for the AP test. Only take the class if you're really dedicated with history.
OKAY HERE WE GO. ( I HAVE HIM FOR AP WORLD HISTORY) He is smart. He is funny. He is a very very nice guy. He teaches VERY VERY VERY WELL. His tests? IMPOSSIBLE TO GET AN A. The homework? Theres weekly packets. BUT NO MATTER HOW MANY HOURS I SPENT FINISHING ALL MY HOMEWORK.... he never even grades it. EVER. He only graded three homework packets out of the ENTIRE FIRST SEMESTER. SO I failed his class because thats all that was in my grade, besides my test scores. DONT BOTHER DOING HOMEWORK!
I LEARNED NOTHING. THE ONLY REASON WHY I GOT AN A IN HIS CLASS WAS WHEN SOMEBODY ELSE TOOK OVER HIS CLASS FOR 2nd SEMESTER. He's cool tho
Mr. Murray is the best teacher ever. He is super cool. His class is very interesting, and taught me everything I know about history. Studying is necessary, but that is to be expected. Be prepared, this is not an "easy A" class, but it is worth it. Mr. Murray has many funny stories. Mr. Murray is rad.
The only nice thing I can say about him is that he tells funny stories.
Murray is pretty chill as an AP teacher. He's very knowledgeable when it comes to world history. His teaching method may not be for everyone, but those outlines and bookwork helped me out personally and helped me gat an A both semesters. If you want to get an A though, you need to really dedicate yourself and love history. However, don't rely on him too much for the AP test......I didn't study and I passed.....but still.....I wish I studied more and not relied on him so much for the AP test...
DO NOT TAKE WHAP IF YOU VALUE YOUR GPA. I worked so hard to get a B in WHAP that I got B's in other classes as well. You will not get an A. You don't understand the intensity that is WHAP until you go through it. Regardless, Murray has definitely taught me a lot about history and different ways of analyzing and thinking about things. So take the class if you must but you're not getting an A. You also won't get a 4 or higher on the AP test. Your grades in other classes will also drop. Your choice
Mr. Murray is nice, but WHAP was super hard. We didn't learn the material needed for the STAR test in time. it was rushed in at the end.He often goes off topic with stories, they are entertaining, bu they don't really help. Don't procrastinate, especially with the outlines, and study for the tests. They are super hard. Basically, don't take WHAP
I have him for WHAP and he is a great teacher. He goes over homework questions answered out of the book and explains it for us. You really have to pay attention in his class. He's not a hard teacher, just the class is hard because of all the information.
His class is extremely tough and does require a lot of work (some of which is never checked) but you get to have fun and learned. I passed the AP test with no histroy background thanks to him.
There was a lot of work in his class, but he prepares you for the AP test, even if you choose to slack off a lot. I slacked off a lot, and i actually got a 4 on the AP test
Okay, I may be a little biased because I have him for WHAP, which is honestly a horrible class and should not be available to take. But seriously, Mr. Murray is not a very good teacher. I feel like I am learning very little, and my social life is pretty much nonexistent due to the amount of work. He never offers outside help, and sometimes does not even teach anything about the questions on the test. I have been a 4.0 student all my life and am on the verge of a D in this class. Many students think they are
This class is stinkin' hard. Do your work and do it with effort. He prepares you for basically everything.
He prepares you for the AP test, and he prepares you for future AP/college classes. He gives you what you need to do, and it's your job to learn it. (which is a good thing btw)
Mr. Murray is a good teacher. Pay attention to what he says, set aside time to read the textbook, and attend AP test study meetings, and it's easy to get through any of the tests. The outlines and workload can be hard to find time for, but homework is part of the class, and the homework packets are a large part of the grade. I found the material was easy as long as I was attentive, and Mr. Murray very knowledgeable and helpful. He's a pretty cool guy, and history isn't boring unless you choose that attitude
Very hard tests. Outlines will take up to 5 hours. SUper difficult class BUT benmurray is awesome and makes the class fun with his funny stories from his crazy college days or just random stuff.
I felt he could have prepared me better for the AP test. Then again, I never was very strong in history. We did waste some valuable time in that class, but when we lost time for Murray's stories, we always enjoyed them. Expect a lot of work and very difficult tests.
I agree that Mr. Murray definately knows what he's talking about, but my biggest problem is the way he teaches it. Sure it will definately help us for the AP test, but i am struggling with his practically-learn-it-yourself-I'll-just-tell-you-the-answer teaching method. His work load is painful and you have to struggle through it. His stories are funny and entertaining but he tends to stray off in the other direction. As a teacher he's not very good, as a water polo coach or person he's a great guy.
yeah, he has a way of taking something completely boring and making it interesting. It's a hard class (WHAP, anyway), but it's fun, too.
He was a really good teacher and made history a bit more interesting. loved the class, loved the stories, tests are pretty hard but if you do the homework you're fine.
Real Funny Guy, gives some people funny nicknames. makes boring history fun.
I have mixed feelings about his teaching. On one hand, he was lazy, his lectures were tangential, and he gave us a test at the end of the year consisting of 30 questions with the answers as "B." On the other hand, he made it interesting, the tangents got your attention and gave you a break from the cold, hard history, and he really did get us ready for the AP test at the end of the year.
I had him for regular World History, and I must say this man knows his stuff. I not only learned through the year but with some of the connections he made and the stories he told my love for history was rekindled. The fact that he gives water to those who put up a mandatory donation of 50 cents to the girls water polo team is nice too.
awesome stories, great teacher. AP is a little hard, but what do you expect? as long as you do your homework well, you can pull of a high B or lowish A
Murry is lazy, and a bit unorganized. But he really knows his history and gives intresting lectures.
a cool guy. lets u turn in hw late occasionally. tells good stories. teachingwise he's a little lazy. doesn't grade finals (but they are good practice so don't slack off on them), skims your outlines (this can be a good thing), and only grades a couple hw questions. lectures can get very boring. it's more important to read the chapter than listen in class. test questions focuz on nitpicky details. if u want to pass the AP test u must do outside work. his class alone will not prepare u.
Whoever thinks World History AP is a hard class has obviously never taken any other AP classes before. WHAP is one of the easier AP classes offered at ST and Murray does a great job of making it as fun as possible.
a good-hearted, laid-back person. however, the workload is ridiculous, and he is a tad disorganized. murray plays favorites, but it's subtle. he does not have a set system to how he grades homework papers, so sometimes it results in inconsistencies. he also likes to go off tangents during lectures. overall, though, a nice person and a fair/good teacher.
You know what. Even though World History AP is the hardest class I have ever taken... Mr Murray was a fun and exciting teacher. There is seriously never a dull moment. He has a blast making his students laugh, sweat over outlines, and pray for a passing grade on the AP test. But on the inside he is one of my favorite teachers
Murray is AWESOME...His AP world history class is hard, but what can you except its a "College Class". His test are hard, however they will prepare you for the AP test (ITS MUCH EASIER). Murray never yells just talks softer making you stop talking : ) He is really nice, understanding, has awesome stories, and the man is just AMAZINGLY SMART...he is not one of those teachers that doesn't know what he is talking about. AWESOME TEACHER and runs a GREAT class!!!!!!
Hard class, lots of work, Mr Murray is a hard teacher but his class is fun
There is sooo much homework and he doesn't really teach you anything, just gives you work.
well murray was awesome. he is a great guy, however, he gives a lot of work. keep in mind though, even though there are a lot of work, murray gives it for a reason. it pays off soon. he has a nice personality and he is hilarious!
I am so glad I do not have this class anymore! Yes, Murray is a good guy, but he is an absolutely AWEFUL teacher. He just gives questions for you to do that he will explain to you, but not very clearly. He never really TEACHES anything, yet he expects you to understand everything! And he gives SO MUCH busy work! And don't even get me started on his grading system! It is completely BOGUS! He makes you do SO much work, then he will only chose a few questions to grade, so if you did not get the WHOLE of
i loved murray!! he was a lot of work and his room was dark and boring but his class made me laugh soo much. If you take AP the class will be a big pain but after the AP test the class becomes a joke.
MuR-RAY!!! One of the most awsome AP teachers EVA!!! swear... Murray is now like a subject... Murray hw.. Murray tests... Murriness!! just kewl, but tough...
AP class is horribly difficult with too much homework and will deprive you of any/all sleep. In-class lectures/videos are nearly useless until April.
OMG- i was in that rm today for the SAT... very serene and nice, just like murray
mr. murray is cool, but expect most of the learning to be done on your end. he'll give you about half of the info, its your job to know it and learn the rest
BEN!!!! great water polo coach! i miss the team and all of our jokes! ~mint
He isnt as bad as most think, but he needs to make more connections between dif civilizations. He yells at people if he doesnt like em. (plays favs)
He's not a bad teacher. Most people are just lazy in the class. To be successful in his class, you have to want to learn about history.
had him the first year he taught AP, so it was pretty easy. i slept thru most the lectures but still got a 5 so its all good
He's a great guy and I love him, there were always a few good stories to get us off topic with, (Mono Monica) but I didn't learn as much as I would've liked.
bens the best water polo coach!!!! he is and he is a lot of fun!!! i luv ya benny!
Murray is great. He presents you with the material and tells you the funny details about history. It's like a real college course if you're in AP.-Randi
