I'm a passionate student of history and I love learning it, but she is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. She mindlessly expects a clean and organized notebook which is good practice I guess, but where is the instruction! She mindlessly has her students copy off her long powerpoints, and homework is quite long for a regular course freshman year. She needs to spend less time talking about her daughters and more time teaching. She has a lot of knowledge, just can't teach.
Her grade is totally based on how much she likes you and her assignments make absolutely no sense. Tests are extremely specific. If you participate and say exactly what she wants to hear, then she'll like you.
Although Ms. Garcia loves history and is very knowledgeable in world history, she cannot teach. I can count on my hand the number of classes that has actually been helpful. The only time I would ever learn is by outlining the textbook. She assigned this for homework almost daily. Despite her inability to teach, she is actually a very sweet person if you get to know her and genuinely loves history. However, her class is all self study and in class lecture is usually useless.
She's probably not the best teacher for AP World. Her homework assignments are long. She teaches most of the time, but she never seems to finish the lesson because she goes off on tangents. She doesn't prepare you well for the exam, so buy a review book. Her feedback on essays are okay, but she doesn't do a good job of helping students write good essays. She tries to accomplish too many things at once and it usually ends in failure. Other than that, she's a very knowledgeable teacher.
garcia is an extremely nice person if you get to know her. she is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about history, and it's almost admirable. but, the students often don't share her enthusiasm, and she doesn't "transfer" that feeling towards her students well. many students end up feeling bored with an excited teacher ranting about history in front of the classroom. anyways, she's nice, knowledgeable, enthusiastic but does not convey the information to everyone
She's a good teacher, but she consistently violates the school homework policy by assigning homework in the middle of a break or well after the school day ends.
I have to give props to her for knowing a lot about what she's teaching, but her teaching style isn't the best. She seldom finishes her presentations and most of her lessons consist of us watching a 40-min. documentary (and having to finish it for homework). She makes us print her presentations, although the slides don't really have important information. Homework is bearable, but she's very tedious when it comes to checking them. ALSO, her tests are hard. Study from textbook.
Junior year and I still have nighmares. I think she personally despised me or something. I never cut, never slept in class, did all the homework, and an ok test average and she gave me a 75.
i had her for freshman global last year. She is a very knowledgeable teacher, but a lot of her class is self study, because her tests are really hard and she often doesn't have time to finish teaching the lesson. She has an attitude and definitely has favorites.
Ms. Garcia last year for APWH was overall good. I felt the homework assignments were most likely the most productive part of the class (cornell notes really helped). Her tests were difficult, and you won't finish but they were similar in difficulty to the AP Exam. However, I felt a lot of the time she spent talking in class was just useless information, and the same with her powerpoints. If you do ALL of her extra credit, and follow along in an AP Review book you will be fine.
Ms.Garcia has favorites (those who participate a lot during her class). She spends most of her class talking about irrelevant topics. The only way you learn from her class is through the textbook. Her powerpoints are useless and don't provide info. Spends time in class "teaching" stuff you learn from the textbook the night before. You don't learn in her class. Period. She might be better than other teachers only if you listen to her talk when she has slides up.
Strict, but is a really good teacher!
I can tell that Garcia knows her stuff, but she's a terrible teacher. All she ever does is talk about her family, and sadly that's the most interesting part of her lessons. She talks while scrolling through images on a powerpoint and expects you to know everything in the textbook. She also assigns like one hour documentaries for homework the night before (as if we don't have 5 other classes to worry about) and gets extremely passive aggressive when no one remembers details the next day.
Mr Garcia spends the first 15 mins of every class telling a useless story either about her family or about some random trip. then she goes very slowly through a ppoint presentation for the rest of the class. we didnt finish a single presentation the entire year. her tests are ridiculous and she curves them all. shes unnecessarily harsh on the short answer section of her tests. also, she has a small curve for the end of the year, but only if u participate consistently
Get ready to know about every detail of her life because that's all she talks about. She gives notes and slides but they're more visual representations (so pay attention in class!) . She curves a lot though which is why I like her and she's pretty kind (but you HAVE to do your homework or she will lash out). Her tests are crazy hard but her final is pretty lenient. She sometimes gives homework quizzes so do well on your homework or you'll do pretty bad. Her projects boost your grade a lot.
Honestly, I think she gives a lot of work. All the handouts are basically based from the textbooks, and you would probably end off better if you carefully read the textbook. Her tests are also difficult, especially the short response, because she would find every little mistake and deduct points. This applies to the HW as well. You have to write a lot, otherwise she give you a 4. It is useless to write 2 pages for 2 questions, if you understand the main and key concepts. Prepare to get < 90 avg.
idk why ppl dont like her. shes actually pretty good and you do well as long as you study, plus she actually gives notes and teaches
Really passionate and I think you guys are derailing against her too much. She's a great person and those tests are really hard but at least she helps you study by doing DBQs and handing out a bunch of handouts.
Guys shes not that bad. Her tests aren't as hard as you guys think, most people just don't study and blame it on her. I actually liked her class alot.
I don't know why everybody is saying she is bad teacher. Only reason why people are complaining about her class is because everybody applied her class so they can write WORLD HISTORY AP on their transcript. She is diligent about her work and she actually teaches the subject as if it is a "college course". Of course, her class would be hard! Everybody is dosing off because she actually teaches something about history.. No ones does work, that's the problem. If you are diligent, she is excellent.
Not the best teacher, but sweet and nice. She really tries with her work, but just doesn't have everything it takes. Homeworks are just from a workbook and shows too many primary sources and videos. G
She is so sweet, and nice. She cannot teach that good, but she looks like she's trying. She's tough, but if you survive her, you can survive anything. homeworks are too long, however.
history is my favorite subject and it has been for years. she has effectively ruined it for me. straight A 's in the subject for years even at stuy, and in AP world suddenly under an 85. difficult tes
horrible! doesnt explain material well. assigns all the major learning for homework and class is more of a supplement. OFTEN is unorganized with lessons, and shows too many documents and videos while
Bad Teacher, not good at teaching at all, just gives out powerpoints and skips each frame after 2 seconds.
Many times, her tests aren't clear. Also, she often forgets or is unable to update her homework page.
Over excessive amount of notecards needed for homework She doesn't like grading them, we dont like doing them. In class, she shows us tons of documents that is basically summarized from the textbook.
As hard as her class may seem to be, she'll get you that 5. Sure you'll get worked to death, but if you manage to keep up with the work you'll definitely get a 5 on the AP.
Most of the burden is on me for not paying attention to her monotonous lecturing. Shows videos too often and sometimes doesn't even bother to go over the worksheet she hands out prior to the videos.
A little on the strict side...a little = a lot actually. Very hard tests, but good grader. My test average was like a 78 and I got 92. If you participate a lot, that's a good portion of your grade. Ma
LOTS of homework and tests, but doesn't really make sure you know the material. Little or no handouts are a pain in the rectum.
she's tough with tests, but she cares about her kids. just ask and you'll definitely get help
Way too much hw, horrible teaching style, super-hard tests. Horrible teacher.
she's hard. but i studied soooo much for her tests and it payed off. others were getting 70s-80s. and i was getting 95 everytime. her hws are REALLLY LONG. and she gives insanely boring lectures.
she's tough, but she definitely knows what she's talking about. She also cares about her kids if you show her you're actually interested in history. If you're doing it just for the grade, good luck.
if have ms.garcia for ap not a chance u'll fail the exam. she tough, but will get all the facts into your head. shes a fair teacher and really nice.
she's a tough cookie. but you learn a lot if you do all your homework.
She's very nice, and a great teacher. She's very tough with tests however, so you must always pay attention and takes notes.
pretty hard. i study at least 3 hrs every night before a test. doesn't curve, at all. participate! projects are hard. okay/hard grader. funny and nice, and she teaches well. mad hard though.
She knows what she's teaching; by far, one of the best teachers I ever had. All my friends failed her tests though. Lol.
Her tests are ridiculously hard, and some questions focus on unusual, irrelevant tiny details.
Ms. Garcia is a really great teacher. She may be tougher than other teachers, but she really cares about you, is funny, and makes class interesting! She's dedicated and WANTS to help. She's AWESOME!
tough exams, but if you do what she tells you to (her hws are REALLY good to study off of if you do them). can get upset easily. shes not that bad, but everyone whines about her. i had fun in her clas
Stutters WAY too much. Very hard tests. And it is not because I don't study, because I use most of my time studying for her class.
shes a great teacher, she really can teach, i feel really smart compared to the other classes because i know that we learn more than them. shes really cool, she cares aobut your questions and answers all your emails
She became better after she made her tests easier. Class average became 87 after that. decent
I left comments about her saying that she was unfair but after the final grades I take them back. She boosted me up after the regents/project and I actually did learn a lot from the class. She really has a passion for history
hard tests with a lot of material. participate 2 or 3 times a class everyday, do all your homework, study really hard for regents and work hard on final project-> end up with 90 something grade
Most people's final grades are pretty decent. She's an easy grader for the final project if you choose the group presentation.
She's a nice person. She really expects you to work hard and gives you what you deserve. She boosted my scores a lot from last term.
You have to be a very good student to keep up with her expectations. Her stuttering and long ramblings make it hard to pay attention at all. She means well, though.
gives so much hw and the hardest tests. says "umm" or "uhh" 350 times a class (no exaggeration, we've counted). boring.
Although the tests are hard, she is a very nice person who tries to help the students. I enjoyed her class and if you participate you'll get a good grade. Her tests aren't the least bit easy however.
Classes can be boring and tests unreasonably hard. She tries though, and it's not like her intentions are malicious. Wouldn't be excited to have her though.
She's not bad! Hw's look hard, but are actually easy since she asks the most relevant questions. Classes are boring only if the students are. Her tests are hard but if you put in some effort you'll get a good grade.
she's hard AND boring. I really try and stay awake, but end up falling asleep. She gives long hard homeworks that she actually checks every day until the last month of the term. Her tests are ridiculously hard.
Shes really really hard, boring, and kind of snide... I also find it very hard to stay awake in her class because she can barely formulate sentences.
She isnt that good. Is very sarcastic toward the student questions. Tests are like mega hard. she expects us to memorize every iscussion we had in class. Expects us to memorize all the handouts. very boring and inarticulate
The first time I had her was in freshman year and I wasn't too pleased with how I was doing in her class, but having her a second time changed my mind. She really tries to teach.
omg i love her!!! she is a fantastic teacher and incorporates acting & active discussions into her lessons. v. leniant w/ grading and really helpful. my favorite class!!
half of class sleeps, a few dont even show up, collects almost every hw, unbelievable tests, looks top-left when speaking, however she sometimes seems like she's trying
tests are kinda tough and excessively detailed. should be ok if u memorize the textbooks and notes. but shes really nice when u go to her afterschool for help. =)
could spend less time "interpreting" plays, music, and art and actually teach some of the stuff she expects us to know for her tests
She's a pretty clear, good teacher, but her tests pay attention to some details that no one knows and are just insignificant.
oh gosh, her tests were so bad not b/c they were hard but b/c they were so ambiguous. it's like, how can you just assume that. more interpretation than knowing the info.
Does not appreciate greatness, or for that matter eccentricity. Does not understand History is diverse in its intepretation. Should read textbook, and you will be alright.
man oh man. i used to think she was hard but now i have mr bloom and i miss her a lot. at least i knew what she was teaching. she says "uhh uhhh uhhh " a lot
it's not bad once you do the hw's meticulously and hang on to every word she says in class
Terrible teacher -- gave me an unfairly low grade, gives ambiguous tests. I disliked her class immensely.
dunno why she got a bad rap, seems to be cool, good organized lesson plans, could be easier tho
Well, she's hard at times... But really, she's really nice if you go to her and ask for help.
how come the students have to be smart and the teachers don't?
