He doesn't teach you enough of the correct things for you to have a basic foundation of Chemistry. We spent a semester on rocks instead of what other chem classes are learning but were tested on chemistry. His instructions and "lectures" are always super unclear. the class is an easy A class just cause he has to curve everyone's grade by ap standards just so he doesn't fail the whole class. If you ask him a question, he talks in circles for 15 minutes and doesn't answer.

You are always going to hear people's fear about Devor, but truly, having Devor was the best experience of my life. He doesn't assign much homework and his teaching may not always be that clear because of his penmanship, but do the reading and pay close attention to what he's saying, & you'll succeed in his class. Ask him questions if you're confused and he'll do his best to help you get it fully. The only truly difficult thing is his exams but you'll get the hang of it after a few failures.

if you ask him a question he'll take at least 15 minutes trying to explain it on the board in the most complicated way ever. completely useless when trying to understand students; he has no sympathy for your grade. be sure to have a valid excuse ready if you are going to miss a test day otherwise it'll count as a 0 and he WILL NOT give you a chance to make it up. he tries his to best to make things clear but it makes things even more confusing so try communicating with your classmates for help.

One of my favorite teachers. In his class you are supposed to actually do the reading, so you understand what is happening in class. He will cover all the material in he first 10-30 minutes of class, and it makes perfect sense if you read the textbook. Then, he gives you the rest of the class to study. So many people fail his class, because they don't do the reading, they use slader for their homework, and they goof off after he finishes his lecture. Don't be one of those people.

Going into his class, I was given warnings from both students and even the counselor who signed me up. From experience, I can now confidently say that those warnings were justified. His class is not necessarily difficult. However, the fact that he neither teaches nor respects his students makes failing his class a reality. First semester, for example, about half of his physics class got a D or an F grade, and had to take a remedial online course. Avoid at all costs.

His lectures are elongated and frankly boring. You're better off just reading and studying the book rather than pay any attention to him because anything he says isn't something that's not in the book anyways. He basically just reiterates material from the book, but impressively makes already complex things sound even more confusing. The guy knows his chemistry but the guy doesn't know his teaching. An inept teacher with difficult exams and zero regard for his students' learning.

I think Mr. Devor is a reasonable teacher. To the person that made the 2/16/12 comment about the test, you have everything you need to do the W=Fd problem. Use the sine function because of a horizontal force.Work (in J) = 22.9 N x sin(35) x 135 meters ~ 1694.4 J which rounds to 1.7 x 10^3 J when significant digits are taken into account. This is a perfectly reasonable physics problem. You obviously didn't take the class seriously. Don't blame the man if you can't take it unto yourself to study.

Devor is frankly a very bad teacher. He gives absolutely no partial credit on any of his tests, so if you get problem wrong due to careless mistakes(which you will since most of the problems have multiple steps) you get an automatic -10 out of 100, which is A LOT. He also will mark you off by -1 or -2 for sig figs even is you are only .1 or .2 off from his answer. You WILL get sig figs wrong because he provides the calculators which are absolute crap. If you want to pass the AP then self-study.

Howver, when he tries to transfer his knowledge to his students, he uses the most complicated words and gestures and diagrams to get his point across. Every test question is 10 points if you get the answer wrong it doesn't matter what you wrote in your work or that you have everything right until the answer, you get -10. Brian Devor is one of those teachers that you have to have an Iron Will to survive. He is the most intelligent man on that campus, and he comes from a background of EXTREME discipline. Now, that being said, its to be expected that he would want the respect he deserves from his students. A lot of people aren't willing to look past that, they just see a sadistic man who's unhelpful.
