Bruce is a cool guy. Dr.Matthews is a pretty bad history teacher. He does not have accurate facts, most of the semester is spent talking about some philosopher, and only a small part is actually spent learning about the time period and actual facts. His history class is honestly so frustrating and he is so unorganized it's really upsetting.
Dr. Matthews is a VERY knowledgeable, interesting, immersive, and fair educator. I had him for both Global History and Seminar and can honestly say that he sparked my love for reading timeless, classical texts by critically thinking about them and listening to the in-depth discussions. He guided me to write essays with more thought and feel more confident presenting to an intellectual audience (shyness = not desirable). He grades based on individual development and gets pleasure out of his job.
Dr. Matthews is both loved and despised. I've noticed that the students who aren't fond of him are those who don't enjoy that he makes them work hard. I agree sometimes his workload can be hard, but it doesn't mean it is impossible. I loved his class overall and I loved all of the extra knowledge I gained. He made me question everything around me,and I left his class with a different outlook on the world. I think that he is an amazing educator and I am so lucky to have him as my seminar teacher.
Dr.Matthews is the best professor I've had my entire BHSEC career. He is very misunderstood, but he is very intelligent will definitely make you see things differently. I like that he encourages you to have your own mind and opinion. He encourages you to make mistakes because this is the only way to learn. Everyone would be lucky to have Dr. Matthews as a professor.
This is the best teacher I have ever had! He does not only have a Ph.D. but he is also someone with a wicked sense of humor and a kind heart. If you don't have a backbone, this isn't the class for you. He is trying to get his students to use their brains!
Profoundly intelligent, often pretentious. Matthews fosters an incredible academic environment that elevates conversations and thinking. He's not the best teacher in the strict sense of the word, but his handling of in class discussion is bar-none.
He's not a bad teacher, but he picks favorites. His class is sink of swim.
He always seems very stressed out. If he says something that doesn't sound accurate, make him explain it. Usually, what he says seems confusing at first, but then later makes sense. But don't believe everything he says.
No matter how much he tries to "enlighten" people about the world, it seems like he furthers the very misunderstandings that he tries to correct. Thumbs down.
he is the best teacher at bard, he may seem narcissist, but is in fact far from it. he's an awesome teacher. his famous quote:"I will teach you nothing"
very intelligent but he is also the most pretentious and arrogant professor i have ever had.
the intellectual equivalent of "it hurts so good". he pushes the mind to its limit and he can be harsh. But any who say that he is only a pompous narcissist dont comprehend what he's trying to do.
Dr. Matthews is simply pretentious, that's it. He isn't pretentious AND anything, he's jsut pretentious.
i love his class. i'm lucky i got him for a third semester. i learned more in this class than i did in all my other classes combined
It's certainly true that he's pompous and his class is impossibly hard. But you learn so much from it that it's entirely worth it, and it's always a very interesting course.
Go to any coffeehouse. Pick out the snarkiest, most pompous, narcissist there. Add overachieving college professor. There you have Matthews.
One of the few profesors that ever taught in BHSEC. He is the epitomy of what BHSEC is attempting to achieve.
Probably the definitive BHSEC prof. Probably a little overrated, since he was dealt a good hand in terms of kids. Pretty hard, but feels retroactively good.
Dr. Matthews is pompous, overbearing and insensitive. He is however, an AMAZING,engaging and passionate teacher. Again, great educator, not nice.
I love Prof Matthews, I've never had to work so hard in my life. But it was worth it
